Grandmotherly advice

Monday, April 22, 2013

I love this bit of grandmother wisdom for curtailing impulse clothes purchases I read today: My grandmother always says you should wear something once for every dollar you spend on it. I thought it was silly the first time I heard it, but now I find myself holding up items and thinking "Will I really wear this 25 times?" It definitely helps my impulse buys! G-E-N-I-U-S! What tactics do you use to avoid purchase regrets?

I absolutely have a cost/wear ratio to justify expenses of clothing.

I have regretted very few clothing purchases in the 4 years since I lost the weight. I spent lots and lots of time trying on clothes and looking in the mirror and learning my new body and developing my new style. It seemed somewhat narcissistic, but overall I think that spending that time helped set me up to maintain. At first I tried to just reward myself and spend the amount I would have spent at Weight Watchers per week, but later I rewarded myself even more. I'd try on at least 20 things for each item I purchased. I still spend plenty of time when I select clothing. I think that helps me make better decisions.

Praying they catch the bomber

hearts go out to anyone affected by the tragic event at the Boston marathon this week. There is evil everywhere, yet the aftermath of this event has shown that good people vastly outnumber those that wish to do harm. Kindness will always prevail.

Boston marathon

Monday, April 15, 2013

Thoughts and prayers for families and friends of those killed at the Boston marathon today as well as for all those injured. We enjoyed a day in Goldmine ghost town. I found the train conductor and mine tour guide very informative. The mystery shack was entertaining. The weather was perfect. Now heading to Flagstaff so we can be closer to the train for the Grand Canyon tomorrow. Yesterday we had fun at the Rawhide. Climbing the rock wall with my girls was a challenging workout. We got some color by the pool. The kids enjoyed panning for gold, petting animals and riding the burros. The stagecoach ride was bumpy and the funniest part was when my daughter Olivia threw her drink and straw when she was startled by the gun shot during one of the shows. One of the actors kept asking me to call him, lol. I enjoyed flirting right back with him, lol. Think it annoyed my dh since he was sitting right there w/my folks and kids. Tried rattlesnake for the first time. I thought it tasted like fried clams.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

"When things get hard donít look for someone to blame. You already know that the world can be a mean nasty place and I donít care how tough you are it can beat you down and keep you there if you let it. But life isnít about how hard you hit. Itís about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. Thatís how winning is done. You gotta be willing to take the hit and not point fingers. Cowards Do that and that isnít you. You are better than that." - Rocky
Another beautiful day out today. Proud of myself for going to boot camp and getting one of my good running buddies to join me this morning. Going to run w/another buddy at lunch time but first i need to have breakfast and see if I can find new dustbags and filters for my vacuum cleaner. Hope you all have a great day and emoticon for taking the time to read my little blog.
