Despite the advertising - the P90x etc are largely cardio routines. You won't put on much muscle as the cardio compromises the growth. If you want to decrease body fat: 1] Diet fix around maintenance (hard) 2] Lift weights - squats, deadlifts, bench and rows - everything else is proganda. Use a 5x5 routine ((stronglifts is free - starting steegnth also works) 3] Throw in real HIIT. i.e ten minutes maximum but 5 minutes of that flat out 4] Keep protein intake to 1g per pound bodyweight. 5] A little (25 minutes) low intensity cardio every week just for fun. Keep a log
Tracking your workouts and progression will demonstrate the gains you are making.
I know this may seem like a pain, but it does help. I have tried both ways. If you are trying to reach specific goals, then you need to know what you have accomplished and move it up a little bit the next week so you can keep your progression going. If you get tired out, then step it down for a week.
This also applies to nutrition. I have heard it so many times, "I didn't realize how many calories I was eating until I started tracking every bite. Now I know why I wasn't losing weight." Keep track of your calories and try to stay on track.

I agree!! I have been tracking fitness minutes for about two years now and a food log nearly every day (I do take vacations off from tracking!) since 2005. It DEFINITELY keeps me on track!!
