Time to DO this!

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Wow! I have been away WAAAAY too long. I had a hard time finding my spark page, and remembering how to add a blog. Long story short, we've been living through construction in our house for almost the last year. It's finally all finished, and we're moved in upstairs. The process was stressful, and I didn't workout enough, was too busy dealing with all the "people" coming and going all day, every day, and I was eating my way through the stress. Now it's completed, and we have some nice space to enjoy.

I had my 20 year high school reunion a few weeks ago. It was wonderful to see everyone, and I had a great time. But, I couldn't help feeling like this chubby high school girl just got fatter in the last 20 years, and I'm regretting that I didn't get my behind in gear sooner.

Then, this week, I finally feel like I'm starting to get my mojo back, and our dog died on Tuesday. :( To top it all off, my "babies" started kindergarten yesterday.

Some "me" time is long overdue, and it's time to use it to get back on track. It was depressing looking at some of the dates on my spark page, and being reminded of how long I have been yo-yoing. Kindergarten is full day, so I have 6 hours of "alone" time during the day, and much of it needs to be filled with exercise and healthy eating. Time to get back on the wagon and kick those pounds to the curb, once and for all. No more regrets, no more "tomorrow"s... time to get in gear today!

A Standing Ovation???

Thursday, September 24, 2009

So, I decided to restart Couch to 5K. I've been jogging for the last several months, just not with a lot of structure or direction....relying more on my heartrate monitor, and less on the time/distance. I've decided that I really do want to finish this out, and push myself past the illusive "28 minute" mark. And, since I'm SO slow, 28 minutes isn't even CLOSE to 5K. My sister in law is planning to do the "Turkey Trot" 5K in November, and I'm really going to make a real effort to finish the 9 week program, and keep training, so I can finish it with her...even if it takes me an hour....lol.

So, I took a new route on my jog this morning, and the strangest thing happened...I passed by a cute little old lady who was sitting in a chair on her front lawn, reading the paper and drinking a cup of coffee. As I jogged by, she stood up and clapped!!! How weird is that. I looked around, confused, and she just smiled at me, and gave me a thumbs up. Maybe I should go past her house everyday... definitely gave me the motivation to keep on going!

I am so proud of you. Running is not easy. It takes a lot of dedication to gain the endurance to run three miles. I know you gan do it. Oh and by the way, running can get addicting so beware.

That is neat! You can do this -- you encouraged me and I'm right here for you too. You can't see me right now but I am standing up in my office giving you a standing ovation too. Keep it up!

Oh, that's so awesome of her to encourage you like that. Something like that happening to me would just make my day.

6:45AM

Thursday, July 02, 2009

Yes, that's what time I started my workout this morning! For the second time this week, I got up with DH's alarm, and was able to go out and get in a 28 minute jog, and be back here so he could leave for work. The REALLY strange thing? I've ENJOYED it! I enjoy that I don't have to try to figure out how I'm going to fit in my exercise for the day, or putz around with a second shower after an evening workout, or have to park the boys in front of the TV so they don't play around with the equipment while I'm on the elliptical. Oh, and it's cooler in the morning, too. The AM workout just seems to make everything SO much easier. I've never been a morning person, not that 6:45 is early, but it's early for me to be doing something besides pouring cereal or reading the paper. Going to try to continue it, at least a few days a week.

Wish I could get myself going in the morning...Good for you! Looks like you jogged a pretty good distance too from your page update. I bought running shoes and walking shoes but so far only walking. I just wanted to have the running shoes so that when I was ready they were there. Something to look forward to (never thought I would say that about running). How long were you exercising before you were able to go from walk to run? I am walking at 3.5 now on the treadmill, but not ready to crank it up yet...

I have always been a morning workout person. I've gotten up as early as 3:30 if I have to be at work real early. If I don't work out in the morning it doesn't get done. You're right it is more enjoyable when you do it first thing. Keep it up! It'll be a habit before you know it.

I still hate shopping

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

I've always hated clothes shopping. I've never been a "girly" girl, and just can't get into shopping. I like to shop for other people... like the kids, or my husband, or for things for the house. I just don't like clothes shopping. And, down 43 pounds, I still don't like it. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled that I can buy clothes in the "regular" section of the store now, instead of in the "plus" section. I just hate the whole process of trying things on.
I've been putting off shopping for a while now. But, it's getting warmer, and I have about 2 pairs of shorts that fit well enough to leave the house in, and neither of them really fit. Let's face it, if you can take your jean shorts off without having to unbutton or unzip them, then it's time to go shopping.

So, I braved Walmart on a Wednesday night. I refuse to spend a lot of money on "in between" clothes, that hopefully won't fit for very long, so Walmart seemed like a good idea. Well, somehow it seems that I've lost all 43 pounds from my a$$, cause I tried on XL shirts that were too small, and yet I was able to squeeze into a size 10 shorts. I don't get it. Another reason I hate shopping... the inconsistent sizing. Apparently, now I can wear anything from a 10 to an 18, depending on the brand, style, cut, etc. It's ridiculous.

So, I come out of the dressing room, with a pair of jean shorts, a pair of denim capris, a pair of workout shorts, and a pair of workout capris, figuring, that's good enough for one shopping trip. The employee in charge of the dressing rooms starts in on me because I have 11 things, and the limit is 6. Well, the girl who was there when I went in, said it was okay. She points to the sign. Well, what did she think I was going to do, go back and start over with 6?. Another reason I hate shopping...moronic staff.

I start to look around for my cart, WHICH HAD OTHER THINGS IN IT ALREADY... clothes for the boys, some new underwear that it took a while to pick out, socks, some bubble bath, etc. I'm looking all over, and I can't find it anywhere. She sees me looking around, and says, "there's an empty cart right there." Yeah, that's fantastic, except mine ALREADY HAD STUFF IN IT. So, I looked everywhere, and finally had to get an empty cart, and then go back around the rest of the store to gather up all my other items. Another reason I hate shopping.

On the bright side... I got some new shorts, that fit!

Don't you wonder what the cart stealer is wondering as he/she is checking out at the end of their shopping trip? Doh.

I totally agree with you on shopping at certain stores, really I do. I don't shop at WalMart, but I've been to Target, Meijer...same thing. I've never lost a cart (and so lost minutes of shopping as you have to go get the same stuff AGAIN) though. What IS with the sizing? The cheaper stores tend to use less fabric so we might wear "bigger" sizes, while places like Banana Republic size down. I'll wear a 10 at WalMart and a 4 at Banana Rep. It is nuts.

I have to go to buy the dreaded swim suit today. Think I'll start at Kohl's...

I feel your pain. What gets me is when I read here on sparks or in magazines that these women wear a couple of sizes smaller than me but weigh more. I know height is a factor but I'm 5 foot seven inches! I have been trying to focus on the positive and you should too. What I do is once I wear something I cut the size out. It works for me. I hate shopping too. Have you ever bought the same style pants in the same sizes but different colors and they don't fit the same? I know than it's not me. Hang in there. No matter what size you wear you've lost 43 lbs and look fantastic. You have been one of the people I've come to admire on Sparks. emoticon

A great week!

Saturday, June 06, 2009

So, this has been the best week I've had in a very long time. It's the last week of a challenge on one of my teams, and the first week of a challenge on another.
Some positives this week....
* lost 2.8 pounds (haven't lost more than a fraction of a pound at a time in months)
* completed Couch to 5K week 6 (25 minutes of nonstop jogging today)
* actually did 3 free weight workouts this week.
* had a fruit/veggie at every meal and had at least 5 everyday.
* was in protein and fiber range everyday.

Maybe these are the keys to getting the scale moving. Now, I will try to follow these points this week, because I know my challenge will be to keep off those 2.8 pounds this week, and hopefully shave off some more.

I also realized that I met one of my "medium term goals" this week, which was to jog a mile nonstop. Well, I jogged more than that... it actually calculated to be almost 2 miles.

One of my "long term goals" was to jog for 30 minutes nonstop. If I continue to follow Couch to 5K (and that is my plan) then I should meet that goal next weekend. Then, I will change my goal to participating in an organized 5K. Woo Hoo!

I'm just so excited to finally start to see some signs of progress again... just have to keep that momentum and motivation going...

I'm so happy for you and your C25K progress! I remember starting last summer having to walk then jog then walk then jog...it was ages until I could actually jog a whole mile without walking...and tomorrow I'm going to try to jog 7 miles nonstop! You'll get there, I know, because you want to. Please let me know if you're doing a 5K, when and where. I'd love to be there to see it and cheer you on if I can!

GOOD WORK! (and it IS work)

Yeah you! I am still the same this week despite exercising and being within my calorie count. It's the little things along with eating right and exercising that do it. Good for you! Proud of you -- with your little guys I don't know how you do it! emoticon

Congratulations! I'm so impressed with your running. I can only do a couple of minutes before my bladder gives out -- the price of having a 9 1/2 pound baby! (oops -- is that too much informarion?) Keep up the good work!
