Feels like Friday not Wednesday!

Wednesday, June 01, 2011

Tomorrow is Italian National Day which means no school for us! My husband and I are teachers at an international school in Italy. We are happy to celebrate this special day with the locals.
We started tonight with a take out pizza (healthy with spinach and ricotta cheese)
Tuscany red wine
the 15 minute stability ball SparkPeople video!
Tomorrow we will start with a cafe macchiato (espresso with a dab of milk)
and a walk around the local neighborhood in the sun!
The best part is that it will be Friday again in two days!!!

The Secret of Gum!

Sunday, May 29, 2011

Shhh...don't tell anyone. Gum can save your calories...especially if it is sugar-free! I have become addicted to sugarless gum. I chew it when I am hungry, when I walk, when I am in the grocery store, and when I am home. It exercises my jaw and stops my craving to chew. My SparkFriend told me she even chews gum in the kitchen while she is cooking. I will try that because I love to sample food as I cook and nibble from the kitchen cupboards. It is one of the best kept diet secrets. The only place I don't chew gum is at work....I am a teacher and it is against the school rules. Shhh...don't tell my students that I am a chewing gum addict!!!

I chew, too! We can't chew gum at our school either, but if we could it would be fine with me. It also helps with focus, and some of my students could use that!!

I like Dentyne Ice (blue pack) - not sugar free but only 5 calories per piece.

Optical Illusion

Saturday, May 28, 2011

I went on an overnight field trip with fourth graders this week, but that is another Blog in itself! We went to a History of the Cinema Museum. They had a room with carnival type mirrors that make you look wider, shorter, and weirder.

I found my ideal self in the mirror that made me look taller and thinner. I looked like I lost 20 pounds in my reflection! I saw my future and couldn't stay away. I liked what I saw and I looked better from all angles. Before we left the museum, I went and took one last look at the person that I can be in the magic mirror. Now I have my goal in mind and it will not be an Optical Illusion!!!

You look fine just how you are!

I wonder what would happen if everyone's mirror in their houses were like that... I bet more people would be walking down the sidewalk with their heads held high.

What a great motivator! Wish there was something like that available to see what I'd look like at my goal weight.

Exercise is a Good Habit!

Saturday, May 21, 2011

I do have bad habits, but will not discuss those now. My NEW good habit is daily Spark Exercise Videos with Coach Nicole. I start Week 4 tomorrow of the Spring Fitness Challenge (formerly known as the Bikini Challenge).

I may never wear a bikini again, but at least I am exercising daily. I often find that I want to try another video when the 10 minutes are done. At first, I was nervous about the Challenge exercise commitment. Now it is painless and fun! I have gained another SparkPeople GOOD habit!

Fantastic! I so totally relate to wanting to do another video after the first one finishes - I do that too! :)

Great work! It takes time to make something a habit, and a good habit is just as hard to break as a bad habit.

Lunch at Work

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Yes, I do bring my lunch to work! I make it easy on myself. I bring a big bag of washed, chopped lettuce from the grocery store to work on Mondays. Then each day I bring leftover dinner or cottage cheese, tuna, cherry tomatoes, etc. I put whatever I have for the day on top of the lettuce. Then I spray balsamic vinegar over the top and it is ready to eat! I get daily comments from co-workers on how healthy my lunch looks. It is... and I am healthier for it! emoticon

Yes, I bring my lunch to work too. When I work. I have a job on Friday that will require me to pack a lunch. This school system gives one half hour for lunch and it always seems like you have to throw your food in your gullet in a hurry! So I'll probably pack light and have a nice snack when I get home. Maybe a couple of slices of deli meat and some celery sticks. And a few nice berries for dessert. My son is a junior in HS and prides himself on the fact that he has never eaten a school lunch since 7th grade. Packing your own lunch is good healthy planning!
Have a great Wednesday.
