WORST SUMMER EVER!!!!!

Thursday, September 05, 2013

My dear husband of 26 years lost his battle with cancer on August 4, 2013. I feel that half of me is missing- a huge hole right in the middle of my body. I miss him so much! Sometimes i cry myself to sleep-when I can sleep. I can say, though, with great confidence that I know he is enjoying the glories of Heaven.
Everyone around me has been super compassionate and supportive. My two sons are trying to adjust to life without their dad. Many people have stepped in to fill the gap left in their lives. For those of my Spark friends who pray- I would appreciate your prayers as life goes on........

Looking Forward to fall

Thursday, September 20, 2012

This has been a brutal summer. It feels like every appliance in my house quit. My transmission in my car went kablooey. Yet, I know one thing-there is a time and season for everything, and breakdowns are a normal part of life. I have had several diet breakdowns this summer, also-but I keep picking myself up, dusting myself off, and starting all over again. So I look forward to the beginning of fall- a new season equals a new start-or at least a continuation of good habits and NO MORE KABLOOEY!!! Keep Sparkin' folks...........

That's a good name for it, diet breakdowns! Me, too. Haven't been losing at all. But not giving up either. I enjoy autumn so much.

Disaster Averted!

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

It has been a crazy week, and it seems to be continuing in the same pattern this week. I wake up each morning wondering what will break today. However, I determined to stay with healthy eating-because that is something I can control. I was good all day-made excellent choices-until my dinner. Actually, it was after dinner-I felt the need through an aggravating situation to raid the refrigerator and the pantry! After my second dessert, though, I came to my senses and realized I HAVE TO STOP. Why should hard work and determination be derailed by senseless eating? I am very thankful that I did not continue- a small victory to celebrate. Those of you who also struggle with emotional eating-celebrate your small victories! They work much better than 3000 mindless calories.

See that is so me...I can do so well all day but then the after dinner munchie monster takes over. UGH!! So I try to keep snacks to a minimum & try to drink more juice or water.

God bless,

Dee

Good for you for realizing what you were doing. You didn't let it continue, you stopped! Great idea on counting the small victories first, I'll try that in the future.

Agree with Pennypacker3 I made a safe zone and moved out all food I wouldn't nutritionally be happy if I stuffed my face with them. Some "company food" I moved to a special spot downstairs so it is out of sight.

Good job stepping back on the path.

This is what I did. Take ALL dessert foods, snacks, sugary foods, peanut butter and throw it in the trash can outside and don't buy any more.
Any unopened boxed / bagged non perishibles that are salty and bad donate to a Church food pantry.

OH BROTHER!

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Today was one of THOSE days. My plumbing went in my home, my transmission went on my car, and my cell phone touchpad is useless! If you happen to see a news report about a grandmotherly type woman robbing a bank in Miami-that would be me!!!! I think the wonderful thing is that I am really not upset by all this. Normally I would have eaten everything in the fridge and raided my piggy bank for McDonald's money. Today, though, I used the extra water everywhere as an opportunity to add cleaning liquids and clean my floors(I hope). I prayed over my car and said goodbye to my cell phone for a few days until my replacement phone arrives. So, I am getting acquainted with my land line again, and my children can't call me every 5 minutes asking me where I am! See-all things do work together for good (maybe I should rethink the bank robbery!)

I have heard bad things happen in threes so if you look at it this way, only good things are going to happen now.

Keep thinking happy thoughts.

Why is that when one thing breaks down, many other things get sympathy pains for it and they break down too? Ah well, you looked for the silver lining and found it.

You Can't Always Get What You Want

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

This morning I was watching an episode of "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody." This is one of my son's all time favorites. In this episode, the boys were transported to a parallel universe where they were able to do whatever they wanted. Of course, they indulged in tons of junk food, stayed up way too late, etc. At the end of the episode, they came back and wanted to eat their veggies, go to bed early, etc. It wasn't as much fun as they thought it would be! I find that to be true with my journey of weight loss. There are times it feels so good to eat junk food. However, just like the boys in the episode, I find myself coming back to my senses. I crave healthy foods-especially vegetables. It is a good feeling to know that things are changing. Another step in the journey, and this one in the right direction.

The weird thing for me is, none of my old faves taste as good as I thought they did. I fit in a few small portion binge items every week and it's always disappointing. No junk tastes as good as a warm tomato from the garden or some of my rhubarb in fat free jello...

We need those veggies and fruits, not the sweets.

I just adore veggies especially when they become carmalized either on the cook top or in the oven. Yummy! emoticon

    Kudos on craving veggies!
I can't say as I crave them yet, I LIKE them, I always have, I am hoping that the cravings come soon and drown out the other cravings!

Good for you! That feels pretty darn good doesn't it? I too crave veggies now, especially when I don't get enough, fruit too. And when I go for that yummy looking cookie or other sweet, I get that icky sugary sick feeling. It's so good at the moment, but quickly goes downhill, and I swear I'll never take another bite. Great lessons though, this doesn't happen much anymore.

Thanks for the reminder! Have a great evening!
