Keeping the Faith on a Lazy Day

Two hours of boxing yesterday really seemed to mess up my body, but I didn't realize it until I got home and in bed. Granted, I was destined to be sore, but last night I woke up just dying for water and couldn't get back to sleep for two hours and today my stomach was constantly hungry (nope, I'm not mistaking thrist for hunger) and yet it was constantly in discomfort. Nothing I seemed to do helped and as I got more and more stressed about the whole thing, I got a bad headache.

HOWEVER, through all the gritty issues of the last 24 hours, I did realize that I'm making good decisions, even when I have a tendency to 'graze' all day and curl up in bed for the times I'm not in the kitchen and that the amount of ibuprofen that it requires me to kick a nasty headache is drastically reduced when I increase my water intake. Thusly, today was actually a GOOD day and I definitely have faith that I've created some better eating habits already. I survived four hours of 'bad for you' and 'I don't want to do anything' pizza cravings and my dreaded 'choco-holic pancake'craving, so I'm going to bed with a smile on my face tonight... and I'll be picking up Red Baron single serving pizzas at the store tomorrow morning. (I highly recommend them for pizza cravings, by the way!)

Oh, and I know it's a little late in the game, but I wanted to let you all know that I am signing up for the Skyline Sports' San Diego Mud Run 5K on November 22 in La Mesa. I am REALLY nervous, but even if I have to go slow and come in last for the runners, at least I'll be able to say that I completed my first 5K. If anyone else is going to that run next month, though, let me know. I definitely want to meet up with you and meet fellow Sparkers.

    First of all- CONGRATS on entering in your first 5k!!!!! It will be nice and muddy for you!!!!! make sure not to wear clothes you care about! There is a HUGE mud pit at the end and you'll LOVE IT!

Also, I am so proud that you fought your cravings. That just goes to show that you can conqure your mind and take charge. You really want this Ty, and you can really tell! I am so impressed with you Ty!

Iíve Been Forgetting to Blog!

I know, Iíve been bad, but the good news is that I have a lot to blog about and this time, I even have some pictures to include in my Ďreportí.

Today was a good shopping day, but the circumstances of it werenít exactly what I would have hoped for: my pedometer broke today when I was at lunch with a good family friend (and new Spark Person!). I was very sad to see my $1 pedometer finally break, and because I really try to get in a minimum of 10,000 steps daily. The tragic event, though, turned into a great exercise opportunity and my mother and I got in over 3,000 extra steps on my mad hunt for a new beltline companion. Also, we ended up walking out of the store with new workout shirts, pet supplies, a new food scale which I cannot wait to use, and, of course, my replacement Sportline Pedometer. This is a picture of it below. It logs steps, distance traveled, and calories burned, which is AWESOME for logging in on SP.

Another tool I added to my weight loss arsenal this weekend was adding new food to my pantry and COOKING! Oh, and donít think that it was a single serving here and a single serving there. This weekend I made ten servings of soup (only 220 calories a serving) and 8 servings of banana bread (330 calories). The dessert will definitely be going to the gym tomorrow so I can give it away, but it was a lovely treat to have around the kitchen and it was portion controlled, so it worked out really well. Here was my favorite recipe of the week, a Chicken Caesar Pasta Salad that I adapted from SR.

Other than that, things are pretty normal. Iím upset that I missed House tonight, but I got in a great workout at the gym, so I donít regret it THAT much, you know? House will come out on DVD in a few months, and by then, Iíll be a slimmer, sexier Ty. And speaking of working out, I am now in a friendly competition with fellow Spark Person GOTTARUN26. The person with the least amount of workout minutes on November 8th buys the Ďwinnerí a healthy lunch. Of course, there are no losers since weíre both working out and getting healthy, but a free lunch for working hard is always a good reward, right? I wish my fellow competitor tons of luck and best wishes and I cannot WAIT to see her in the gym with me some time!

Itís my goal to try and post every day, but itís hard to try and do 101 things in a day. Hope you all are doing well and as always thank you so much for your unyielding support and kindness.     your meal looks good. How do you like your food scale? Sounds like you are doing great. I know what you mean about not having time to blog. I try to post one every week but sometime it don't happen because I get swapped with the other 100 things I have to do everyday. Keep up the great work. I look forward to reading about your progress.

    Wow your meal looks yummmy!!!!!!!!

I love competitions! That's how I did the whole middle spark adventure- I belonged to a group where we had to earn minutes for our team as well as do a different strength thing per week. It was awesome.

I'm excited to hear about the food scale!!!! How do you like it?

I Love My Cookbook

If you've followed my blogs up until now, you know that I'm really not the best cook, but I CAN follow directions, so I've definitely been trying. One of my girl friends bought me the Leaving Home Cookbook & Survival Guide for graduation and it has some fabulous low-calorie meals/snacks in it.

Tonight, my mother and I went to the store and bought a lot of "good for you food" including chicken breasts and ground turkey along with about 10 different fresh vegetables so I can experiment in the kitchen. I actually ended up making garlic toast for dinner which was very filling and only 300 calories. Tomorrow, after I go back and get some chicken stock, I'm making a turkey chili which sounds absolutely delicious, as well, and I intend to try a peanut butter and banana "roll up" for breakfast. You put the PB and banana slices on a whole wheat tortilla and roll the whole thing up (before gobbling it down).

Other than shopping, though, I went to see my old personal trainer today. It's been over a year since I've seen him and I think he was pleasantly surprised to see that I was pushing HIM today to push me harder in our workout. I haven't done upper body in such a long time, though, that I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow, real sore.

Nothing else has been going on, though. Nothing big, at least. I'm happy to be getting healthy and other than that weird headache that I had yesterday and today I feel a million times better. Good food makes for a happy body, right?

Have a good night, though, and I'll post again tomorrow. Right now, I just want to raid my refrigerator for the dill pickles!

    My spark people cook book is my life line. It has some great low calorie recipes. Though I think I'll check yours out the next time I'm in the book store. Good for you and your mom in supporting your life style.

A Traditional Blog Will Have to Do, I Feel Yucky

Iím not really feeling up to vlogging today because I have a nasty headache, but I did want to do a daily blog for normalityís sake. Iím hoping this is just a headache from not drinking a lot of water early in the day like I normally do and not a migraine, but you never know, right? Iím just trying to stay positive.

I found that Iím in love with SparkRecipes.com and I canít wait to make some of the items that Iíve collected in my cookbooks. I just need to go to the store and pick up the ingredients first. When I make the foods, you all will be the first to know my evaluation of them, though.

Letís see what else is going on today/night. I have kickboxing tonight which is always fun and afterward the gym manager, his wife, and I are going out for food, so it should be fun. I even made sure to log the dish that I intend to get first thing this morning so I didnít go over on my calories. I hope to do it every night we go out so I donít go over my calories like the other night. That was a real bummer.

Iím going to go get ready to workout, though, so Iíll talk to you all tomorrow. Have a great night and stay motivated! Youíll hear from me soon.

    I like berries & mango. Both are low calorie & sweet. I put them together in a smoothie (about 2-3 servings worth) & have two big glasses of yummy sweet stuff that's under 300 calories for both glasses (unless I decide to add prunes or protein powder to it).

    Might sound weird, but I actually find protein powder, chocolate flavored, helps me with cravings for sweets.

    Snacks are SOOOO easy to find things!

Gosh where do I start???

Ghram cracker (one big one with two squares) and add either peanut butter (but measure it out so you only have 1 TBSP), or one large marshmallow (if you do this, heat it in the oven).

Take oatmeal and make your own muffins-
1 serving of oatmeal (approx 150 cal's)
add cranberries, (or other things like this- nuts work but are higher in cal's), cinnamon, a little bit of brown sugar, and one egg- or 1 egg white, make it a bigger portion by adding water... you will feel fuller if it's bigger. Put in muffin cups and cook.

Or just plain out oatmeal with some sweeter things added- cranberries, brown sugar, etc- it will fill you as well. No more than 200 calories

GUM! I started on gum, and the next suggestion

Get some sugar free werthers candies (sp?) There are 5 in a serving- and it kept me busy while I was at work and needed something sweet to keep my mouth busy. Also, just sugar free candies in general (hard candy) works well!

Sugar free popcicles. or skinny cow products :)

Fiber one bars --- they have a little chocolate on the top- and plenty of fiber! 140 calories

Yogurt. You can also add granola to the yogurt-- if you get yoplait light, and add granola, it will probably be about 150 calories.

Frozen yogurt at a local parlor (not ice cream). 8 oz is approx 170calories or so

I will think of more too! I know theres a ton of options of 'sweeter' snacks!
