Prednisone and Weight Loss

Thursday, June 28, 2012

About a month ago I was in a car accident and was given a course of Prednisone. I have been reasonably good with my food and fitness given the circumstances. (I couldn't cook for 3 weeks and had to rely on the generosity of my church family)
Now I am off all medication and back to a good routine but I am concerned about the side effects causing me to gain weight or not not lose weight.

I am burning 3,500 in cardio every week, but not ready to add strength training yet. I am 10 pounds from my goal.

Do I need to increase my cardio?
How long does it take for the medication to be out of my system?
Any advice anyone?

I want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers always, please know that in spite of my absence of late you are never forgotten but always held close to my heart in prayer. We have been going through a heat wave here and I have had my grandkids here more than usual. Next week they are with me for 4 days.. You are doing great, wow, burning 3500 calories in cardio per week & 10 pounds off your weight goal, now that's impressive. emoticon emoticon Yes emoticon Together. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Predinose and most steriods take 6 months to get out of your system . Keep your workouts the same and sadly, let nature run its course.

I had steriod shots 2-4 times a year due to a car accident and it just seemed forver to get out of my system

Same Road Again

Saturday, June 16, 2012

I jut can't seem to stay on track. I haven't lost any weight in about 6 weeks. I had a big birthday party, lots of visitors and a bad car accident, but still. I just need a kick in the pants.
I ask myself what is the payoff for my current behavior? I am not happy at this weight I have everything to gain, especially when I cross into the 120's.

I am exercising, but not going all out. I am eating ok, but could do better.

Kind of Down on Myself

Monday, May 21, 2012

I really wanted to be at my goal this week, but I didn't make it. Of course the fault is mine.
1. I ate things that I shouldn't.
2.I allowed myself to watch telly when I could have taken a walk.
3. I let people talk me into eating things that weren't good for me.
4. I didn't plan my meals at the weekends.

I have much to be thankful for.
1. Compared to many I don't have much to lose.
2. Although I lose weight slowly, I am still getting it off faster than I put it on.
3. Getting back to good exercise habits is so invigorating.
4. I hope I have learned my lesson to stop putting my priorities behind every other priority. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Is Party Pigging Out Really Optional?

Thursday, May 10, 2012

It really is a struggle for me to go to occasions where food is served. Eating at a restaurant is somewhat manageable. But the happy grazing that goes on while schmoozing really is so hard for me. The canapés and other delights just catch the corner of my eye and then I'm hooked. Listening to funny stories or even sharing my own anecdotes just go so well with a delectable snack in hand. It just makes my evening complete.
I have heard people who have stopped smoking talk about how they miss the physical act of lighting up after a meal or with a drink and I think I have the same sort of 'comfort memory' addiction.

As a public speaker I get a kick out of being the life and soul of the party. I draw energy from anticipating such events. I don't want to avoid them all together, but I haven't lost weight in 2 weeks because these parties keep popping up.

Help!

Dinner Time With Guests

Wednesday, May 09, 2012

I love entertaining, I truly find it entertains me and hopefully my guests too. My job involves a lot of events that involve food. I rushed home from the school run started dinner and rushed out to a 2 hour meeting and forgot to tell my daughter to turn off the stove. By the time I got home the meat was a little scorched. I hate wasting food so I thought well I can just nibble the good bits and throw out the rest. I RESISTED!
I hastily cooked more meat and thankfully my guests were late. I was SO HUNGRY. I could barely wait until they arrived and oh the food smelled so good.
My 2 lovely guests are both slender and took what they wanted and throughly enjoyed it. They both took small helpings of seconds. I managed to eat my portion and enjoy it and had a little bit of half fat ice cream.
This is my first time that having dinner guests didn't throw me off my meal plan.
This is the first time I am not dreading the scales after eating with friends!
