Starting to track my meals

Wednesday, July 16, 2008

That is my wonderful step-daughter Bridget helping her dachsie, Murphy, with his CPR practice! I don't think she knows just how incredibly much I love her or how proud I am to be her step-mom. She is very smart, funny, pretty, witty, and all-around great to know! (She's a lot like her dad, TFG, and her mom that way!)

I have started tracking my food, and let me tell ya, it's making a difference! I had no idea how far under I was with my calories. Not eating enough is a major reason a lot of dieters can't seem to lose the weight they want. It seems logical to cut back on your intake to lose weight, but if you cut back too far, your body goes into starvation mode and hoards what you do eat. That is apparently part of my problem. Another trend I have is to not eat enough protein and way too many carbs. Even though the carbs are mostly good ones, that still means what I don't use gets turned into more fat for me to fight with.

It's just so hard to eat right when you are at work, or at least that is the mind-set that I have developed over years of working places where refrigerator space is at a premium. Most of the things that can stay out of the fridge that I am used to eating have too much salt or fat, like nuts or jerky. TFG is helping me, though, so I am slowly making the changes. Hurray for TFG!!

Here he is, as a matter of fact, so off I go to hug my honey! Everyone keep up the good work!

That picture is so funny. Always good to have someone close by who can do CPR emoticon

I have found that keeping up with my food tracker helps to keep me more accountable. I have the same problem with carbs - if they would just stop calling out to me! Can you bring fresh fruit to work? Pumpkin seeds? (Kind of 'nutty' without all the fat; I like the pepitas)

Keep up the good work!

Tracking my food has helped me in oh so many ways! Good luck with your food planning! Love the picture, I used to have a dachs hound when I grew up.

Hello Love of my life! I'm glad you are finally coming around as far as the tracking thing goes. It really isn't possible to find the mistakes in your eating until you look at what you are taking in.

I believe in you and I know you can do this.

I love you!

Tracking my food

Saturday, July 12, 2008

I haven't been up on Spark in a long time. I fell and bruised my patella and the top of my shin-bone, and let me tell ya, that HURTS! Needless to say, I didn't get to do much of anything as far as exercise, so I got really discouraged. Then I tripped over one of the cats, twisting my back, but you will all be happy to learn that the cat is just fine! As I lay on the bed yelping, she jumped up to say 'While you're there doing nothing, how about petting me? And what are you carrying on about? I'm fine!"

I am losing weight in spite of these setbacks, but it's been really slow! So TokenFatGuy, my wonderful, loving, buff husband has been gently prodding me to keep track of what I eat to speed up the weight-loss process, and he has finally gotten through to me. I did lose more weight when I was tracking what I ate, and since I am taking my lunch to work, that makes it even easier.

I know that this isn't nearly as entertaining as his writing, but you try being funny on command with muscle relaxants in you! Go critique someone else! lol =^..^=

Definitely NOT my dogs! My cats would eat them! We had a whippet, but sadly she is not with us any more, and I think the kitty-girls would prefer we adopt another quiet dog big enough for them to lay on. We are going to go to the pound to check out an older one-eyed boxer we met at TFG's last race while ACC was out there.

And I want to thank EVERYONE for being so darned supportive! It really means a lot to me.

Actually I thought your blog was amusing. (The part about don't worry the cat is okay). The animals are always fine when you trip over them, but in am effort to avoid them we usually get hurt. lol

But your husbands blogs are pretty amusing and inspiring, congrats to you both!!

Take care Kathy

Man, your list of injuries sounds like a day in my life. Hard to explain, yet painful and requires recovery time. Yikes.

Congrats on those 10 pounds - woohoo! Keep up the fantastic work. Let SP and those fabulous tools work for ya. You go, girl!

Cute animals, so glad the cat wasn't hurt! LOL!

Tracking really makes all the difference to me - it's motivating and illuminating and really rather embarrassing some days, but it keeps me on my toes!

It's so great that you're both in this together supporting each other. I'm trying to spread my Spark to my dearest too, and he's curious about it, so we shall see...

LOL, trust me NOBODY is critiquing you here! Sounds and looks like you one heck of an animal lover like us here. The pic is helarious! Its awesome that your husband is supporting you! My husband lovingly supports me until I have a weak moment, then he runs and buys whatever I'm weak for!! LOL! Its an uphill battle here, and I get tired...lol. Cranky too...lol. I hope your feeling better soon, and maybe you can ask your hubby to talk to my hubby? LOL! emoticon I'm lucky if I can get the man to go for a walk! Take care, Margaret
