Computers vs. Walking

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

As I sat around this afternoon, I noticed that all four of my family members were on a laptop, tablet, or compact video game. I sighed and announced I was going out to take a walk. Did anyone want to come? No! My son muttered that it must have something to do with SparkPeople!

I answered that it did! I earn points for walking and get to enjoy 'Me time.' He said it must have something more than that because he saw me reading an article about 10 things to motivate yourself today on SparkPeople. Yes, it did motivate me to think of an idea for a book, to notice a huge tree, and wonder what it would be like to live on the houseboats I passed by. So I would choose a walk over computer time anyday!

That's wonderful! So, what's the idea for your book?

Smart choice- my 17-year-old daughter would have said that out of pure sarcasm. emoticon

Walks are theraputic too.

Sounds exactly like my household. Good for you for getting out there and getting your exercise! I know how hard it can be to stay motivated in a situation like that!

Summer Breeze...

Monday, June 20, 2011

makes me feel fine! Remember that song? It is in my head now that school ended on Friday. Today is the first Monday that I could sleep in. School's out for summer! We are visiting two of our sons and their wives this week. It is nice to see them settled, happy, and taken care of. They are both teachers runs in the family!

Next stop is a visit to our parents, two other children, and relatives. It does involve too much eating and I am feeling it already. I am tracking my food daily even if I go over my limit. We will join a gym for the month when we visit our hometown. My husband and I are looking forward to working out again at a gym. I will also take time to read, relax, and feel the summer breeze in my mind... emoticon emoticon

Ah, the first sleep-in of summer is the best, isn't it? Enjoy your visit "home!"

The Simple Things in Life!

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Today could just be any day in my life. This day I am going to stop and be thankful for:

-a job that satisfies me
-a loving husband and children
-a healthy tuna and cottage cheese salad lunch
-supportive friends who listen to me even when I complain
-a sunny day with only an hour of rain
-my health and that I can exercise without aches and pains
-a good book waiting for me to read at home tonight

Moving Day Has Arrived!!!

Monday, June 06, 2011

The movers are coming today! I hate moving! It doesn't get better, it just gets worse! My husband and I have moved all over the world over 20 times. I still feel emotional everytime! Luckily, it takes away my appetite and I can't eat when I am stressed.

We are moving from teaching in Italy to teaching in South America. It is an exciting adventure. Our last child just graduated from college and we are off! I will miss my friends and the Italian food the most!

The doorbell just rang! The poor movers have to walk up and down the 80 steps to our top floor apartment. There is no elevator! I am looking forward to my last time down the steps!!! The steps have gotten easier over the past two years and that is a good thing!!!

Good luck! It sounds so exciting to just pick a new country like that! Other than studying abroad in college, I've lived in Missouri my entire life! Where in South America are you moving? Do you speak Spanish at all? Have fun!

Jersey Shore Stalking...

Saturday, June 04, 2011

I am almost famous! Today I watched the filming of the TV show, 'Jersey Shore' in the streets of Italy. The cast was flipping pizzas at a Pizzeria and trying to get customers to come in. My friends and I watched the action for over two hours until their shift was over. I had to sign a 20 page waiver just to get in line to buy a bottle of water from the Pizzeria. I may be on MTV if they don't cut out my exciting scene!

The stars looked bored and spent most of the time sitting outside the pizzeria drinking soda. Now and then they stood up and did karate kicks or playfully punched empty pizza boxes. There were two cameras filming at all times. They must edit a lot! Luckily, I have lost weight for my TV debut - thanks to SparkPeople!!!

That show is horrible but glad you had your 15 minutes of fame, right?

What a fun day! The closest I ever came to "fame" was playing poker with Tori Spelling at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. It sounds more glamorous than it was :)
