Out of the DUMPS and exhausted!!

Saturday, March 26, 2011

With the help of my Sparkfriends I am now out of the Dumps(YEAH)! The scale is back on track and I am chugging forward towards my goals!! This is why I am here at Sparkpeople. To get through these days that would have normally sabotaged my diet. I thank everyone that helped! Enough dwelling on the that and on to my Friday. I have been diligently doing my exercise each day along with all my other chores and working. Well yesterday, I did my early morning workout and when I got home from work(worked a half hour late) ate some lunch and went in the pool for exercise for 75 minutes. All that with no problem but I had decided since it was the start of the weekend I would indulge in a bit of a nap for a half hour or so while I was waiting for my bF to get home from work. Well I laid down at 430 and the dog woke me up at 830pm! 4 HRs later!! My BF had gotten home, he had a friend that had stopped over for a few minutes, the dogs had eaten and he was making dinner. All of which I never heard anything! I got up and ate and was sitting at the computer and kept falling asleep! He took my laptop and said. Go to bed! You are exhausted. Slept like a baby all night(sorta as the dogs got up twice to go out). I feel very refreshed. I guess I didn't realize how tired I was! So the moral of this story is... Take time to refresh and don't get overtired! That also will contribute to the sabotaging of your diet!
Now I can go at another week of my journey with renewed energy!!
Take care and have a great Saturday!

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!

This is so true - I saw a one-liner that says Americas eat an average of 300 extra cals a day when overtired, and I know I do too! Glad you're out of the dumps, keep Sparkin!

Help! get me out of the dumps!

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Ok ever since yesterday I have been down in the dumps. Does anyone use that word anymore? Hopefully you all know what I mean! I got up like normal yesterday and did my 20 min walk dvd, Got on the scale and POW I had gained just a fraction of a pound! WHAT? "me?? what did I do wrong?".. this is what I'm thinking! On with the day... did my afternoon pool hour and 15 min and found back was a bit stiff and sore. Ate a good dinner and decided not to go for a walk as my back hurt too much. I felt guilty about it all evening and I guess I still do! I had thought that if I take off last night that it would help me recover faster to be able to walk without the pain today! Hopefully that will be the case!

Today: got up like normal and did my 20 min walk and actually did a couple of extra minutes to get a few more calories burned. I knew when I got up that I had gained a touch more weight. I could tell..feel it or something cuz when I got on that scale again this morning I had gained another partial pound. So now I have been on the upswing 2 days in a row! in the scheme of things it makes no difference as I have lost for 5 weeks and this is just a minor thing. I ate nothing out of the ordinary or more of anything so I know its just temporary. I just have to be careful not to let it sabotage my long term goals! If I can get past this and I will I know that I have it beat this time and I can accomplish this weightloss mystery!

Have a great day and remember:
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION! FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!

I have to agree with WDWGIRLS. I have been where you are, I have gained a couple of pounds in a day. At first it freaked me out but then I realized that it was temporary weight. Usually water for some reason or another. I know that I hadn't eatne 7,000 extra calories the day before!

It may help you to only weight yourself once or even twice a week. Hang in there. You are headed in the right direction! emoticon

That darn scale - I only get on it once a week because it is not always a friend. A better friend is my tape measure, and the way I feel. I know when I have been doing my best and I try to log that on my nutrition page - congratulate myself for my good choices, etc. On the flipside, I do not log when I have made some less than good choices, I refuse to beat myself up. Just go on to the next day.

In the dumps - I like to give myself a virtual vacation. Sometimes I go to the GoHawaii webpage, sometimes I go to VRBO and look at villas in the Mediterranean or Italy. I don't expect I will ever rent a villa, but I like window shopping! Same thing with clothes, if you really love clothes, go window shopping at your favorite upscale store or look at fabulous shoes. Whatever lifts your spirits! Sometimes it is dancing your pants off with some of your favorite tunes.

Keep sparking and avoid the scale! except on your designated weigh in day. That's my two cents worth. Why isn't there any emoticon of a SCALE WITH A BIG X THROUGH IT? emoticon

emoticon COuld be that time of the month that caused the weight gain. Could be a little too much salt or processed carbs. Could be your body overdid it and the muscles that have broken down are sore. They hold fluid until they heal. Could be you did not drink enough water. Could be you are weighing yourself too much. Could be the dreaded set point. Could be your body has adjusted to what you have thrown at it and you need to vary the routine.

Taking the evening off without feeling guilty was the right thing to do. DO NOT STRESS ABOUT IT!!!!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

If you are exercising, allowing for rest, watching your calorie intake and getting plenty of sleep, you will lose the weight! Hang in there and don't give up. Your body plays tricks on you. You can be at the same weight for weeks and then BLAM you lose 8 pounds in two weeks. Just listen to your body when it come to pain. Spend more time in the pool. Add weights or pool intervals, stretch more for that back.

I loved Jim trying his corny jokes to get you out of the dumps. Me, I suggest you write down all the good things you have done over that last five weeks. YOU HAVE BEEN DOING AWESOME!!!!!!

    So....dumps....I will try.

1) perhaps instead of down in the dumps, perhaps you just need a good dump...(don't know if you use that word for poo where you are)

if that didn't work I try again!!

2) A friend asked me the other day if I would wade in if I saw 6 men attacking my mother-in-law.
I replied " No probably not, I think they could manage"

ok ok...I know that was a bit poor. I try again.

3) What do you call a fish swimming down the river at 100 miles per hour?
A motor Pike

still in the dumps?.....1 last attempt.

4) I have a wart on the end of my nose.

ok...I give up.

cheerio

weigh in day! 5 lbs *poof* gone!

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Wow was I surprised that I actually lost 5 lbs this week! More power to ME!!! I guess my changing things up is working! I would never guess I would still be losing this much weight each week. I know I know it won't last but it sure helps the motivation level at 4am when I got up to do my mile walk! Dropped my caloric intake for this next week and have already upped my exercise by 15-30 min/day.
Last night we walked the dogs our normal route to get a half hour in and it wasn't til the last 10 min or so that my back started bothering me! What a little less weight will do for stress on the old body!
Short blog today as I gotta get moving and head to work!
Have a great day all and remember:
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION

emoticon Watch those calories. Make sure you get enough fuel for all the exercise. Research shows if your drop below 1200 calories/day for more than two weeks, your body will go into starvation mode. Be cautious!

With that said, you still sound strong, energized and excited and THAT IS GREAT! Pain free is even better. SOunds like you are enjoying the process and that alone will help you transform into a healthy lifestyle. emoticon

This weeks challenge to myself

Sunday, March 20, 2011

As a new week starts I have decided to push myself just a bit farther and add some more exercise to my already daily 90 min. I started today by just doing an extra 15 min in the pool and then i am going to try to do a 20 min/mile walk in the morning before work. I'm planning to do this each work day as I will get up at 4 am to get it in.

I have found that my 30 min of walking in the evening is getting easier and I am taking longer routes to get the same 30 min in. I was remembering tonight that 2 months ago I couldnt get 100 yards down the street before having to turn back! Not sure if I have more energy but I do know I feel a hell of a lot better! Back still hurts when I walk but I can go longer before the pain sets in and it doesn't take me as long to recover.

Due to my joint replacements I can never run but I certainly can work towards doing power walking. For the first time in a long I look forward to exercise time!

Have a great week everyone and remember:
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!

emoticon Sounds good but don't go out too fast or you'll get injured. You masy want to sleep in on Wednesday just to let your body heal. Rest is just as important as exercise. Some days walk easier to do active recovery. The pool is the best place to be and if you keep your heart down, that is another great way to recover.

I am so excited you have made all this progress so far. Can't wait to see more blogs and hear more joy from you. Have a wonderful week! emoticon emoticon emoticon

The day after!

Saturday, March 19, 2011

WOW yesterday was my birthday and I did NOT want to blow my diet for even one day! If I'm going to live a healthy lifestyle then to me that means EVERY day. If I take a day off for MY birthday then next week is my son's birthday so I would use that excuse to take that day off too. And then on and one. SO....instead of going out for Mexican food like we normally would have done, we stayed in and my bf made Mexican food for the 7 of us! Everyone got to eat their favorites and since he made the taco meat with extra lean meat I had a taco salad with just a bit of meat, a touch of 2% cheese and used home made pico de Gallo for my dressing. Also added a tbs of fat free sour cream. It was delish! Everyone else pigged out on fajitas, quisadillas, enchilladas and tacos, and chips and salsa. I also had some baked tostitos with some of the pico on them. Everyone thought it was better than going out and cheaper too! No one could even tell I was on a diet as they were too busy pigging out!
My family got me water exercise equipment for my pool time and new sneakers for my walking!
My son and his wife got me a Macy's gift card to buy new clothes when I am ready!
I am so blessed to have people that care about me so much that I will NOT LET THEM DOWN! I will also not let myself down!

All in all I stayed under my calories for the day and actually got in most of my exercise that I normally would do. Only thing lacking was the dog walking as I was exhausted by the time we got cleaned up and sat down. Still managed to burn 800 calories or so earlier in the day!
Have a great Saturday everyone and remember:

FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION!!

Happy Day-After-Your-Birthday!! Sounds like you made it a truly spectacular day -- congratulations!! I love how you point out that, if you use your bday as an excuse today, then next week you'll use your son's bday as an excuse...yes! How easily we rationalize our poor choices! For me, it starts with my son's bday in September, followed by his brother's bday in October, then Halloween, then Thanksgiving...you get the picture. But, no more! Like you, I choose to live a healthy lifestyle EVERY day!
