Sunny Days Please Come My Way!!

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Oh, the life of living in Nebraska and some of my crazy ideas to keep me motivated!! So back in February I thought it would be a fabulous idea to sign myself and my entire family up for a colorvibe run! I've been doing the couch to 5k program faithfully for past nine weeks. I have one more day before my program is complete- on the treadmill! Oh my goodness, this 5k is less than 30 days away and my ability to run outside vs. on the treadmill is SCARY!! I got myself a used jogging stroller (which sat in my garage for over a week before this grand Nebraska weather would allow me to use it). Sunday, I finally got it out hit the trails and epic fail!! Wind a factor yes, oh yes but with that said what an awakening and what have I gotton myself into???? Yes colorvibe is not competitive or timed but I soooo want to jog the whole thing. Getting kind of nervous here! Now I know I'm out there doing something so not a complete fail and yaya at least I'm trying, but the competitor in me wants it now! (On a side note- my oldest runs the 800 in track and yesterday she had a shot to place but stopped to help out a competor that tripped and fell- obviously doesn't have my DNA- LOL) My final workout will be Thursday, praying for nice weather with no wind to go 30 minutes nonstop!

Don't vs. Can't

Sunday, February 17, 2013

I read in Psychology Today that the way we state things can adjust our success/failure rate. According to the article we should get into the habit of saying don't vs. can't. I've been trying that this past week and I must say that I've had some success with it and some downfalls. Saying don't out loud doesn't always stop you from still thinking, no I can't. Here's some examples of my experiences this week. Valentines day when we have all these sweets and fun things sent our way. I gave all of mine away and in doing so, I felt more empowered telling myself I don't want sweets vs. I can't have them or I'll be over my calorie limit. However, when deciding where to go out to eat and my husband tells my daughter we can't eat at famous dave's because I don't eat most foods on the menu, it ticked me off because I love famous dave's and let's tell it like it is, I couldn't if I was going to remain successful. I shall continue saying don't, or not today, as I continue this journey one day at a time!

Thank you for sharing this! I'm going to try and change my thought process to don't this week. It does sound a lot more like I have control in a matter to say that 'I don't want that' versus 'I can't have that'!

emoticon I am AMAZED by how much diffrence that it makes to change that One Little Word!! I first heard about this on K-Love Radio several months ago and I thought they were over stating how important it was to say "Don't" instead of "Can't".
emoticon Boy, was I WRONG!!
