I DID IT!!! Won 1st place in my age group (40-44) on my 1st 5k run
It was pretty exciting for being my first race. As most of you know, I have been doing practice runs for the past 2 months. I am so glad I did. It helped me pace myself. I knew what my time needed to be by the half way point. My pace was 20 seconds slower than I wanted, so picked it up for the last half. It was funny how my breathing would pick up from other runners. I had to refocus and breath my pace. I remember what everyone told me on here (SP), run your race. So I concentrated on that. For the past couple weeks I have been practicing on sprinting the last stretch of the race. So today when I reached the top of the hill, I started my quick breathing and stretched out my legs. It felt really good. There wasn't anyone around me when I reached the finish line. With God's strength and P90X bringing me to an awesome fitness level, I was able to raise the bar for the 40 - 44 yr old age group P90X "BRING IT" TEAM for being my inspiration! All of you that have been running in races and doing TRI's motivated me to do this.
The BIGGEST goes out to my no. 1 supporter's/cheerleaders, Melanie & "Bri". Both of them did AWESOME waking up early this morning and being there for me. They cheered me on and took some AWESOME photo's. I LOVE YOU BOTH

“Do or do not. There is no ‘try’.” ~Yoda or "Do Your best and forget the rest" ~Tony Horton~
In one of the goal groups I lead, I have noticed how ingrained the concept of “trying” has become. People (especially women) confidently affirm, “I will try.” When it comes to affirming action “I will do,” the words come much slower, if at all.
Most of us are great at setting goals; in fact we are goal-setting experts. We have set goals a thousand times or more. What we are not so great at is reaching them. In order to influence reaching our goals, we have to follow Yoda’s wisdom. We need to replace “try” with “do.”
Committing to a goal for an entire year can be challenging (or even 90 days). Avoid getting so wrapped up in the future that today is lost. What practical steps can you take this week that move you toward your goal? What step can you take today? Journal your answers, making each step realistic, measurable, and manageable. Today do not go out and try, go out and “do.”
While reading this, I can't help to think about baby steps. Think of a goal. Plan out how you are going to reach that goal. Then focus on the the small steps to reach that goal. Before you know it, you will have accomplished your goal.
Another thought that crossed my mind was the conversation Melanie and I had a couple days ago. I was describing to her how quickly my last practice run felt. There is a stop sign that is the mid-point of the run. The first couple times I did the practice runs, I focused on that stop sign. It felt like I would never get there. This last time I focused on the street and my strides. When I did this, that street didn't seem as long and I had cut 30 seconds off my time when I reached the stop sign (that may have been coincidence). I'm sure you get my point, focus on the small steps.

We are never given a dream without the power to make it come true…
I recently read a book about gold-medal Olympians and their stories. While various techniques, skills and training methods were used to attain success, one thing remained constant–the dedication to the dream.
Most great accomplishments aren’t found at the end of smooth pathways. They are found by climbing mountains, going through dark valleys and treading through murky water. When we start ONLY looking at the mountain, or a dark valley, or murky water, it is easy to lose sight of the dream. Bach reminds us that “We are never given a dream without the power to make it come true.” While we will get sidetracked and look other directions at times, we have to remember to hold the vision of our dream like we would a precious jewel.
Think of all the people who have had great visions and dreams… Martin Luther King, the Wright brothers, Alexander Graham Bell, Walt Disney … a long and varied list is endless. Had one of these individuals chosen not to cherish the dream and nurture it forward, our world would be vastly different.
What is your precious jewel of a dream? It can be simple or complex, but whatever it is do not lose sight of it. The realization of a dream will have a profound influence on your home, your community, the country, or the world.

As most of you know, September was a busy month for me. I had some priorities that needed my immediate attention and it took me away from my daily routine's.
First of all, I'm sure you all have noticed that there is a lady that LOVE's to boost my ego by her AWESOME comments Yes, I am talking about "2ndchances" (Melanie). Our relationship has been off and on for over a year now (more on than off). From the beginning, God has been in the center of our lives and has been our foundation. For the most part we have had a wonderful relationship filled with love and happiness. She is the one that kick started my health journey last year by teaching me to drink more water. It was a challenge for me at first. Then she started teaching me about carbs. Then I ran with it from there. She has been my biggest supporter throughout my health journey. She is the only person in this world that has personally watched me transform.
We found out in June that she is pregnant. It is a baby girl
Her name will be "Jayleigh Sheree ". We started off the month being sick. She got it first then of course I got it. Then we spent the better part of 2 wks packing her up and moving her in with me. Now I can make sure both of my girls are safe, stress free, and happy.
Then my bday vacation arrived quickly. Went to Lubbock, Tx to visit my family and share the good news of becoming a daddy in January. Parents and family were very happy. Then it was off to the Dallas Cowboy game. My first NFL game to attend. Dallas playing on my 40th birthday, on the first Monday night game in the new stadium. IT WAS AWESOME!
To top my whole birthday off, I had the GREATEST WELCOME HOME

It was difficult for me to stick to my nutrition plan during September, but I didn't over do it to much. My activities and workouts pretty much leveled off what I ate. I pretty much just maintained during the month. Although I didn't miss any of my workouts, the results were not what I wanted for Phase 3. I will probably do Phase 3 over again in November after my first 5k run on Oct. 17.
October has started and life has calmed down now. I am very adaptable to change, but i do love my daily routine. Now it is time to get the momma involved in doing prenatal yoga and pilates.
OK TEAM, I am back and time to "BRING IT"! I have missed keeping up with my team and being involved. I'm sure everyone is doing AWESOME.
