Music

Make sure you have your favorite music with you when you workout.

I am not used to listening to music when I run or workout, but since
I purchased a Droid 4, I love it! I plug it into my treadmill and run.
Iím not sure if I would like to run with it on my arm. It is kinda big.
Iím going to buy an arm band and try.

I kept my iPod Nano for workouts and use my iPhone on the train or in the car. The smartphones are too big for me to use working out. The only exception is when I'm on my bicycle I set the GPS tracker and let it go. Working out with DVDs has gotten me away from working out with music although sometimes I would like to drowned out the sound of Tony's cheesy jokes.

Results from P90X Plus (May 21, 2012 - Aug 26, 2012)

Monday, August 27, 2012

WOW, after re-reading the "Round 3 P90X Results" blog, this is going to sound pretty much like that one.

Needless to say, I am NOT happy with my results. If you are reading this for inspiration or to use this as a measurement of P90X, STOP RIGHT HERE!!!
The following results are MY fault for not staying focused on my nutrition.

The famous quote keeps going through my head, "You get out what you put in." I wasn't very consistent throughout my 90 days. Time to tighten it up for P90X2. I HAVE to stay focused on my body fat % goal. I have 4 months to reach as close to 10% as I can. I have a feeling that 12% will be reachable, but will be much harder to lose that 2%. I WILL continue to try!!!

(B)=Before...(A)=After...(D)

90 DAY TOTAL RESULTS
(May 21, 2012 - Aug 26, 2012)
____________________________
Weight...(B)=168.2...(A)168.4...
4...(D)= .2
Neck...(B)=15 1/4...(A)=15 1/2...(D)= 1/4
Chest...(B)=37 1/2...(A)=37 1/2...(D)= 0

Waist...(B)=33 3/4...(A)=33 14...(D)= - 1/4
Hips...(B)=36...(A)=36...(D)= 0
Rt & Lt Thigh...(B)= 21...(A)=21...(D)= 0
Percentage Body Fat...(B)=16.39...(A)=15.38%.
..(D)= - 1.1%
Muscle Gain/Loss= 1/2
Total Fat Gain/Loss= - 1/4

After looking at those measurements, one would have to wonder how did you even lose 1% body fat. I was at 15.38% the week before. I believe I did get below 15% during last week, but because of what I ate from Friday until this morning caused me to lose everything I accomplished last week. During my rest week this week, I will concentrate on my nutrition and see what my measurements are before I start my round of P90X2 next Monday.

Despite the advertising - the P90x etc are largely cardio routines. You won't put on much muscle as the cardio compromises the growth.

If you want to decrease body fat:

1] Diet fix around maintenance (hard)
2] Lift weights - squats, deadlifts, bench and rows - everything else is proganda. Use a 5x5 routine ((stronglifts is free - starting steegnth also works)
3] Throw in real HIIT. i.e ten minutes maximum but 5 minutes of that flat out
4] Keep protein intake to 1g per pound bodyweight.
5] A little (25 minutes) low intensity cardio every week just for fun.

The P90 routines are like Jenifer Aniston - they look good but really don't do very much..

Sorry you didn't get the results you were hoping for. It still looks like you're making progress.

emoticon I have the same problem. This time I'm paying attention to my nutrition and keeping the junk out. I'm only into my 2nd week of Insanity but hoping for great results at the end of 60 days. I'm looking forward to your reviews of P90X2 as that will likely be my next program.

Keep a log

Tracking your workouts and progression will demonstrate the gains you are making.

I know this may seem like a pain, but it does help. I have tried both ways. If you are trying to reach specific goals, then you need to know what you have accomplished and move it up a little bit the next week so you can keep your progression going. If you get tired out, then step it down for a week.

This also applies to nutrition. I have heard it so many times, "I didn't realize how many calories I was eating until I started tracking every bite. Now I know why I wasn't losing weight." Keep track of your calories and try to stay on track.

I agree!! I have been tracking fitness minutes for about two years now and a food log nearly every day (I do take vacations off from tracking!) since 2005. It DEFINITELY keeps me on track!!

Take a break

Take a rest from working out occasionally youíll come back with renewed vigor.

This could not have come at a better time. Today was my last real w/o for P90X Plus. Tomorrow is Kenpo X Plus/Run and Sunday is stretch day. Then it is rest week. Like I mentioned earlier in the week, 90 days of a workout is a long time.

I watched the getting started dvd for P90X and Tony really made this w/o really easy to customize to your body's needs. I can't wait.

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

God bless,

Focus on feeling

Focus on the positives of exercise, how do you feel and how does it make you look.

I believe how you feel is VERY important. It is a self motivator. For me, when I do things for other people that they are not able to do for some reason or another, that encourages me to keep exercising and eating right. It also relieves LOTS of stress :)

Have a great day everyone!
