PRE-Cancer! Yay!

Bet you never thought you'd see those words together

I got the second opinion from a breast cancer pathology specialist back today, and they believe it was pre-cancer. Their diagnostic standards for this condition are slightly different from those of the general pathology unit at a community hospital, and by their rules, the abnormalities in my cells are pre-cancerous, but not cancer.

So we stopped radiation, pending MRI results and possibly further biopsy if indicated by the MRI. I will still need hormone therapy as whatever is going on in there is estrogen sensitive, and tamoxifen or related drugs can help keep in from developing into full-fledged cancer. But I DON'T HAVE CANCER!!!






So taking it easy for a couple of days until the soreness/redness/tiredness from the radiation treatments I have had goes away, then I'm back into it!

First Treatment

Had my first radiation treatment today - it wasn't bad at all (I hear it gets rough after a few weeks as the dosage accumulates...). I got my tattoos yesterday (they are there to help the techs line up the treatment site correctly each day).

My eating schedule got all messed up though since I'm going in at midday this week, right around the time I usually eat lunch (they didn't have earlier appointments open this week - I will be going in earlier starting next week), so I ate lunch late, then ran in the evening and didn't quite have the energy to finish the time I wanted to run because it had been too long since I'd eaten. Nothing to do with the treatment - I just need to straighten out my daily schedule this week so that I'm not too hungry going into a workout! I think I may try dividing my midday meal into two snacks (before & after treatment) & just eat dinner at my normal time.

A good day...

Today I worked a couple of hours, went to get my CT scan so they can do all the math & physics to set up my radiation treatments, broke for lunch with some friends at Nezuntos (yummy food!), then back to the hospital to talk to another doctor about the hormone therapy. Low point - everyone wants my blood & I got stuck AGAIN - I'm actually starting to get good at not passing out when I get stuck... Went home & worked a little more, then walked up to pick up my daughter from her after-school program, and we walked back in the dark & looked at Christmas lights. Salmon for dinner, bath for kiddo, then I got to run & it's starting to feel good again YAY! I think I may have gotten black marker on one of my white running bras (leftover from the CT scan this morning - they make marks all over the area of interest & I hadn't washed them off yet) - oh well...

Also, last night, I learned that a good friend of mine (who I haven't seen in FAR too long!) will be able to visit for a few days - our time off and her ex's time with the kids all aligned. I can't wait to see her next week!

Back to running this week

Did a mile on Sunday, 2 miles on Monday and 2 miles today - all pretty slow, but I haven't run since before my surgery and even the best jog bra doesn't stop "motion" completely, and the incision is still a little sensitive - and REALLY itchy! All the docs say it's healing well though, so can't be too unhappy I guess...

Generally felt pretty good but I can't wait until my chest is comfortable enough to "move out" a little more...

I do keep wondering if I'm in denial - but I think I'm just relieved that the "bad news" wasn't all that bad (relatively speaking ) ! I guess I'll learn more about how I really feel about all this after my treatments start... tomorrow is the first meeting with the RO.

In other news, my daughter is finally done with orthopedist visits for her broken arm - YAY! She fell off a horse in September & had 2 different casts for a total of 8 weeks, then the splint. Still needs to wear her splint for gym, recess and rough play, but doesn't have to wear it all the time anymore.

And 2/3 of my Christmas presents are mailed... only one box left and that one has the wedding present in it too (I'm a little behind - the wedding was in February!)...
