was this seen on X-ray or MRI?A lot to times when there is a reversal of cervical lordosis on imaaing studies it usually indicates a muscle spasm. That may be the source of your pain. The suggestion to see a chiropractor was a good one to get massage therapy. Also you could try heat as suggested or even one of those icy hot pads. They last about 8 hours and usually work pretty well. My neck sometimes bothers me from sitting at the computer so much and I use Tiger Balm. Works wonders for me. Hope you feel better.

My beau has no curve to his neck and also has cervical spinal stenosis...since he has no insurance and his pain meds that target nerve pain is almost $400.00 per month....he takes the edge off with cheaper prescription painkillers (that don't work nearly as well), and alternating heat with ice packs. He also uses an over the door traction hanger thingy (thats the technical term I think, lol)

You might check into a chiropractor or even massage therapy to start with. I also think that the alternating heat and cold help him just as much as the painkillers.

Oh, and he also sleeps with just one of those U shaped pillows, like for traveling, so he gets good neck support.

Questions for others....?

Saturday, April 28, 2012

First of all.. how much can your weight fluctuate in a day.. like from morning till night time? Secondly.. does walking or marching in place counting the steps on a pedometer do the same as actual walking? I start water aerobics this coming week.. i'm excited about something new and less taxing on my joints!

I can fluctuate 5-10 pounds especially if I eat anything with MSG. Drinking tea acts as a diuretic and usually flushes it back out within a couple of days. Have fun with the water aerobics. I need to go back too.

A persons weight can fluctuate a lot in a days time, depending on what you've eaten, how much salt, how much water, the volume of foods, etc.

Pedometers are relatively accurate, accurate enough for 99% of us anyhow. When you want to do the miles with a pedometer though, you do have to calibrate it, which all the pedometers come with instructions on how to do that. I use the Omron pedometer and it's been a really good one and relatively accurate. emoticon

I think that marching in place should still count sure!! And my weight, especially if it's around TOM, can fluxuate 10 lbs or so!!

Spicing it Up!

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Well I walked my 2+ miles again this evening... in ALOT of pain.. I have decided to spice it up and do some strength training and water aerobics...why? Well, at the pain rate i'm going from walking... i'm afraid I will give it up and I don't want to fail again... I love being outdoors and the walks, the fresh air, the scenery but perhaps I need to work at a slower pace for now... I can remember when I was so ashamed of my weight I would never say a word... well what do you have to say.. ppl can see me.. I weigh 346 pounds.. my mom walks with me.. she is over 60 years old and weighs 180... its ALOT discouraging that she can walk without the pain without the feeling.. am I going to make it back home.. i'm not sure if it was a good wake up call or a bit of a downer which I always think is the devils work when you are making progress... glory be to God and may He lead me in the right path to helping myself.

It's a great ideal to mix it up. Keep finding ways to move and especially ways that you like. I know you can do it.

Do what makes you successful! Water aerobics is a great workout, and one that doesn't injure you! And strength training is WAY more important that cardio for health! Keep plugging along!

Walking outside is great but I think the water aerobics is a great choice for you.

WALK WALK WALK!!

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

Yesterday I changed up my walking place.. I was walking on a back gravel road, my son had wanted to go and ride his bike so we decided to pick a nice flat blacktop road area... BAD IDEA! Traffic was brutal... people just don't slow down, plus I was only able to go a little over 2 miles... now mind you I'm very pleased with anything 2+ miles per day but there is a great difference from gravel to blacktop.. not sure what it is.. if anyone knows I'm up for learning. I do enjoy my walks alot, my husband said don't let anyone tell me i'm not doing a terrific job... the weight isn't falling off like I would like to see it.. some mornings I have even gained a couple pounds.. but I feel it will and if it doesn't.. well my heart being a muscle is being strengthened.. for a diabetic thats a plus... its all a plus! I love that I am being faithful to my walking routine and taking some time each day for me! Take a walk outside today and look around at Gods beauty created for us.. its all around us.. God is Great!

Make sure you have really good shoes. If they're more than a year old the hard pavement will be brutal on your feet, legs, joints, and back.

And don't forget, walking has terrific benefits for your overall health and fitness (so DO keep it up), but it's not the first line method of losing weight.

To me the gravel is harder to walk on because it is not level. To me it would be harder to walk the same distance on gravel than on the blacktop. Walking and just paying attention to the beautiful things that God has created is awesome.

When I started my weight loss journey I started with walking at my lunch. Much like you I do not enjoy certain routes because of traffic and noise. Most of the time I cut through residential neighborhoods to get a prettier view and less traffic.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Again a powerful scripture for this Tuesday from Isaiah 41:10 . As mentioned in yesterdays blog.. I fear death and its not the dying its the how I may die. I don't want to have a stroke because i'm overweight and unhealthy.. which is something none of us can predict but when you read medicine and obesity they scare us to the point of anxiety! Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God, I will strenghten you! A moment to read again.. God is always with us..why not reach out to him in times of wanting to turn to food as comfort and talk to him? I believe God is strengthening me each day.. I have a long road ahead for better health and weight loss... a road I wouldn't want to take without God. I remember a day when I wanted to walk and my walking parnter wasn't available to go.. I almost decided to not go when it occurred to me... God is always with us, he never forsakes us, He is at our side to help us and strengthen us. Walk today! no matter how cold, how tired you are, how discouraged you feel. Take a walk with God today, let him strengthen you and uphold you today.

I've heard that it helps to pray in order to stay on your diet. I need to do it more.

Wonderful blog. I too am afraid of the way I will die, not of death itself. You are so right that God is with us. I'll keep praying for Him to take my fears away. Thank you so much for this uplifting blog.

Love that scripture, and I always hear it in my head in the hymn "How Firm A Foundation". Especially needed as our family matriarch passed this week, and her service is tomorrow.
