Boredom.....

Thursday, February 04, 2010

I was telling my daughter that I get bored if I stay on one thing for too long. Her suggestion was to change up my music. Well I have 2 ipods with over 6000 songs. Can it really be boredom with the music? Or can it be that what I'm doing is getting easier?

My goal is to burn 400-800 calories 5 days per week. For my cardio I usually will work out on the treadmill alternating walking and running. I can do a 15 min mile consistantly now. So I am trying to do it in less...which means more running and less walking.
I also work on 2 other machines. One looks like an elliptical but it's not really. 30 min on there on resistance of 15 to 20 burns about 300 calories. More if I move faster. The other is like a stair climber bit not really either. It's more like that Boflex treadmill walking thing on TV. Again about 300 calories in 30 min.

On the days that I don't go to the gym (they also offer zumba, step, kick boxing, yoga nd spinning) I will work out at home with the Wii or hip hop abs. Obviously I can control and track calories burned more consistantly when I hit the gym.

And when you are 45 and going... you need to track calories going in and calories being burned.

So what do I do about boredom? How do I stop it? Is it the music?

I wish I had your discipline! I think it is just the weather. Once the weather gets better then you can mix it up more with some outdoor stuff. Keep up the good work!

You may like to listen to music for the tempo for cardio. I got to where I hated working in front of the TV because I hated comercials. I hated listening to the songs because they would quit and go to the next and got bored with the same ones over and over. So I do audio books. I only listen to them when I am working out.

Sounds like you have good variety going. Do you have the Wii Fit Plus? It tracks calories burned also, with some extra workouts and fun things to do. Do you think it could be just restlessness in general??

Sounds like you have a lot of options as far as exercise. Just keep challenging yourself to do different and maybe more difficult things. I just started the 100 pushup challenge. It lasts 6 weeks. My buddy negatively asked why am I always doing these different things. I told him I like to keep things interesting. I like a variety of challenges and exercise. I'll get too bored if I do the same old same old.

6000 is a lot of songs...don't think that's the problem...unless they're all the same genre!!

Today is my 2nd day of a challenge

Tuesday, February 02, 2010

So I began a couple things on 2/1. Apersonal challenge for me over the next 21 days to cut down and/or eliminate gluten from my diet. I can say that I did 2 meals yesterday without any gluten. It's a hard thing to do when you're a hardcore carbivore like me. That was one of the things I noticed when I first started to track my food intake was how many carbs I eat. I think I am making the gluten free harder than it needs to be. Can't I just replace my carbs with more veggies? Wouldn't that also be closer to eating clean as well? Well today is Day2 of that 21 day challenge.... we will see how it goes.
I also have started a challenge with the ladies from Fab 40 called The Summer Challenge. This challenge goes from 2/1 thru 5/31 and the goal is to be able to wear something you want to look good in. My pick was to look good in a tankini and have less jiggle to my arms. I am hoping that by the time I am ready to expose my jiggle-less arms I can also do push ups without being on my knees.

I am looking forwards to every day of this challenge because not only am I challenging my body I am challenging my willpower and my mind. Afterall isn't it our willpower and our minds that cause the problems with our body???

I will SUCCEED!!!!

A challenge wouldn't be a challenge if it wasn't a challenge. Motivation and Determination and a dash of Encouragement is awesome recipe for success!!! emoticon emoticon

Try to cut down on gluten without eliminating carbs. You need carbs to fuel your brain!!!!

Transformation

Friday, January 29, 2010

I have kept a gratitude journal for about 3 years or so. Occasionally I go back and look at it to see what I have written. There were times that my daily entry was very thin and then there were times that I took up a lot of space. In the beginning I was not as grateful as I seem to be now.
This morning I was reading about doing a journal on “who I am” (on Oprah of course!)and I realize that while I appreciate things more by writing what I’m grateful for it doesn’t really speak about Who I am. So I think while I put my body thru a transformation during our Summer Challenge I also need to put my mind thru a transformation.

“I believe that when you stop renewing and are no longer open to change and the possibilities that continually unfold, you stop being alive and are just getting through the years. Transformation doesn’t happen unless you‘re willing: It’s your choice.”

— Oprah

Challenges

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

I have always believed that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. So with that belief I started a challenge for myself to quit drinking soda. To help me do this I had posted it on a site I belong to called fabulously40.com . Well I received a lot of support and was easily able to kick my pop habit. That got me going on a few other 21 day challenges. On 2/1 I will begin another 21 day challenge...I'm going gluten free.....or attempting to anyways.
There have been other challenges issued by my friends on there and I have attempted to participate in them. Some held and some didn't. But it was and is fun to challenge myself. During these challenges I decided that if I couldn't do it that just meant I wasn't prepared. So if lacking proper preparation to complete a challenge was what help me back then I decided to properly prepare and revisit those challenges.
Annie our fearless leader on our team Fab40 &Beyond &Fighting Flab has been posting daily challenges for us to try. I think Daily challenges are great because they give you an opportunity to try out something without a long term commitment. And hey if you like it you can always incorporate it into your daily routines.
I really am enjoying all these challenges but what I like the best is having others support or join me in on these challenges. I have learned a lot in the process. And that has motivated me to keep doing more.

Great job on the soda free lifestyle- have accomplished it and then slid back to habit a few times now. I plan to start again 2/1. I kept a piggy bank on my desk at work and put in the money I would have spent on a soda (or 2) especially when I worked 12 hr shifts. I bought myself something with the money when I was 30 days free.....I need to be better prepared this time and have a few stand ins in drawer- it's too easy to just visit the machine when I have a break.
Good luck with your next challenge!

Vikki - I'd love to join you on gluten free but I don't know if I'm ready for that one yet!!! Maybe I need to try it for 1 day first - LOL

Good luck with this one!!! I know you can do it!
