Running to China
Challenges in our lives can happen in many ways at times you least expect it. Over seven years ago my dad was diagnosed with Diffuse Lewy Body Disease, a combination of Parkinsonís and Alzheimerís.
When I was a teenager my dad and I used to do fun runs together for charities. My dad started off with small running races then started biking. His biggest achievement was completing the El Tour de Tucson, a 100 mile bike race. When the disease started to affect my dadís motor skills, he said to me he would give anything to be able to do another race, something physical. The last time I saw my dad, his eyes lit up and he said ďmy baby girl!Ē The man who was once my rock couldnít sit up and give m hug without help.
I have decided to put a challenge in my life to bring back the spirit of my dadís racing by running on a half-marathon on the Great Wall of China. To do this, I have committed to raising $6000.00, donating a large portion to the Alzheimerís Association in my dadís honor.
I am looking forward to describing my run in detail to my dad, to help him feel he was there with me. The race takes place in 2010, I am asking if you could donate $20.10 (or more!) to help me honor my fatherís spirit and raise money for Alzheimerís Research. If you have a business you would like advertised on my blog, I would be happy to return the favor and add a link!
