Thankful Moment

Saturday, December 08, 2012

Sometimes I am just overwhelmed by how awesome my life is. It's the same life I had yesterday, when I happened to be feeling a little blue. Nothing circumstantially has changed since yesterday. I just started counting my blessings... oh, the shift that occurs when I do that!

I remember once at a youth event being asked to think about what Bible character I most identified with and why. I think most of the girls were supposed to pick Ruth, Esther, Mary or Martha. I don't remember who I picked to be honest.

Today I'd have to pick David. He was so flawed, so selfish, so whiny when things didn't go his way. But when he got his praise on, look out! =0) Things shifted.

David was raw and honest in his approach to God. I think everything David ever said to God was said straight from the heart. He didn't sugar coat his complaints when he felt God was being unfair. "Why do my enemies get ahead but all the bad stuff happens to me???" (Insert foot stomp here!) But when things shifted, when David got back into his thankful place, he speaks from the tenderness of his heart. "I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live." "My inner self thirsts for God, for the living God."

That is why I'm David. When I hurt, I cry out. "Why do I have to go through this? Why is my path harder than the paths my friends walk?" I'm whiny, I'm selfish, I'm flawed. But, I've also been blessed with a thankful heart. The storms don't last long, they can't! I'm too blessed to stay in the valley for long. I've come too far, been through too much, seen God's hand at work in my life too often to NOT be thankful. And I think my praise is all the sweeter to God for what I've gone through. I think true worship comes when a price has been paid, a test has been passed, a trial has been endured.

So my blue day is behind me, and my mouth is once again filled with His praise. My inner self thirsts for the living God and I will sing unto Him as long as I live.

Transformation Continues!

Saturday, November 24, 2012

I have 5 tattoos. I got the first when I was 22, the last probably 10 years ago. Not everyone regrets their tattoos, but I do. I feel like I'm not the same person I was when I got them and I just want them gone.

I don't have problems with tattoos in general. Whatever makes you happy! But mine don't make me happy anymore. So I'm having them removed.

I started looking into it a few years ago but it was really expensive and I've watched videos of people screaming and crying while they're getting theirs taken off. Wasn't looking forward to either of those things!

Well, I found a clinic that does them for less than half of the best prices I could find in Dallas and it's only about 7 miles from my house. I set up an appointment and budgeted out in my head that I could afford to get 3 treated at a time.

You can only get a tattoo treated with a laser every 4 weeks, more often than that causes scaring. And it usually takes 3-5 treatments to remove each tattoo, depending on the colors and the type of ink used. It also depends on things like your own body's healing properties. You can't tell before hand how many sessions... it's a wait and see kind of thing.

I went for my appointment and the lady who runs the clinic told me that she'd do all 5 of mine at the same time for the price I'd budgeted out, basically she was doing 2 of them for free! Bonus!

So I'm laying on the table and she tells me that she will stop at any time if the pain is too much, I just need to let her know. I started to sweat at that point, honestly! But then she goes to work and... I kept waiting for this super-intense pain... that never came. Yes, it hurt, but it wasn't bad at all. Not as bad as it hurt to get some of them. It only took a couple of minutes to treat each of them so it was over really quick. I never had to ask her to stop, in fact we carried on a conversation the whole time she was treating me.

So, in a few months I will be tattoo free. Another step in my transformation. YAY!!!!!

I'm so happy for you! I've always worried about young people getting tattoos. I had my first at 43 years old, a mother and baby dolphin on my foot in memory of our son. Then I had my eyeliner done but I don't think that should count. I had another small (light pink) one last week on my inner wrist to remind me of my life's journey. At 51, I am a totally different person than I was in my young 20's. (Scary to think of what I would have gotten back then! LOL)
I am so proud of you and your transformation. It's even better that it's almost pain-free and less expensive than you anticipated. Good things come to good people!

Dropping some pounds here!

Sunday, November 11, 2012

WooooHooooo! My scales have made me very happy today!

Thank you to all my sparkies (especially the girls at the castle!) who convinced me that I needed to change up how I was eating!

My observations from the past week...
1. Seriously restricting calories below a certain level DOES NOT make me lose weight!
2. Atkins Induction Phase is not that hard for me to follow.
3. Atkins Induction Phase will make me lose weight.
4. Atkins Induction Phase is a lifestyle I can easily maintain for the foreseeable future, and actually the rest of my life.

I am exactly 30 pounds from my goal weight and got into one of my pairs of size 12 jeans today with barely any muffin top!

Yes, life is good!

Wow, the muffin top is almost gone? YOU ROCK!!! Just be careful and remember that induction is not meant to last for more than 2 weeks. If you want to continue it, I would recommending cyling in and out for maybe 2 weeks at a time - bump your carbs up for a couple weeks, maybe not a lot, 30-50 per day instead of 20 - and that can actually work in your favor too, as if you stay in induction too long, sometimes you can stall also. There's a video on You Tube that talks about why people fail on Atkins, and one of the reasons listed as that people stay on induction too long.

Love you sweetie - way to go!!!

The evil muffin top!

Monday, October 22, 2012

So I'm searching my closet for a clothing article that's one size too small to use for my one size challenge.... and I pull out THE jeans.

They are size 12.
They are Miss Me jeans that cost $100.
They were a Christmas gift last year.
They seriously make my butt look good!
I can get them on and buttoned.
I can even breathe in them just fine.
But then I have to look in the mirror and see...
the evil muffin top!

Right now I won't wear these awesome jeans out of the house even though every day I see women who wear jeans in public that are too small and give them a muffin top that's way worse than mine. I could just wear a loose shirt and you wouldn't be able to see it, but I'd still know it was there... hiding under that loose shirt... jiggling and squishing over the waistband of those oh-so-wonderful jeans... and I can't do it. Because I can do better. By the end of our challenge I WILL wear those jeans with a fitted shirt and I WILL look good. I WILL banish the evil muffin top forever!

Ah, yes, the Evil Muffin Top! That scourge of dieters! I wish you good luck on getting rid of the darn thing. I am hoping that mine goes away eventually, but I blame mine on Baby Fat from giving birth to ten kids. No muscle tone left! Good wishes for a successful banishment of the Evil Muffin Top. But from my viewpoint you look pretty good already! emoticon

I have the same thing. Please let me know your secret for getting rid of that muffin top. What I do it wear a panty that has a top part for that. Or a top like a cami that is for that area. I am thinking that only surgery or sucessfull crunches will get rid of that. . emoticon emoticon
