The Dalai Lama

Ask The Dalai Lama a Question
Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
When you lose, donít lose the lesson.
Follow the three Rís:
- Respect for self,
- Respect for others and
- Responsibility for all your actions.
Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
Donít let a little dispute injure a great relationship.
When you realize youíve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
Spend some time alone every day.
Open your arms to change, but donít let go of your values.
Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and
think back, youíll be able to enjoy it a second time.
A loving atmosphere in your home is the foundation for your life.
In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Donít bring up the past.
Share your knowledge. It is a way to achieve immortality.
Be gentle with the earth.
Once a year, go someplace youíve never been before.
Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion.
If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

HAPPINESS Secrets for a HAPPY 2012!

Saturday, January 07, 2012

There has been a lot of research lately on what creates happiness. Do you know that 40-50% of people's happiness comes from VOLUNTARY choices we make daily?

IF you have a HAPPY friend, your happiness goes up 15%. If your HAPPY friend has a HAPPY friend, it goes up by another 10%. If your HAPPY friend's HAPPY friend has a HAPPY friend-even if you don't know them-your happiness will go up another 10%.

There are 3 things to practice daily to create happiness...Remember that...

1. The most important time in your life is NOW!
2. The most important person in your life is the one you're with NOW!
3. The most important way to create the future is to act with awareness NOW!

Happy New Year and thanks to Deepak Chopra for his research on happiness!

Thanks for sharing this! I've been in a funk lately and need to snap out of it. It helps to remember (quoting YOU):

1. The most important time in your life is NOW!
2. The most important person in your life is the one you're with NOW!
3. The most important way to create the future is to act with awareness NOW!

Thanks for posting this. I think the part that spoke to me the most was 'The most important time in your life is NOW'. We (meaning I) tend to get so caught up in what's going to happen next that I don't commit to the now. I need to do that more. I know that would make me happier!

I joined a gym with a view today...

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

I can walk to it in 10 minutes AND it is located on the beach. I have a view from the treadmill of the water and outdoor pool. We went swimming after working out today. It is like being on a vacation at a luxury resort without paying for the hotel room!!!

Is cold weather a Xmas requirement?

Saturday, December 17, 2011

It is summer in the southern hemisphere where I live. I am an American teaching in South America and it is hot! The sun is shining, people are swimming, and fir trees don't grow here. We have to buy an artificial tree and no turkey for Xmas dinner. They don't live in Uruguay. However there are signs of Xmas...

1. I hear Jingle Bells playing in the grocery store.
2. My daughter arrived for the holidays!!!
3. My students gave me Xmas cookies and bread.
4. The neighbors are setting off firecrackers nightly which is a Xmas tradition here.
5. My daughter brought cans of cranberry sauce (cranberries don't grow here either).
6. Best of all, we are together to share memories and Xmas cheer!!!
5. People are wishing me Feliz Navidad...which I thought was only a song!

Happy Holidays to my SparkFriends wherever you are!!!

Photo of Farmers Market in Uruguay

Saturday, December 10, 2011

It makes me happy to buy freggies on Saturdays from the local farmers. It is half and hour walk from my home and I take a shopping bag on wheels to bring it all home. So I get 60 minutes of fitness and a bag full of healthy food! I also can practice my Spanish!
Just saw a photo of Jennifer Lopez on People.com filming her new talent TV show on the beach near me in Uruguay. Why am I the last to know? I could have skipped school on Thursday to see her!!!
