Life goes on....

Friday, April 25, 2014

Itís late April now and Iím grateful the weather is getting warmer. Life is settling down a bit since my stepdad died and my mom is starting to get her bearings back. Weíve spent a lot of time with her going up every other weekend for awhile. Sheís had a few firsts to get through without him, first Valentines, her birthday, his birthday, Easter; but sheís getting there and weíre grateful sheís doing okay. I still call her often but itís not every day anymore; now I call every other day and she sounds happier most days.

My daughter recovered from surgery but broke her foot one night on her way to the bathroom. She missed the bottom step and tumbled. Poor girl just canít seem to get a break but sheís in a walking cast now and out looking for a job againÖ

My health is okay. Iíve lost a few pounds in spite of not logging exercise or food but Iíve still got a ways to go. I have my good days and bad days with pain but itís all tolerable. Iím walking a lot so the hips are protesting (arthritis) but it helps and if itís really bad, I take some painkillers at night. Iím taking way less than I used to and go for days without taking anything so Iím really happy. I heard about a supplement (?) called D Ribose that I get at a health food store. It helps with the energy level and fibromyalgia pain and as long as I stay away from salt, Iím doing okay.

Thank you to all my spark friends for all the support you have shown me. It has really helped to know that Iím not alone and there is a place I can go to just vent and let go.

Life is good. Iím so happy the weather is getting warmer. Iím hoping weíve seen the last of snow until next winter and am looking forward to getting back out into my garden.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Easter and that life is treating you well.

Hugs all

    Hi Ush,

You, your family and your mother sure have been through a tough time. I am sure your support would have helped your mother a great deal - you are a wonderful daughter doing all that you can for her. I hope your mother continues to feel better, and also that your daughter heals soon - and that everything goes better for her too!

You've done well to shed a few pounds - good for you, that's great. It sounds like you are managing your pain well too despite the arthritis and fibromyalgia. Please feel free to blog, vent and ask for support whenever you need well as the tracking and health related help on the Spark site, support through Spark friends is also a very important part, so we are here for you.

Thanks for asking about me and letting me know about the D Ribose. I haven't heard of it, but will look into it. I am getting out a bit more (meeting up with friends now and then, and a bit of shopping as I can) which is a big improvement from last year. I'm still dealing with pain after any outing, and need to up my painkillers to get out of the house, though getting out equates to a better quality of life for me. Still have issues with clothing, and other aspects of daily life... As my GP says, it can eel like 2 steps forward and 1.5 steps back...but even that is better than nothing.

Sending big hugs your way, Nattacia

Life rant

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

Gosh life can sometimes get in the way of exercising... got diagnosed recently with fibromayalgia. Apparently went through a flare which knocked the stuffing out of me, after a year of being treated with dementia, turns out my stepfather did not have dementia but rather cirrhosis and encephalopathy. He landed in hospital a week before my husband and I went to Mexico (with my husband's sister and brother in law), my stepfather died the day we got back, my stepsibs have caused all manner of grief for my mom in the meantime but it seems to have settled down somewhat thank goodness. She lives 2 hrs away so it's hard for us to get there frequently but we try to go as often as we can and I call every day.. My daughter had a hysterectomy and I had a minor procedure done and now...well I'm ready for some stability in my life right about now. I have a head cold now after managing to stay healthy throughout the worst of the winter.. and frankly I'm sick to death of snow... sigh.

On the brighter side.. the pain is getting better.. I tried Lyrica but it didn't do much so I stopped using it. I'm exercising and trying to cut the salt out as it seems to cause pain and so far, while the pain is not perfect, it's much better and I don't take as many pain killers.

I have many blessings to be grateful for and I count them every day. IN spite of the craziness over the last few months, life is good and getting better all the time. It's one day closer to retirement!.. lol (4 yrs away still... it's going to be a lot of counting.. lol).

Have a great day all

    Hi Ush,

I don't know how I missed your blog...seems I didn't get a lot of notifications for a while, so this must have included yours.
Life has thrown you plenty of challenges - you've had a lot to deal with. Condolences on your stepfather's passing. I hope your daughter and mother are doing okay now. I empathise with the chronic pain of fibromyalgia; it's great that the pain is getting better and you've been able to exercise and can take less pain killers. I am taking Lyrica and though some of the pain is a little bit better, I still have a long way to go - though any improvement is a blessing. I hope everything keeps getting better for you. Take care.

Big hugs, Nattacia

I have seen people on the Net talk about how certain foods can trigger an attack. I hope you and your doctor get it all ironed out soon. you are going through so much right now. I hope you can still exercise like you want.

It's Thanksgiving this weekend... for us Canadians that is... and I've so much to be grateful for...
My family... my friends... a strong relationship with my daughter, son in law and grandkids.. the best husband ever ... a job I love... a supportive work environment.... reasonably decent health ... I recovered from the complications after my day surgery in Dec.... the roof over my head... I am so blessed to live here in Canada....

My heart and prayers go out to all those in need whether it be hunger, a roof, peace, love, I hope and pray, they are able to find their way towards fulfillment of those needs.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Canadians.

Busy weekends, reno's and work outs

Monday, October 07, 2013

I love the results of a reno.. there's nothing like a fresh coat of paint and a new look to make you feel great but the journey there is such a disruption!

My husband is putting in hardwood floors in our bedroom and because I made a bad choice in paint 6 yrs ago, we're paying for it now. I decided back then I really like the Venetian plaster look and I swore up down and sideways to my husband I'd not get sick of it. He'd already had experience with it and knew how hard it would be to get off the walls. Well, six years later I'm sick of it not to mention I feel the bedroom was too dark and I figured while he's doing the floors, he could also do the walls... poor man. It took him four days to sand the walls down and clean all the dust. The room is finally repainted and he's starting on the floors.

It feels like even such a small reno has taken over our lives! While he does that, we have to sleep on the sofa couch in the spare room.. omg it's uncomfortable and I've never been so achy in my life... I just don't have the energy to do workouts... but also in the mix is that while I would do my workouts, Dave would normally make dinner. Well, now his priority is getting the room done before thanksgiving.... so if I want to fit in a workout, it means we'll have a late dinner... now eating at 7:30 or 8pm might be okay for some, it's not good for me because I want to lose weight and I go to bed at 9:30pm.... I get up at 4:45 to get ready for work and leave on the 6am train.. it's a long commute to work and I don't generally get home before 5:30 pm... sigh...

It also means that I do all the housework now... on the weekend it was grocery shopping (3 stores), a trip to Costco, five loads of laundry, clean the kitchen, living room and bathroom as everything else is not accessible, did some gardening, painted the trim, did all the cooking, loaded and unloaded the dishwasher umpteen times etch etc... lol.. wow... I was bagged by the end of the weekend and looking forward to coming to work! That's a baaaaaaaaaad sign..l ol

To top it all off?!.... my clothing is everywhere.... trying to find everything is like a treasure hunt every day!... lol... I have to get my stuff ready the night before because some of it is hanging in the kids room (this room is the one that was reno'd for our grandkids when they stay over) and some of it is in the dresser drawers stacked up in the dining room and some is in the drawers stacked up in the living room.... the dining room table has stuff stacked on it from our bedroom and it seems the bed room has spilled over into everything... the downstairs family room where we normally entertain when the whole family comes over (brothers, sister, kids etc), has the tables set up but there is plastic covering the tables and drying trim from the bedroom....

Only two workouts last week and likely this week won't be much better.... will have to be rigorous about maintaining my caloric intake.. while I may not lose weight at least I wouldn't gain any....sigh....

Am soooooooooo looking forward to this reno being done.... emoticon

But you know... even though I hate the process, I am lucky to have a great husband who did not get angry at me for wanting a new lighter colour on the walls (although he did tell me he'd not allow me any more textures on the walls... lol) and we have a home to reno.... not everyone is so lucky... to have the ability to complain about it is a strong reminder to me of how blessed I am. Now it's off to work I get!

Have a great day everyone

Ah, yes, renos - Right up there with ballroom dance lessons as a relationship test! Looks like you're doing fine, Ush, especially as the end seems in sight & you'll have a beautiful "new" room to enjoy. We're looking forward to painting the porch entry, mudroom and freezer/storage room soon...'nuff said!

Weddings and shopping

Monday, September 16, 2013

Well my husband's nephew's wedding is fast approaching (Saturday) and I had found the perfect dress and now am finding out not only is the service outside but the reception is going to be held outside too and it's further north than we are.....BRRRRRRRR.....but now I have to go out and buy a pair of dressy pants and a dressy top... I have some dress pants but their more for work and my dressy tops are all basically reminiscent of Christmas or New Years....
Normally I'd be quite happy to go shopping again but I've less than a week and I get home often just before the shops close... AND I still need to get my hair cut and eyebrows waxed etc etc... finding the time is going to be kind of like playing twister... lol...

Life could be worse.... emoticon

Do you have a cute shawl or jacket that you could wear over it? If not, good luck shopping! And have a great time at the wedding!
