can work both ways.

Here I was trying to get myself to eat more fruits and veggies...especially the veggies.

It occurred to me to check out just what a serving of veggies is.

Turns out, a serving is smaller than I'd thought. I've been eating more veggies than I thought.

But still not nearly enough...

Why does Sparks Recipes not have a "low-sodium" diet selection? This seems a bit like a no-brainer.

I was searching recipes last night and found a few that would be considered very high in sodium, even for a perfectly healthy person.

I am getting the hang of watching for sodium myself (which is ironic, as I am actually low in sodium myself. What you do for love!) but I'm sure there are people who could use help. For myself, it would just make things a bit easier if I had some 'safe' recipes I didn't have to think about too much. You know, for THOSE days...

So, how 'bout it?

And can anyone help me to change the units on my weight ticker from kgs to lbs?

  Ah Thank you!

So I"m not alone in wanting a little help with the sodium thing? It's more for my dh. He really has difficulty keeping track of this sort of detail, but he really needs to...so I do it.

We like Asian food and I think it is probably near the top as far as high sodium. I'm looking for work-arounds! Low-sodium soy sauce is still not low-sodium!

And Exfitnessguru! The fix worked splendidly. Thank you. Suddenly my weight is down by more than half!

    I think I remember the weight ticker... Go to "My tools", then under "Start" and Welcome (with your name) is "Account/Email Preferences" , click on it, Scroll down to "My Information" and right above save and submit will say "use metric system". unclick it and then "save and submit... Hope this works. :)

    I have been reading a lot lately about how the government is going to start cracking down on food labels and companies and putting pressure on them to cut sodium - much like they did with the trans fat awareness. So many health problems could be avoided if people quit overloading their bodies with salt, it would save the healthcare industry and insurance companies millions if not more - which is why now suddenly the government cares I guess :) SO yes Sparks does need more lower sodium recipes.

    Here here! They should certainly consider adding a low sodium section! Salt is everywhere emoticon I'm not sure how to change the weight measurement though. I know they ask you when you start how you want to measure it but I haven't seen anywhere to change it since then. Good luck!

Getting there

Well, I just got home from an 'official' weigh-in...ie at my GP's office.

I have surpassed my 'mani-pedi' goal. A mani-pedi is my reward for getting past 180 lbs.

Next reward is @ 150. A new wardrobe...

While seeing the GP I see that my cholesterol count is on the edge...My HDL (the good one) is quite high. My LDL is not at 'high' but it's getting there.

I guess this will be my next project.

Yep. So my WII Fit lied to me. I have not lost any weight since my last 'official' weigh in.

I haven't gained any either, but still...

So, back to work.

Since I can only play with the WII when someone else is in the house (due to my persistent inability to follow the chain of steps required to set it up on the TV), I have come up with another do-it-yourself method.

My mum sent our little fellow a CD called "Twist and Shout" which is a kids exercsie routine. Very musical and catchy. And one hour long!

Can't do the whole thing...yet...but I can do half. With a dustrag in my hand, I am a regular dervish! Flylady on the fly!

Dh says to make sure the curtains are closed...

Yep - My Wii has lied to me a few times. I haven't used it in a while, as the children keep taking it away from me, for Their use!

I have some CD's from the Bell Man, Cast in Bronze, and I put them on when I need to get moving. It really works! They are bell music, really upbeat.

My hope is that soon I will again be able to walk outside. We still have a lot of snow.

Where are you in Africa? It is funny that as I read your comment I was already listening to an old Johnny Clegg and Juluka CD.

  Forget about the WII. It can be so cruel. I know. I stopped weighin in too often. My motto: just be active any way you like. I like your idea of the kids CD. These CD's are fun and get your mood up. Much more than any WII excercise does. Go for it girl! Somewhere around the world (I live in Africa) I am dancing on that new dance game my niece brought to play with me.. I am very glad to know I am not the only one who loves these fun things.

Determination while sick

I rather suddenly came down with a rotten cold over the weekend.

In the past, this usually means that all 'diet' cooking goes out the window as my energy and creativity levels plummet.

Now that we've been doing Sparks for a while, and have slowly eliminated from our larder foods that we shouldn't be eating, it is getting much easier to keep cooking on track...even the day before shopping day!

Of course it helps that chicken breast and leafy greens are really easy to do something decent with!

I have not exercised either. Hard to do when you cannot breath!

Unfortunately this also means that my little guy does not hit the gym either, because he must be supervised.

    Good job - I too have been sick for a few days and although my eating has stayed pretty much on track I have not exercised at all! I was on a pretty good streak before getting sick. Last night as I was going to bed I was really feeling pretty miserable about myself - your blog has helped me to focus on what I've done RIGHT rather than only thinking of what I've let go...
