W5D6: Day off fasting

I was having the hang of this fasting but I have to have lunch today.
This the end of work for our summer students and of course we have to feed them as good send off and thanking them for their time in the lab.
I am off fasting for today.
I will resume on Saturday as tomorrow is parade day and I am meeting my daughter for a walk and lunch. (Messed myself up).
What did I do yesterday: I went on a shopping spree: I think I am getting addicted to work out tapes, so I bought two yesterday both Kathy Smith's. The indoor walking and matrix work out? I tried in door walking this morning, well it is a touch work out with all weight and foot work. I was sweating by 10 min. I only did the first 26 min routine. Any way it was a good change from Leslie's DVDs. I will probably go for a long walk later today to make it up for short work out.
Take care of your selves, I am off to the lab and to feed the troops.

W5D5: D3 fasting

We are almost at the end of W5 and summer is also getting away from us. I love the heat and we do not get enough of it here on the Island. Fall starts early, the temp is already getting lower by the day. As this challenge gets closer to the end, I am starting to actually get the hang of it and learning to listen to my body, how it responds to different foods, exercises and it likes and what it will just get away with.
This day 5: I was up early to exercise and have a good breakfast.
I have increased water intake today, had 2 cups while exercising (70 min of walk and tone with Leslie) and 2 with breakfast and 2 after brushing my teeth. I also added spinach in my soup just make sure I get my veggies in. Today breakfast was same as yesterday and I again brought a snack of cantaloupes, watermelon and yogurt for snack before walking with Liz at 6:00 pm.

Then I had to drop of the car for a paint job. Some one clipped it in the packing lot when we were shopping and of course they did not leave an apology.

I walked to work (15 min) So far 85 min of exercise.
Now I am going to start some experiments on fish virus (RT-PCR) as soon as finish here.

The fasting is going well and I am developing respect for the Muslims for their discipline every year to go through it. My friend converted because her husband is a Muslim (They had been married for 12 yrs before she converted and the children had reached the age where they start asking questions).

Keep moving, fly high and our bodies will respond and reap the benefits.

W5D3 and my day 2 into fasting.

Have been lazy at blogging lately. Any how the days are not standing still though.
Last week I did not see the scale go down as I would have wanted but that was my fault as I did not move at a fast pace as i would have wanted and was still getting over my indulgence in Sarnia.
So this week I hope that my body will respond to activities.
My first day of fasting went well, I drunk enough water in the morning (4 cups between 5:30 to 6:30 am) to stay hydrated all day and ended my fasting at 6.00 pm and drunk more water and had a snack of yogurt and nectarine and then went for a walk with Liz (slow walk for 30 min). I was home by 6:45 pm and went straight ahead and walked 4 miles with Leslie's walk away the pound tape.
Then had super: brown rice, mixed vegetables and chicken breast. Had strawberries for desert and soy beverage. Drunk more water.
Day 2: Just did sit ups this morning, breakfast was home made chickpeas/lentil vegetable soup with one tsp of olive oil, fibre 1 cereal and strawberries and soy and water.
Brought a snack of banana and yogurt for 6:00 pm snack before heading for a walk if it is not raining .
All in all my calorie range is 1300-1400.So far so good.

WK4 ends: Goals for WK5

I am sure I off track this week and the scale will tell.
I was doing fine but we went out yesterday for lunch and I thought I made a good choice in the Wendy's grilled chicken sandwich. As I am not eating any salt in all the meals, the salt in that chicken came close to the recommended amount. Even though I watched my portions at dinner I was over my calorie limit by 400 cal.
Tonight we will be eating on the run again as we are driving to Halifax so if the scale move down a little tomorrow, well these are my excuses. And you all know they are just excuse, I just blew it.
Next week as i mentioned somewhere else I will be fasting (Just not eating during daylight) so I will have to plan my meals careful so that I am not putting my healthy in danger.
My plan is to exercise around 5;30 am and again after dinner
Milk, cereal, fruit and egg whites or whole eggs,vegetable soup and 2 cups of water (400 cal).
Evening Meals: I will break the fast with a light snack of yogurt and nuts and water around 6:00 pm and then go for a walk with my daughter. Then dinner will be pasta or brown rice, a protein (meat, beans or fish) cooked vegetable (1 serving) and small salad of mixed greens, skim milk or unsweetened soy beverages and end with a small fruit salad before bed and water. I will be taking my multivitamins. I think will be able to get in 800 calories.
I have an option of stopping any time If I find that my body is not happy about all that change. My friend will not mind, she appreciates the support even if it is one day.
As we go int the second half of this challenge, I hope you are getting the hang of it and putting it all together. I am realizing that i get out as much as i put in. So this net week I am going to do my best to stay on track and then ripe the benefits.

Just Curious

As we are making changes in our habits for the better, I was wondering what is it about food industry, some physician, and dietitions recommend/suggest using artificial sweeteners instead of real sugar or honey especially to diabetics.
I am sure I know about no calorie factor and not having effect on the blood sugar especially if you are diabetic.
These are my curious questions:
1: Do all sweetener pass through the digestive track undigested?
2: If they go into the blood stream where are they broken down, is it in the liver?
3: Since most of them are make by small change in the natural sugar molecule, does n't that mess around some thing? We know what danger came with hydrogenating vegetable oils, is it right to think the same for a glucose or fructose molecule?
These are my curious questions that went in my head while I was reaching for splenda for my morning coffee, though I ended up not adding any in that beverage.
I hope some one can enlighten me.

    I use stevia from the plant.... not calories or weird stuff- just a plant...

of course some plants are poisonous...LOL

    Variety is the spice. I mix it up some sugar at times and spenda them agave or honey.

I don't know the answer either.

I will check back to see if anyone knows.

    I can't answer your questions. I do know

I trust what God made more than what man made. I use Agave or honey

Dietitians are doing second thoughts about artificial sweeteners since they are finding they increase peoples cravings for sugar.

They are finding more and more people with IBS have cramps with artificial sweeteners. The government says it is only 2% and so it is ok, but a lot of people think it is a lot higher.
