Becoming the person you want to be

Saturday, December 03, 2011

Take a look at your priorities and your goals. Where did they come from? Are they the products of soul-searching, self-analysis, and careful planning? Or are they a reaction to pressures from other people? Did you find them within yourself or within the pages of a magazine? The answers to these questions are important because they tell you if the person you're becoming is someone you want to be. Here's another way to look at a goal: do you want it, or do you just think you should want it? It's not easy to follow your own direction in life. But it's more possible than you may think. Question everything. Every priority in your life needs to justify why it's there. If you can't come up with a good reason that actually comes from YOU, maybe it doesn't belong.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on goal-setting and priorities. I agree wholeheartedly. I read this quote just recently, it's in agreement with the things you said: Goals should be productive...not destructive. In other words, if it's killing you to meet it..then maybe you need to rethink it, that might not be the right goal. Or it could be the right goal but you're on the wrong path to get there. Anywho, thanks for the reminder. emoticon

Do you see possibilities or problems?

Friday, December 02, 2011

It's been said that some of the smartest people around would make lousy entrepreneurs. How can that be? The fact is, some people are so smart they can easily see all of the problems, roadblocks, and snafus that they'll need to overcome to succeed. They can think of all kinds of reasons why their idea won't work. This knowledge can overwhelm any thoughts of possibilities or dreams. When you think of your goals, do you focus on the positives of making it happen, or the negatives of potential barriers? To reach your goals, you gotta really want them. More importantly, you gotta really believe that you can do it. Think more about why you CAN make it happen instead of why you can't. No more excuses

No problem with seeing all the potential roadblocks, problems, and snafus. The real issue is what you do from there. Let them get you down? Or look for ways around them? Related to the half-full vs half-empty idea. Positive attitude goes a long way!

Debating on getting on the treadmill or going back to bed myself since I only got 5 hours sleep. Son woke up due to a nightmare & then I finally put the Elf on a shelf out after hearing my kindergardener had wished for ours to come out to her classes Elf. Today is errand day. Need to drop of the drycleaning, make Dr. appt for my daughters annual appt & get any needed groceries. I went grocery shopping last night w/the kids but usually forget a few things. So just need to double check my list. They can be a little distracting but I love them. Want to bring my son to his All star sports class but he keeps telling me he doesn't like it b/c he gets all hot and sweaty from running, lol. He's just like my oldest daughter & I. Maybe I'll just take the ypump &/or kickboxing classes later. Or just play xbox kinect w/the kids or by myself. Decided on trying to get some more shuteye. What are your plans for today?

Sleep is a good thing - most of us never seem to get enough. My problem is most days I get 4 hours, wake up and cant get back to sleep for a while - really frustrating. Since its now Friday, plans for the day are to elevate out tree so k1tt3n can set up her train village with more room, do some Kinect games, and get some sleep to start!

I slept in this morning too, after having a few bad nights sleep due to my son not sleeping. I did get in 40 minutes after school, so I don't feel too bad about sleeping in.
I hope the rest of your day went well and that you get a good nights sleep tonight. emoticon

sounds like a busy day for you! I am heading for the grocery store my self! If you could see my fridge, you would laugh...it is empty, and if we eat leftovers one more night....I think my husband will throw the next temper tantrum! Thankfully daughter will be in school, so hopefully I wont be too distracted! Hope you got your workout in, I am hoping to get one in after shopping, before picking up my daughter! Have a great day! Happy first day of December! emoticon emoticon

What does your conscience tell you?

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Ever get the feeling that you should be doing something other than what you are? Not just in the area of good vs. evil, but in your exercise and nutrition choices. Do you ever feel guilty about doing a half-hearted job on a project or neglecting your duty to family? Listen to your conscience. It's telling you that you're getting off track. It knows what you're capable of and where your priorities are. If you neglect those standards--if you get your priorities mixed up--your conscience is going to let you know about it. When you work, turn out a product that would make you proud--even if you think nobody notices. When you plan your day, make sure it agrees with the healthy direction you want to head. That'll keep that nagging inner voice from reminding you that "something is not quite right here." You may think no one is looking, but somebody is--you are

Do you know where you're going?

Tuesday, November 29, 2011

The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.

- Malcolm X, American spokesman for the Nation of Islam

Who tries to put together a puzzle without seeing a picture of the finished product? Who shoots an arrow without knowing exactly where they want it to hit? Your goals--particularly your health and family goals--are likely more important to you than puzzles and archery. So why trust them to luck or a fuzzy idea of what success is? If you can clearly state and see what your vision is, you're well on your way to seeing it come to life. From the beginning, world leaders with a strong, clear vision have been able to energize people with the possibility of greatness. In the same way, a vision can motivate you and keep you fired up. Instead of stumbling around, hoping to reach your goals, you'll know success when you see it, and know what needs to be done to get there. The clearer your vision, the more targeted your plan will be. What do you see?

I see a successful, clean, organized, healthy family w/lots of great friends & family.

Well said. Having vision and being able to translate that into concrete goals is a vital key to success. Your future is yours to control if you are willing to take the reigns.
