Mid-Year Update and Where I've Gone Horribly Wrong!

Wednesday, July 10, 2013

So for anyone that know me, I work out like a fiend. I work out ALMOST every day. I did my first competitive 10k in February and my 1st and 2nd half marathons in March and in May of this year...I did them all at around 265lbs!!! Don't say it can't be done, because it can as long as you train.

But here's my issue this year...it's July 10th and i'm right around what i weighed in at on January 1st. On January 1st i weighed in at 272.4lbs...all this fitness and no weight loss! Makes me mad...but only mad at myself. While i've been on point with my fitness, i've ignored my nutrition. Sure i still eat fruits and veggies...but the pizza, burgers, ice cream and all of that have also been part of my diet. THAT is why i'm not losing weight. I've been neglecting what 80% of this entire journey is all about. If i don't control what i place into my body, my body will be out of control. I've lived 36yrs with an out of control body. I need to stop. All i'm doing is slowly killing myself by eating this way.

It's so hard and frustrating because i can easily look at my blogs and see that i've said this quite a few times this year...BUT i need this...i can't stop. I need to fix my path and go off road to one that works for me.

I've decided to compare my fitness over the last 6 months. I'm only counting miles, crunches and squats. I do a lot more than this, but for this purpose this is all i'm looking at.

1st quarter: January - March
walked/ran 287.433 miles
Biked 123.03 miles
Crunched 7440 reps
Squatted 4435 reps

2nd quarter: April - June
walked/ran 223.41 miles
crunched 4910 reps
squatted 1500 reps

Even in my fitness i've slowed down.

I've noticed something else too. I'm ALWAYS tired! I wasn't like this when i was attentive to both my fitness and my nutrition. I'm tired of being tired! I need food to fuel my body...not food to stuff my body!

So i need a plan...obviously the last few plans i've tried have failed because i did not follow them. So here goes...

EAT within calorie range. This does not mean eat a pizza and whatever i have left in calories choose foods that fit into my day. This means choose healthy, satisfying, body fueling meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks!

DRINK my water. I also noticed i'm back to 3 diet soda's a day. Knock off the soda! I need to stop drinking my calories away.

SWEAT hard! When i go after it, i need to go after it hard. My life DOES depend on it!

This is my mid-year picture. It was taken on July 4th. I will take back this last half of the year!

I fell into the same trap for a long time. It took me FOREVER to realize that I can exercise a lot every day of the week, but if I don't stay within my calorie range, I will not lose weight. Kind of obvious, isn't it, but it took me so long to believe!
The fact that you are sick and tired of where you are and are writing about it might mean that you are really gonna do it this time. I've stopped and started many times, but I think every new start brings new energy and really does move us closer to our goals. Wishing you good luck with that journey!

It's kind of a controversial topic, but I think you really might benefit from looking into the 5:2 or "Fast" Diet. I've been doing it for about 8 weeks now and I would recommend it in your case. Not only would the calorie deficit on your fast days potentially allow you to start seeing losses on the scale, but I feel like fasting has helped cut WAY bock on my cravings for unhealthy food. The cravings aren't gone altogether, but they are definitely much less.

You can lose weight without exercise but you can't lose weight with exercise only and continue to eat what you want / like.

I wanted to mention this to you many times but I was afraid of hurting your feelings. I see this a lot here on SparkPeople. Members working out hard but still not watching what they eat and wondering what the problem is.

I'm glad you've got a plan now! emoticon

Great plan! I now how hard it is in the beginning but it definitely gets easier the more you do it. Soon your body doesn't even crave that yucky stuff. It wants the veggies and fruits and water. So just keep pushing yourself and telling yourself how this will get easier. And always remember you are doing amazing things for your body and your insides that you can't see but is definitely there.

You are aware of your pitfalls and have a plan in place.
Remember to vary your workouts to prevent a plateau and acquire the taste again for nutritious choices. This is what helped me to move away from overindulging in the junk food.

Here we go again...

Monday, June 24, 2013

I've been on vacation for almost 2 weeks and what do i have to sho wfor it? A LARGE weight gain. It's not all water and i know it because over the last two months i've been creeping back up on my scale. I deserve the gain because i know i've eaten badly. My fitness has been great, but it's 80% about what i eat and it's been crapola.

SO i'm strating again today...

WI 275.8lbs

Here's me now...

Vicky, a setback is not failure -- just get back to your plan (you DO have a plan, right?) and work it! We're never going to be perfect, we can only do our best at any given time. As long as we keep trying we haven't given up, and if we haven't given up then

Hang in there!

I gained 10 pounds on vacation recently. It's almost off now, but I understand how frustrating it can be. All you can do is go back to doing what works for you and don't beat yourself up. It will come off again.

Zumba Time!

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

I forgot just how much i enjoy Zumba. I've added it back into my fitness routine. I own the DVDs...i have two left feet - there's no way i'd do a class right now! But i do enjoy it and i forgot how much it makes me sweat and burn calories.

This was just after 16 minutes of Zumba last night...

This was not ALL that i did...but this is what i ended with...i started out with about 80 minutes of strength training. I just wanted a little bit of cardio to end my day. So i did three songs.

I completely sympathize with your not wanting to attend an actual class. I have Zumba for my Wii and I won't even let my husband be on the same floor of the house with me when I do it!
