what a long night.

Thursday, October 07, 2010

and the adventures continue! the house is still under wraps, we have the people here working on the kitchen now. last night my grandmother got into the worst car accident she has had so far. she was weaving all over the road forcing people off the road until she rear ended someone, lost control of her car and flipped it over. she was the only one hurt. she is now in the hospital and will be there for at least a few days as she has a fractured bone in her neck and has to wear a brace and also has stitches and bruising. luckily she had the sense enough to be wearing her seat belt, or i'm sure things would have been much worse for her. as bad as things are, she is still lucky to be alive. we have to check on how bad the car is and i'm almost certain that her insurance will drop her after this time, not that i blame them a bit. even if she doesn't lose her driver's licence, we must keep her from driving and i hope she realizes why we will keep her from getting behind the wheel again. needless to say, my mother and i didn't really get any sleep last night and there is alot of work ahead. sorry to go on and on, but this nightmare never seems to end and it's only getting worse.

That's rough. It's so hard to admit you can't do certain things any more due to aging. I see it with my own aging parents. I feel for you and your grandmother. Such a difficult part of life.

Hang in there and let us know if you need any support. Aging family is so hard to deal with. They are our elders and we want to show respect and support but we want them to be safe, too. It's a tough line to maintain.

Oh my goodness! I'd say I hope her car and license is taken away from her but then that puts more stress on you and your mom. So I'll keep quiet there but how is your mom? I know she must be a nervous wreck.

Keep me psoted.

I hope your grandmother will be well. It's so difficult to watch the people we have loved and respected all our lives and who have taken care of us regress to a dependant state. For me personally it also has made me extremely aware of my own aging.

my prayers are with you. my husband has dementia. it's still early but I tell him every day first accident or first time he gets lost I take the keys. I want him to remember that; but it will be awful when I have to do it.

My prayers are with you and your family during this time. I know that it is hard to focus on anything positive but try to find a glimmer of hope to hold on to. emoticon

The nice thing about Wednesdays is once I get my butt into work, it feels as though I'm halfway done. I think I expend most of my energy each day just getting myself up and moving.

I hope the rest of your week lives up to the promise so far!
