9/13 BLC20: Pink Vikings Day 2

Thursday, September 13, 2012

Let's talk about my goals!
A Spark friend commented that my goals may be too much. That I may want to reduce them since i'm already 12 days into the month and no where near the mid-point of achieving the goals i've set out for myself. I get it. She got it. I would have to double and on some days even triple what i've been doing. She was concerned and i appreciate it. BUT, i won't change my goals and here's why.

I won't change my goals JUST because it could be looked at as unachievable. If i set goals for myself and then change them mid way through because i slacked off and would have to work harder to achieve them...well, how is that any different then say having a menu planned for the entire day just to end up out at lunch with friends for pizza? Do i say, "screw it! I've already failed so let me slack off and make it easier on myself." NO! I say ok, i've messed up a bit so now i need to get back on target. SAME for my goals. I may not reach them, but no way in hell i'll change them just because i messed up a bit.

If we start changing goals mid way through how will I ever learn discipline? OH, and my 100 miles in a month is VERY doable. If you've read my blogs you will see i've done it before - for each of the last few months actually. Just because something SEEMS unachievable for someone else, does NOT mean it's unachievable for me.

Let's look at it another way. If a kid says to their parent that they want to be a doctor one day, yet the parent thinks it's unachievable - does the parent so no, sorry you can't do it because there's no way you are smart or determined enough? God i hope not! The parent should say, GREAT! But that means a lot of hard work for you ahead. You better stay determined.

I'm determined. I may slack off every so often - but I'll get there. AND even if i don't - at least i still reached for that goal.

Let's talk about weight loss!
I have a goal of losing 24lbs over the next 12 weeks. That's my goal and if you read a few blogs back you'll see that i wrote my SMART goal around how i'm going to lose those 24lbs. I understand that for some people that may seem like a lot in a short period of time.

Now...i've always set monthly weight loss goals for myself. MOST if not all of the time i fail to reach that goal. BUT i will always set HIGH expectations for myself. I've gotta reach for the high standards or goals. It's how i work. So let's not cast critical judgement and doubt on someone else's goals based on others capabilities.

I may not always reach my goals, and again, that's ok. I'm ok with that. But why reach for something that's easily attainable? What kind of goal is that? A goal should be something i work hard to achieve -so that i can celebrate loudly later on!

Let's talk about Halloween!
I think i've changed my mind about my halloween costume. I tried this last night...

I need red lipstick and red and brown pencil liner to fix the lips.

I need to glue and cover my eyebrows.

I need to use brown for the eyebrows versus the black.

I need lighter foundation to appear more porcelain.

I need to get pink blush for my cheeks

i will add the large face eyelashes - i just didn't want to waste them practicing

I need to make the white larger so that my eyes are a little bit bigger

I need to connect the eyeliner around my eyes

I think i really like this look. It took about 60 minutes to get this together and it's no where near what i want it to look like, But i did it based on the makeup i had on hand and i like it.

Wishing you the best of luck, as always! You have such a great attitude and I am in awe of you! I apologize if anything I said was offensive, as I never meant it to be hurtful, but only helpful. For MYSELF, I would need to revise goals.. I would rather have a bit lower goal set and then if I've already achieved it before the end, I'd make a new goal, but that is just me. Wow, and i really hope to do that. I think I set the goal of 15 lbs, though I'm usually getting 1 lb a week and if there is no plateauing or going backwards that's GREAT!..

I have learned to go slower in my weight loss.. but that nothing I DO to improve my health is wrong, even if it's a slower journey - 40 lbs down in a year is better than 20 or 10 or 0 .. if I was just sitting online ALL the time. The lifestyle changes for the long haul are for me the MOST important piece of this so that I can keep off what I do lose.

So, FYI, today with the TNT challenge (did your team participate in this one?) - I thought we needed to do 4 sets of 10-12 reps of each of the 8 exercises. I was part way into the 3rd set when I realized we only get a max of 24 points and you achieve that by getting 1 point for each exercise set you do.. so the fourth cycle doesn't count for points.. Nevertheless, I proceeded and did the full fourth cycle - another set of 12 reps for all 8 exercises, when I was about to drop.. I did it because I didn't want to do it just for the points and didn't want to quit on it just because I realized I wouldn't get extra points for that last cycle. I did it!

What is your Halloween Costume? Could be because it's 1 AM and I only slept 4 hrs last night that is causing me to be unable to place it.

9/12 BLC20: Pink Vikings Day 1

Wednesday, September 12, 2012

Day 1 and the waters are already choppy. I don't know who or what i'll encounter over the next 12 weeks so i need to make sure that i am physically strong and, just in case there are zombie's, my cardio endurance needs to be at peek performance.

SIDE NOTE: If you haven't watched Zombieland - you should. It's not scary - just funny.

While most of the natives were sleeping, i got out of my hammock and walked 5 miles. All i saw was blackness...

The blackness was me wondering why i was up so early! I think i was about to pass out from just being tired. 5am...i got up and started my walk at 5am this morning! My goal is to complete another 3 miles tonight. My September goal is to complete 100 walking/jogging miles and so far i'm just at 24 - and that INCLUDED the 5 miles from this morning.

Here's my schedule through Friday...
Wednesday : 8 (5am, 3pm)
Thursday: 7 (4am, 3pm)
Friday: 10 (5am, 5pm)
Saturday: 7 (7am)
Sunday: 6 (6am)

Last night i started making my white tutu for the Turkey Trot this year. I THINK i'll grab a brown shirt and decorate it for the Turkey Trot.

Have you read about SMART goals? Honestly Vicki, I am concerned for you that your goal of walking 100 miles in Sept of 100 miles when we're already at day 13 and you're less than 1/4 of the way is a bit unrealistic..but I'm not suggesting you give up (EVER!) just maybe consider modifying that goal to be more attainable and realistic?? Yikes, and 24 lbs goal for the BLC is 2 lbs a week, which is a nice, but not always do-able.. I WANT that, but aiming for 15.. which is more than my typicaly 1 lb a week. Are you going to be OK if you only get to 12 or 15 lbs even though that is success and progress, too? Just wondering.. trying to help.

Your goals and dedication are wonderful! I didn't know that you'd signed up for 6 5k's. That's so great! I know you'll do them under your 50 minute goal with the way you are training. You've inspired me to get my butt in gear and start training for mine. I like your costume idea too!!

BLC20: My goals for the next 12 weeks and other ramblings

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

I am a Pink Viking!

Over the course of the next 12 weeks the Pink Vikings will keep me plenty busy. I will do my best to keep our ship in the lead. Along with the goals set forth by the Captains, i have my own goals to achieve as well.

Here's my SMART goal statement for the Pink Vikings:
I will lose 24lbs by working out 5x a week, staying within my calorie range, drinking my 64oz of water a day, and incorporating more fruits and veggies in my meal plan . I will know I am making progress because my clothes will be looser and the number of the scale will go down for 12 weeks!

Now here are my more, specific goals...
1) I will lose the 24lbs by the end of the 12 weeks
2) I will drink 64oz of water every day
3) I will work out for at least 45 minutes everyday (I'm starting the 100 day challenge again)
4) I will stay within my calorie range 6x a week
5) My waist size will be under 40 inches
6) My thigh size will be less than 21 inches
7) I will fit into a size 18 jeans
8) I will fit into a size 16 yoga pants
9) I will complete a 5k in under 50 minutes

Side Note: I have six opportunities to complete the 5k in under 50 minutes. I have a scheduled 5k on:
1) Race for the Cure Denton 9/29
2) Race for the Cure Dallas 10/20
3) Trek or Treat 5k 10/28

5) Dallas Turkey Trot 11/22
6) Deck the Trails 5k 12/1

Letter to myself...

Vicky, what are you doing to yourself? You have a great month and you are down a total of 54.2lbs. THEN you go off your rocker and stop everything all together. Why do your sabotage yourself? You have the determination. You have the equipment. So why do you stop?

I know what you are going through. I can feel your pain. STOP allowing the past to dictate your future. You are a beautiful, young woman. These fools don't know what they are passing up when they look you over. THEY don't matter. YOU matter. I need you to stay alive. In order for that to happen - you need to take care of yourself.

You just did a 10k this past weekend. How did you feel when you were done? We both know you could have pumped out another few miles. How do you think you were able to accomplish that? It's your hard work that got you to where you are at right now! You are STRONG! Remember that the next time you want to eat that damn slice...er, slices of chocolate cake. You are so much better then you give yourself credit for.

These next 12 weeks set out to prove to yourself just how much you are worth it. Those goals you listed above...LIVE them every day. Keep them posted on your bathroom mirror, on your fridge door at home, on your computer monitor at work, and in your car. You can do this. We both know you can do this.

12 weeks...just give it 12 solid weeks and then tell me how you feel about yourself at the end. I love you girl...now go and LIVE your life.

Aren't we always harder on ourselves then we are on anyone else. A lot of what i wrote is because i wrote that in response to someone else's comments. Then i had to sit back and realize that i needed to eat my own words. It's hard to think that i'm strong, or that i'm athletic when i'm still way over 250lbs. But i try my best. That's all that i can really do right?

Tomorrow morning i weigh-in for my BLC20 challenge. Whatever the scale says i will update my weight tracker and that will be my starting point. Then i can set my workout and weight loss calendar goals.

Last night i walked 5 miles and then made my Trek or Treat 5k tutu to go along with my kitty ears and tail...

Tonight i plan on walking 7 miles and working on my Turkey Trot tutu.

Yes, i do love wearing tutu's! I don't care how big i am...i enjoy wearing cute costumes! I just posted pictures from this past weekends Tomato Battle and the cape and mask i'm wearing i made. I love doing crafty type things!

Bucket List!

My bucket list has been posted on my Spark Page for some time. But here's a look at how i'm doing with checking off these items.

September catch-up blog!

Monday, September 10, 2012

I have been pretty lazy this month. My food intake has been terrible and i've barely worked out. BUT...

On Saturday i did a 10k on my own just to see how i would do. I did 6.44miles in 2hrs and 4mins. I burned 1157 calories according to my HRM. My friend came with me and she has not worked out in about 2 months. So we warmed up for a mile and then i wanted to walk/jog. She just couldn't breathe right so we kept having to stop. I mean, i didn't want the girl to die! I KNOW i could have done better so this week sometime i'm going on my own to see how i would do.

Here's the breakdown of my times...

On saturday night i went to participate in the Texas Tomato Battle. What is that? A tomato battle - think food fight but only with over ripe tomatoes!

We then went to Loui's which is a hole in the wall pizza place. It was featured in DDD's (Dinners, Drive-ins and Dives). The pizza was amazing! Over-ate!!!!

Weekly Goals:
Monday: 5 miles, wii
Tuesday: 6.2 miles (timed)
Wednesday: 3 miles, wii
Thursday: 6 miles, TNT (Pink Vikings)
Friday: 7 miles
saturday: 7 miles (timed)
Sunday: 5 miles

I'll also throw in what ever my Pink Vikings tell me i need to complete.

Because i've slacked off quite a bit this month, i am up a little with the weight. I weigh-in on Wednesday for my BLC20 - Pink Vikings Team. I'm hoping to be right back where i started for the month. we'll see how it goes...
