TGIF

I got a call from DS this morning (he calls before school everyday) he wanted to make sure that we were going to have music on while we make dinner. emoticon that can only mean that he's looking forward to dancing in the kitchen with Mom while we cook dinner & put it on the table. He normally doesn't like things to change (typical autism trait) but this change is one that he is really taking to!

My ex, DS & I all have the same Dr. when I had my appointment the Dr asked if my walking video is something I might be able to convince my son to do with me on the weekends (he is extremely overweight). I haven't had much luck with that & let her know, but I told her about the "dancing". She agreed that even that will help him and as long as I can get him to do it willingly he won't even know he's getting some exercise.

So I've got his Disney music all ready to spend a hour or 2 dancing & cooking with DS. Good exercise for both us and a real spirit lifter for me.

Wheee! I love when the "exercise" is just plain fun! Yeah, it'll be great for your son, and for you, too - all those dancing endorphins make you just feel SO alive! :) And what a fabulous way to bond with your son, too!

Congratulations - that was BRILLIANT, Varee! :)

Cheers,
Maya

WOO HOO! Another dancing moment with DS! Yes, any form of movement WILL help - I'm so glad you found something that interests him! Kids are SO picky! LOL

Oh, my DS#2 went to the gym with me the other day - I tried to explain to him that when I go I'm in my "zone" --- hm, with ADHD, ODD, BiPolar I don't think he truly understood what I meant. HE was going to show ME up! Asked how fast I ran - I told him 6.0 mph. He said Hmph, that's easy. Then he asked how far I run. I told him 3 miles. WELL, he really tried --- then used the "excuse" that someone was calling him on his cell phone and left (15 minutes later! LOL)
Well, the point is that he WANTED to do SOMETHING *WITH* me --- and with his issues and being that he's a "MAN" now (21) that is something to be slightly excited about! LOL

Have a GREAT dance tonight!

Getting DH's support

Thursday, February 26, 2009

Last night DH & I went to the store together. This normally would spell disaster for me. DH tried to talk me into "Chocolate Covered Fruits" and about any other candy that had chocolate in it. We came out of the candy isle with a box of "Good & Plenty" for him (I can't stand the taste of licorice, so I know that I won't touch them) I told him, that the store had something else he could buy for me instead of candy, and got him to agree to buy it for me. What is funny was he didn't even know what the item was so had no idea how much that box of Good & Plenty was going to cost him. The purchase? A stability ball.

Over the last week DH has made a few comments about their being "less of me" and he's not complaining about that. I actually think the trip down the candy aisle was more a way of letting me know that if I'm losing weight for him, it's not necessary. I told him that I understand he loves me no matter how big or small I am, but this is something I need to do for me and I like the way I feel and also pointed out that since I have really started working on keeping my sodium level where it should be I haven't had to deal with "elephant ankles".
So, now I think I have a little more support from him.

My feet & ankles used to swell so bad that I wore a size 8 shoe in the morning, by noon I had to change over to size 9's and by 5:00 pm I had to put on size 10's and when I got home at night my feet were swelling out of them. That hasn't happened since I've been back to SP and started tracking everything.

It's great that your husband is so supportive, it definitely helps. Mine is supportive of the weight lose, doesn't get blogging about it.
It's funny to hear you talk about elephant ankles. We call them "cankles." You know...no difference between calves and ankles.

I have a GF here who's got HBP and that swelling ankle thing. And I've been trying to get her to drink MORE water and STAY AWAY from McD's! But, she's single and doesn't see the savings that cooking at home will provide, but DOES understand the health benefits. Hey, I got her to lower her 12 cans soda to 8, some days less, and get in MORE WATER!

The hubbys say "I love you no matter how much you weigh, no matter what your hair looks like, no matter how many wrinkles you have ..." My husband tried that line on me and I told him, "Would you rather love me like this, or love me longer???" Bottom line.

WOO HOO! CONGRATS ON THE STABILITY BALL!!!!

Wow! That story about the swelling ankles - I didn't know it could get that bad! Glad you've got 'em under control now, Varee!

And how sweet of your husband to buy you the stability ball in exchange for his sweets. :) I like it - it's a win-win situation there! And he can come help you "practice" getting your balance on the ball ... it can even be fun! :)

Cheers,
Maya

Rambling on...

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

I was in for a big surprise this morning. I got up and even DH couldn't finish all the meatloaf twist I'd left for him last night! There are still some in the refrigerator this morning! I plan on having one for lunch today.

I am stranded at home today. DH took my car to work and I refuse to drive his truck. I had a "trailing arm" break on the back of my car and with all the driving I do, I don't want to take chances with what I know is already a problem. DH works at an "Auto Recycling Center" also known as a Junk Yard. He has the part my car needs and will be stopping at a friends garage tonight and installing it. Sometimes I like being stranded at home for the day. Since my car isn't out front few people realize I am home so I have the whole day to do what I want as well as things I've neglected at home.

I am so sore from yesterday, no, I didn't workout to hard, just put a lot of stress on a lot of muscle groups. My left shoulder & left side of my back hurt the worst. So, will that be my excuse for not doing my strength training today? No Way! Instead of counting my reps, I'll be saying. I am strong, I am determined, I am successful. I know when I make my mucles move the way they are supposed to, along with some extra stretching, it will help relieve some of the pain. My plans today also include 4 mile walk/jog video plus that bonus video that is only one mile but all at the jogging pace (not sure how well I'll do with this one, but I'm going to give it a shot).

A year ago the car problems & the sore muscles would have been enough for me to throw in the towel and just lay around all day, eating whatever I could find without working to hard to prepare it. NOT ANY MORE!

I started Rita's recipe for "Crockpot Fiesta" at 7:00 this morning, I have a list of things to work on, and my exercises to do. I don't have time to find the towel, much less throw it in!

Have a great day!

Boy is DH in for a surprise

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Not to long ago I ranted about DH eating everything I had planned for other meals. So tonight I tried out Rita's Meatloaf Twist. I must have measured something wrong but ended up with 22. So, I froze all but 8 of them. DH enjoyed the dinner and is happy that I am trying something new instead of the same old "healthy" stuff. After dinner I could see that he's already got it planned to clean out the left overs. He doesn't know about the ones in the freezer or that I planned it so he'd be able to eat all he wants later without messing up my meal plans for later in the week.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! He has a super large bowl of food to eat tonight and I have leftovers for when I actually want to use them.

He thinks I'm just smiling because I made something different and he enjoyed it!

    Bahahahaha, ROFLMBO!!!
I ended up with 18, so I'm not sure if I did something wrong. Although I do remember that my meat packages were less than what was called for. LOL.

Wasn't it absolutely yummy???????

    GOOD JOB!
You know, you COULD always PLAN "extra" food for him and just CALL it "leftovers" - you will think of it as a "matter of fact" seeing as he WILL clean it out!
You did GREAT!
emoticon
Glad you enjoyed the meal! (You probably didn't do anything "wrong" - I probably didn't measure SOMETHING in there exactly right ... emoticon)
Actually, I never thought that anyone would actually TRY my recipes when I posted them! LOL But, they ARE "tried and true"!

Varee, you are funny. I'm glad that you have some for you to eat later!!

I also ended up with 22. I don't think we measured wrong, just different measuring cups!! They do vary, even though they aren't suppose to!!

I am so glad that you enjoyed the meatloaf twist!!

Week 2 - Day 1

Monday, February 23, 2009

I am really looking forward to the end of this challenge, not so I can go back to old eating habits or so I can slack off on my exercise. What I am looking forward to is seeing if I'm below 190 on the scales and how many inches I've lost!
Today I seemed to be busy constantly, but this afternoon I put my foot down and told myself "Girl, If you don't get at your exercises now, you'll just think up more excuses NOT to do them later" So, I broke down & did my strength training video, then I spent the next 50 minutes doing walk/jog intervals for my cardio. Before my muscles realized what I had just done to them, I went to see what Maya's GOYB mini-challenge was for today, I didn't think I had the energy for it, but completed her challenge.

Tomorrow, I actually have to go out and do some work emoticon, but not until I check tracking numbers to be sure parts have been signed for (I'm not traveling 25 miles to find out they haven't gotten them yet) But I plan on having my cardio done before I leave, and I may try to get back to doing some of my pilates when I get home (depending on how long the jobs take while I'm out)

My goal is to continue to meet my goals for this challenge and continue to have faith that I'll have good results at the end.
