I bought the new Spark Cookbook on my Kindle!

Yea! I am so excited! Yesterday the new SparkPeople cookbook was published. I didnīt know if I could order it in South American where I am teaching. I gave it a try last night and it worked. Technology did it again!

I kept reading the promos for the cookbook and wanted to pre-order it. I looked up the weight of the hardback color cookbook on It weighs 3.2 pounds. Hmmm...I wondered how much that would cost to send to a foreign country. Then I looked up the Duty I would have to pay to import it . The price kept getting higher and higher. Then I saw it was available on the Kindle!!!

I started reading it within minutes of ordering the cookbook. The first chapter pulled me into the book right away with true stories of weight loss and tips for healthy cooking. It is more than a cookbook! It is an interesting read about changing your lifestyle. Love the photos of the authors and Spark Families. have done it again! Thank you!!!

Today I WALKED to the HEALTHY Farmers Market for the first time in my new neighborhood! It was full of South American vegetables, flowers, and cheese. I had to use my basic Spanish to figure out how to buy the food and pay for it. It was a challenge and I survived! It reminded me of my childhood in Michigan. My mom took us to the Farmer's Market every Saturday and the tastes and smells take me back to that time.

It was actually fun to venture out and interact with the locals. Now I have a kitchen full of fresh food from the farms nearby. I had a cold plate with vegetables and cheese (thank you Nancy for the great lunch idea). I made a fantastic discovery today! Guess where I'll be next Saturday morning?

    What a healthy activity. I was going to go to my farmer's market this morning, but I wound up making a trek to a music shop with my son to pick up a string bass for him for auditions this season. We did have a wonderful visit on the trip and he's very excited that I could help him procure that instrument. Have a wonderful Sunday and enjoy those healthy cold plates.

    Ok, I am wayyyyyyyyyyy jealous that you have a farmer's market in walking distance! My daughter has one where she lives in San Francisco too. I really want a farmer's market near me! I visited one this summer......5 mile drive. I bought a basket of heirloom tomatoes. The flavor was incredible. I can hardly stand to buy a tomato at the grocery store anymore. I think I would be at the farmers market every week if I could. Happy to you! Nancy emoticon

Starve myself on bread and water?
Or run 10 miles a day?
Or do 200 sit ups?
Or climb Mt. Everest?

No, none of the above (thank goodness).

According to an article I read today, it is so easy!

1. Walk an extra 500 steps a day.

2. Eat 100 calories less at one meal a day.

Wow! I can do that! It does sound simple. 100 calories is not much. I will not starve...and I will walk more....see the neighborhood....enjoy life!

Wine and beer? No is a glass of .....

Skim milk for breakfast! I just read it on a website The article described a study where the group who drank 8 ounces a skim milk with their breakfast ate less calories during the day. They even had 2 pieces of toast with butter and jam for breakfast with their milk. I guess I can try that! It sounds easy enough...and worth a try to curb my hunger.

Today I am chewing gum in between meals. It is a rainy day and I keep thinking about what I can eat next. So that is a problem. I am seeking comfort food. I have been printing some SparkRecipes that look good to me. So I am looking at them and making a list of ingredients to buy. Cooking is a good remedy!

    Eating an apple before a meal will help you eat less. That's not a drink but I'd you eat it about an hour before your meal you won't be as hungry.

    When I'm hungry I know I have to up my protein levels earlier in the day. Maybe that's why the skim milk is supposed to help. But, if you're hungry, it might be that your metabolism is running faster because of the increased weight loss and exercise. it might actually be ok to eat more.....just keep it healthy. Oh, and Mom2's comment on cinnamon................Yep, it's working for me. I put cinnamon in lots of things for that very reason AND I started taking the supplement. It made a huge difference in my sugar cravings!

    I have a glass of skim milk with breakfast most of the time. The rest of breakfast is oatmeal with raisins, and the milk just goes with it.

It's kind of amusing that some study says I'm doing the right thing; but I can't contradict the study. I don't have any trouble making it from breakfast to lunch because of hunger. Stress, yes. Boredom, yes. Social eating cues, yes. But hunger isn't a problem.

    I drink skim milk in am too, either in glass or on cereal. Since I have osteopenia, I need to get calcium so I do that along with my calcium supplements. Didn't know I was also curbing my hunger -- but I'm no hungry till about lunch time and then not starving. Thanks for tip!

    You know, since starting Spark, I've been diligent about a cup of milk with breakfast, either as a beverage or with my Nature's Path Flax Plus Granola (REALLY good stuff) and strawberries. Maybe that is part of why I'm doing well. Try it! Two other breakfast ideas for you: wholewheat toast and peanut butter with cold skim milk or mini wholewheat bagel with whipped cream cheese, topped with fresh, sliced strawberries and, of course, a glass of nonfat milk. You'll feel truly pampered by that second idea, I promise.

One other tip: Supposedly cinnamon helps to regulate blood sugar, so I sprinkle some over my coffee before brewing it.

    I drink flavored tea. In a mood for pumpkin pie, I have pumpkin spice tea instead. In a mood for chocolate, there is chocolate mint flavored tea. I love doing that in the winter, especially when I am home on a snow day, If only I could use this technique in the summer, too. If tea came in soft serve ice cream flavor, I'd be more successful with this in the summer...
