Hogwarts Yule Ball

Wednesday, December 11, 2013

I'm back at Hogwarts for Winter Term, and I'm so excited that I came back in time for the Yule Ball!

Here's what I'm going to be wearing:

I wanted to wear a Regency-style dress, but I couldn't find one in a color I liked. They really weren't all that into bright colors back then, I guess. Anyway, this is my new choice and I love it.

I'm short so I wanted a bit of a heel, but not much if there's going to be lots of dancing!

I did choose a Regency hairstyle, though! And I went with yellow jewelry as a nod to my current house, Hufflepuff!

And finally, here's my date:

His name is Josh, and he goes to one of the wizarding schools in America. I met him in Flourish and Blotts while he was on vacation with his family. He's so sweet and I can't wait for everyone to meet him!

Anastasia, I love the dress and shoes. Will that be your colors? I think you'll dance the night away with your dreamy guy too!! Love the topaz or amber jewelry, or am I looking a yellow diamonds?!! ::swoon:: Regency is sooo romantic and I hope your wizard reads you a bit of that kind of poetry from his Flourish and Blotts of ancient Greek poetry:

"I run to you as the traveller runs towards shade when scorched by the sun"

or... perhaps ancient Egyptian...

To hear your voice is pomegranate wine to me:
I draw life from hearing it.
Could I see you with every glance,
It would be better for me
Than to eat or to drink.

or Roman:

Thus it will be; slender arrows are lodged in my heart,
and Love vexes the chest that it has seized
Shall I surrender or stir up the sudden flame by fighting it?
I will surrender - a burden becomes light when it is carried willingly.

BLC 21 Weekend Challenge - AIM HIGH

Friday, February 15, 2013

Part of our weekend challenge is to post a blog each day with a positive thought about ourselves. I don't like writing short blog posts, so I think I will just end up editing this one every day. But that's not really important!

Friday: I do not look like I weigh what I do. I'm not sure if that's a *good* thing, but for me it is definitely positive. I consider myself lucky that at just over 200 pounds, I don't look like I belong on The Biggest Loser. Maybe it contributed to my weight gain, but maybe it didn't. But I think I would be way more depressed about the situation if I looked 200 pounds. So hooray for the good genes or whatever causes this phenomenon!

Saturday: I am a very fast reader. I love this about myself. I enjoy being able to get through books in much less time than it takes other people. Not because it makes me feel superior to others, but because I just love to read and if I were a slower reader, I wouldn't get through even half of the books I want to read in my lifetime. Reading makes me really happy, and I'm grateful that I have the ability to do it.

Sunday: I have a good memory. I've always been able to memorize songs and movie quotes quickly and easily. Which is all well and good for fun things. It also comes in handy at work when I have to learn new techniques. It definitely made school 100% less stressful.

Letter to Myself

Monday, January 28, 2013

Dear Post BLC 21 Anastasia,

Right now I am almost two weeks into this round of the BLC. You may remember that your first week was great. You were motivated. You exercised. You tracked everything, even if you didn't count the calories some days. You drank water. And it paid off.

The second week - not going so great. I sneaked a peek at the scale this morning and was surprised to see that I stayed basically the same despite a poor weekend. Yet that wasn't enough to keep me from making poor dinner choices.

But I know I can do this. And ten weeks from now, when you're reading this, I know I made my goal. I don't know how I did it, but somehow I become you. And you are wonderful.

So remember this. You did great this round, making it under 200 pounds. But you have a long way to go. Every time you get discouraged, remember how this feels and don't give up!

Question about Sam's Club - Anybody?

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

I am contemplating purchasing a Sam's Club membership. I'm asking anyone who has/had one if you think it's worth the cost? From what I can see of the prices online, some things are cheaper and others aren't. Thus, I'm torn.

Anybody have any thoughts on the matter?

We've been members for about a year and I think it is worth the cost of the membership. Not quite as nice and friendly as Costco, but the prices are very comparable.

i love my membership. I don't go very often ,but I buy for the whole YEAR of paper towels and TP and Napkins and Laundry detergent. I use my tax return and it keeps me out of walmart and spending 50.00 when i only went for TP!! So it saves me lots of money...Plus my boss just bought a whole case of chicken breasts and it was only 10.00 for around 20 chicken breasts!!

I have a Sam's club membership and I love it! Their food is better than some stores and fresher. Also, you can buy house essentials in bulk which if you have room to store it you will save money (i.e. paper towels). Also, they have great fruit and special items such as rotisserie chicken, soups, sushi, etc. You can also get a lot of freezer stuff which you can store for a long time like chicken breasts, fish, veggies, etc. They also sell clothes and shoes and books and DVDs. I can go on and on because I just love that place!

Is there someone else you could share a membership with? You can put 2 people on and then you could split the big packs of paper towels etc. I have a list that I buy at Sams always. Spinach, milk, almonds, coffee, paper towel, tp, dog food!!, cat food, tuna. You just can't get sucked in by the items that you don't need.

If you have the space to buy things in bulk, then yes, go for it! I'm talking detergents, paper towels, toilet paper, cans and cans of tomatoes and beans, deodorant, FLOSS (so cheap at Sams!), bulk in some medicines. It's great!

Definitely good buys on glasses and car stuff - I love their workout clothing and get great deals on Levi's. Christmas decorations and gifts are at great prices, too, as are other holiday items. Books, movies, TV's, batteries, etc are usually lower than elsewhere. Food - you can't use coupons, but canned goods and boxed items (mac-n-cheese) come in packs and are usually cheaper than a grocery store - unless you buy generic. Sam's does have a few things in their brand that is cheaper than name brand, though. Of course you wouldn't want 50 lbs of flour or sugar, but 8 cans of something you like would be a good buy.
They used to let you go in and look around to see if you want to purchase a membership - that might be a good idea for you. Just take a list of prices that you normally buy - or your smart phone. :-)

For one person in an apartment I don't think it would make sense. You will need to buy huge quantities of most things. And yes, somethings are cheaper (cheese is a great deal, but do you want that much cheese?) others not so much. I have been less than impressed with the produce. Except I would buy veggie and fruit trays for work a lot. Those were a great deal.

Have you tried going on a tour to decide?

BEBOP4ME 10/23/2012 3:53PM

You are correct in that some things are a good deal and some things aren't. We used to get the membership at discount, but don't anymore. So here is what justified the membership for me: I could get glasses and contacts cheaper at Sams Club than any other store. That alone paid for the membership. Also, my husband felt their car batteries and tires were a good deal compared to most other places. If you are just going for good deals on food, I don't know if you can justify the cost. Better to find a friend that has a card and go there occasionally.

Mid-Round Assessment - BLC 20

Monday, October 22, 2012

So, part of the weekend challenge is to reassess our goals that we posted at the beginning of the round. I'm unsurprised to find out that I haven't accomplished a single one of them.

Fitness: Goals were to incorporate a regular ST program and work up to a full hour of Tae Bo. I've done neither.

Nutrition: Goals were to cut back on evening snacking, try new recipes and start grocery shopping with a list. My evening snacking has gotten worse and the only time I shopped with a list was when I had a recipe to make for a potluck at work. And I haven't cooked a serious meal in weeks.

Wellness: Goal was to spend less time on the internet. Complete and total fail.

Rewards: Well, I have refined my rewards scale, but I haven't earned any.

I'm not really sure I can even muster up a decent excuse as to why I haven't achieved anything so far this round. Moving forward, I will keep my goals the same, with the exception of my weight loss goal. New goal weight for this round is 189. That's about 10 pounds. I wouldn't set it so high except I'm pretty sure if I get myself back in the habit of drinking the right amount of water, I'll lose about four or five pounds pretty quickly.

It isn't October anymore and it isn't midpoint but as leaders (Annie and Charity), you can now look back and reassess and you know a FEW reasons after rounds of doing this and know what happens and maybe refocus and ensure that you make time for YOU and YOUR journey too. It is a difficult balancing act for sure!

And Annie, you are heavily involved in at least two MAJOR challenges which pulls you in many directions.

Raise a glass to yourself and know that you did a GREAT job! emoticon
