Day 2 Logging Food

Friday, February 15, 2013

Food for Valentine's Day...

Okay, so I'm not being careful, I'm just logging how I've been eating every day for a week to see where my calories come from. I did have three chocolate cupcakes yesterday, so all my numbers are high, but that's okay, right? It was Valentine's Day. :-)

Calories 2121
Fat 77
Carbs 351
Fiber 67
Sodium 973
Protein 56

Logging food now

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Hi everyone!!!

I've decided to start logging my food to see where my calories are coming from. I have been working out nearly every day for a month and I have not lost any weight at all. I think I might be eating to maintain instead of eating to lose weight. I'm also not sure I'm eating enough of the right macro nutrients, although a lot of the professionals in the filed say it's about micro nutrients not macro.

Yesterday was:

1939 cal
64 g fat
280 g carbs
80 g protein

Obviously everything is too high. :( Will try to do better today.

Who says too high? Every body is different, activity levels different....with that in mind, I eat about that much fat and protein myself. My calories go that high only rarely. I think that sometimes I need the energy that amount of fuel brings. My carbs are usually quite a bit lower but I find that lower carbs ( what a plant eater can do) and higher protein/fat seem to work for me. Maybe just track what you eat and see what you're doing before thinking stuff like everything is too high. I found that tracking, which I had never done before SP, is informative. After a couple of years at this, I still don't feel aware enough or confident enough to stop.

Welcome to the world of calorie counting. It sucks at first, but you get used to it. You'd be surprised how much fat some foods have. Good luck!

Day 6 of 7 day juice fast.

Monday, January 14, 2013

Hello everyone!

We had to finish the juice fast today because my partner was experiencing medical side effects of the juicing. Nothing to do with her type 1 diabetes, but with her epilepsy. So we stopped juicing and ate some celery and cucumber and drank a cup of miso broth. Tomorrow we will juice in the morning, eat a big green salad for lunch and have creamed kale and beans for supper with roasted sweet potato. We will continue to enjoy one green juice per day and one red juice (beet, apple, ginger) in the evening. Over the summer we may juice one day per week or do several three day juice fasts while the kids are away.

Thanks for reading about our juicing journey.

Your juicing journey sounds terrific! It reminds me that I need to do one soon. The problem is that I need to find a block of time in which I won't be uber busy, either physically or mentally. Do you think a weekend fast is sufficient? Or do you find a longer venture gives better detoxifying results?

Good luck with everything :)

Day 4 of 7 day juice fast.

Saturday, January 12, 2013

Hey everyone!

This is going really well! My partner Karen and I are finding a lot of great recipes and we're really loving this experience. Karen is down ten pounds and I'm down five since starting the fast, before that I'd lost three pounds and Karen had lost two. So all together, we are down 20 lbs since January 1st. Not too bad, eh?

I will confess to having moments of weakness. Tonight I squabbled with my honey and I was tempted to eat something, but instead I sipped a hot herbal tea. It's hard cooking meals for my kids and not tasting their food before I serve it. Today I taught a cooking class and we made some amazing meals... so hard to smell all that great tasting food.

Three more days to go! We have tried so many recipes, so that when this is over, we'll have a nice tidy collection of favourites to choose from when we return to our healthy clean eating vegan program. :D I want to enjoy a juice for breakfast, a salad for lunch, a smoothie for afternoon snack, a cooked supper and a juice before bed. I definitely want to keep all those lovely raw vegetables in my diet, both in juice and salad form. I'm excited to be done this fast so we can return to EATING!!!

Okay, that's all! I'll come back on Day 7.

Day 1 of 7 day juice fast

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

Hello everyone!

What a great day! Sunny outside and sunny inside. After five days of eating clean and three days of doing the Hungry for Change detox cleanse, I've now started a seven day juice fast. I was going to follow along with the World's Biggest Juice Detox led by Jason Vale aka "The Juice Master" but his juices use a lot of fruit. Because my lovely partner has type 1 diabetes and cannot drink a lot of fruit juice, I've decided to join her in drinking primarily green juices with very little fruit.

For breakfast today I had the Mean Green Detox juice from the movie "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead". I added a tsp of spirulina and a scoop of my Greens+ detox blend. By breakfast, I mean 1pm because that is when I was finally hungry. By 2:45pm I was starving so I had my second juice of the day called Winter White, made primarily with fennel. I am not a fan of that blend and so I will not drink it again. At 5:30pm or so I had my third juice which was the Super Green Detox from the Hungry for Change cleanse. I drank my fourth juice shortly thereafter and to tell you the truth, I don't even remember doing it. Anyway, it was called Holiday Green Elf from www.rebootwithjoe.com/ . It was very good and so I shall definitely make that one again. I still have my fifth juice to drink which is another Mean Green, plus my dessert juice a carrot/ginger/orange juice. It's currently 7:30pm and I don't really know if I'll have a chance to drink two more juices before bed. I am very tired this evening and have a dull headache on my left side.

Speaking of detox symptoms, I think in the eight days leading up to this juice fast I pretty much experienced all known detox symptoms including, but not limited to, headaches, back pain, muscle fatigue, frequent waking, impatience (with people), and thirst. On the upside, I have clearer vision, smoother skin and I'm sleeping better.

I had originally planned to drink six juices today, B, snack, L, snack, S, snack... but so far I've only had four juices and I doubt I'll drink two more today.

Exciting! I once did a 7 day juice fast and colonic cleanse at a resort in Thailand. It was great! I am impressed!
