Journaling Helps Me Stay On Track

Yesterday the temperature was in the 90's but today it cooled off. After going to the doctor, I decided not to go home immediately but to park my car under a beautiful shade tree and do some journaling. Have any of you read the wonderful book, "Learning to Fall" by Philip Simmons? Not only did he write a book with that title but along with the book, he developed a journal that you can use to think about the fact that "falling" is a natural part of living and that we must all learn to "fall."

I spent about a half hour writing in my journal for it was less distracting than going back to my apartment where my sweet little pug would instantly ensconse himself on my lap expecting petting and discouraging me from giving attention to the journal rather than to him!!

It was a good day for I could tell my doctor was using all his wisdom to help me
move ahead in solving my medical problems. It is wonderful when doctor and patient become partners.

Yes, it was a very, very good day.

    I have always been a big journal person but my problem now is that I have TONS of them and I'm not sure my kids will want to inherit all my jibberish and I haven't taken the time to go back and read them. I did give them the ones of the year they were born. They got a laugh over the number of times I wrote " Oh Gary is so fussy today; he's driving me crazy!" I would keep one for each summer at the lake and I keep one for when we go to Florida and take any special trips. Funny...I'm not keeping a very good journal on losing weight, other than what I blog here. However, the weight is going down. I have a great Dr. too who listens to me. I've also have some that "shouldn't have gone into the medical field!" May have to check that book out. It sounds good.

    Glad you had a good day. I think keeping a journal is a great idea. Every time I've tried it I end up with empty pages.

    Well, what a pleasant, positive note to start my day!
Maybe I can carry some of that peaceful enthusiasm (is there such a thing?) on through my morning .
Tomorrow , err, today, is my three month checkup for the diabetes thing, I have not lost any more weight, and have really been worried my Dr. might just tell me to go someplace else .
Especially since I refused to purchase the last prescription he sent me in my lab. report.
I felt like he was just trying "new stuff"on me and the cost was high, so I just called and told his nurse it was too expensive, I'd just have to die
Oh, but I take flowers and cuttings to his nurses, maybe they can convince him to spare me, this time! emoticon

Coming back from the Senior diningroom tonight, I stopped by the laundry room to get the clothes out of the dryer. In my cart was a bag of chicken, left-over from a too large piece on my plate. I should have taken the bag out of the cart and then put my clothes in the cart but lazy me, I put the dry clean clothes on top of the bag.

Then I went to the apartment and gave Kumbo, my pug, his usual dinner. Two hours later I walked into the kitchen and found the empty bag. Obviously, Kumbo had not practiced the SparkPeople program and had let his desires get the better of him.

Anyway, I got a good laugh out of it and a blog. I haven't been blogging as I am nervous about a medical appointment ahead of me in September. I'm still Sparking though as don't want my anziety to throw me off the program.

Daughter's dog SCOOTER did the same thing today with our kitchen garbage can. I was scraping dishes from a chicken dinner and the phone rang. Left the can out while I went to answer the phone. Sure enough, Scooter was ransacking the can!
Just hope he didn't get any bones in the process!

    Aren't they precious? Marley is part lab and part wolverine; totally fixated on food.

A Hitch in my Plans

In a previous blog I said August would be a great month. Well, I still feel that way because I learned a lot by having to spend three days in the local hospital.
After a cat acan I found out that there is no cancer so hallelujah. Why do I still feel August is going to be great? It is because of all I learned such as:

nurses and all those who work in hospitals are tremendous people, caring,
compassionate and so capable.

friends and family are there for you when you have a need.

I can always get back on my Spark People program and I will.

August Is Going To Be A Great Month

I'm riding the crest of a wave of optimism which makes this a good time to set
my goals for August.

1. I will go to the Strength and Stability exercise class every Tuesday and Thursday.

2 I will walk the dog at least once during the week. I'm lucky my pug gets walked by others twice a day so he is an honorary member of SparkPeople.

3. I will use my yoga DVD at least once during the week.

4. I will track my food every day and check my teams every day offering encouragment to someone on each team or at least I will huddle with each team.

5. I will listen to my meditation CD as I seek peace and tranquility.

6. I will journal at least once during the week especially remembering my gratitude for all the good things in my life.

Like Magic

My computer wouldn't print out My Daily Nutritional Feedback and one of the lovely workers in my retirement home tried to help me but I think the problem was beyond her. I decided to hire on the internet a tech expert recommended by Hewlett Packard and when he responded to my concern, it was so simple, it seemed like magic!

Now I can at least keep my commitment to record my food each day and save my nutritional feedback so I keep on track. Now if I could only be as good about my exercising, Maybe I need a technical expert in that department like one in my mind!!

    Isn't technology wonderful! That is when it is working right! For a few days I wasn't receiving any E Mails from Sparks People on my Yahoo.

Checking with Sparks didn't help. I never got through to Yahoo. Miraculously, the problem fixed itself and now I am getting E Mails again. Go Figure!

    We are so glad you got your computer help when you needed it! I REALLY enjoy posting my nutrition and Fitness minutes. I think without these tools to MOTIVATE me I wouldn't be doing as well as I am. We can really appreciate SPARK's service. Keep up the great work! Pat
