Starting to Get the Hang of This

Weeks ago I would eat whenever I was hungry. What I was eating, I don't know. Bags of candy for starters. Now, I have been on the diet for one week - yeah! And I am still hungry in between meals, mostly in the afternoon, but I am starting to get the hang of this "dieting" thing we are all doing here.

    Congratulations on a successful week!

In theory, it's best to eat every 2 hours. It's good that you're hungry! It means your metabolism is working.

I keep little light snacks laying around for when I need to feed between meals. An apple or a small bag of trail mix (watch the sodium and sugar in some of them though) always works for me!

Now is my Time

Its amazing what sort of summer I had this year. It was filled with a fun trip to Disneyland, and lots of health problems. I have been dealing with Migraines and Heartburn, which led to Stomach Ulcers, which led to Depression and more Migraines.

I recently hit my low-point this past week, where I spent an entire day complaining and crying out all the pain. All the Negative Comments I had about my body size and how I feel lazy all the time; I got it all out.

Today, Now, and in the Future: I want to stop the negativity, the pain, and the complaints about my body size. Now is my time to be happy about my life because I am Choosing to Eat Right, Exercise, and Socialize More.

Now is my Time to Make a Difference in my Life. emoticon

    Take each day as it comes. Don't worry about the past. Start today like it's the first day of the rest of your life. You can overcome all those negative thoughts.

Sickness Can Happen

Today is August 2, and I have been on the diet for approximately 2 weeks. Last week I got sick and was on bed-rest for 4 days while only drinking fluids. I was not able to weigh myself so I am not sure how much weight I dropped last week.

Since starting the program, I have lost 5 pounds. Yeah!

I am not able to exercise right now, due to my getting sick, so I can't track my fitness. But I have been counting calories like crazy! When I am away from the computer, I remember that 500 calories per meal is my absolute maximum, and have noticed that I eat approximately 330-400 calories per meal, which is great. When I first started tracking my calorie intake, I was eating 650+ calories a meal, so I am definitely eating less now.

Today I officially started my new diet. I joined Spark People about 1 week ago to get familiar with all the amazing tools and fun stuff. For now I am tracking what I eat, but I hope to actually plan my meals for the week starting in August.

My family of 3 is filled with very picky eaters. So I told my fiance that I will always have spaghetti and meatballs on hand for him, and our daughter pretty much eats anything, as long as you can add a little spice to it. For myself, I love veggies and I need it bland. Maybe some parsley or oregano or basil, sometimes.

I measured my body today, which was a first. Just as I suspected, my arms are in good shape. I had my daughter take pictures of my body - the way I look completely relaxed (yikes!) versus the way other people see me (my belly is held in).

About 2 years ago I had a terrible injury that caused me to be on crutches for almost 9 months while my driving leg healed. I think it may have been during that time when I put on the extra 25-30 pounds. I was in so much pain and was finishing college, so my stress levels were high.

My problem with eating has not always been about junk food, cake or sweets. I only crave chocolate about once a month, and I don't like cake. So my overeating has always been of crackers, vegetables or chicken. I eat big portions when I should be paying more attention to my intake.
