the quality of being dedicated or committed to a task or purpose.
"his dedication to his duties"
noun: commitment; plural noun: commitments
the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc..
"the company's commitment to quality"
noun: motivation; plural noun: motivations
the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.
"escape can be a strong motivation for travel"
admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering.
"she was resolute and unswerving"
Common sense says that if a mac truck is heading for you at 60 MPH you will make every effort to get out of it's way. You will be Dedicated to preserving your life. You will be committed to finding safety out of harms way. Your motivation will be Life and you will be resolute in obtaining your goal of avoiding pain and death at the impact of that 18 wheeler against your body.
In the same way an unhealthy lifestyle is that mac truck barreling down on us at 60 MPH as we stand in the middle of the highway of life. Common sense says that we should act like we would if it was a real clear and present danger to us, much like that mac truck. Eating unhealthy is like smoking on our danger scale. When I was a smoker I never looked at the end game results, I always figured I had time. Is that not like many of us today? There is tomorrow to start making healthy choices, right? One thing I learned about tomorrow and that is that it comes and goes many times over before we realize it. Another fact about tomorrow, we just do not know what it holds. When those last minutes are slipping away will be regret that we never made those healthy choices all those yesterdays ago? Grant it that there are some situations beyond our control but, even then will we regret that we did not live or enjoy life to the fullest because of our unhealthy choices of all those yesterdays?
I am committed to making those healthy choices and I want you to be as well. I do not want to do this alone! I am not saying a drastic life style change right this second, right this moment in time. What I an resolute to do is to start choosing the healthier option and moving forward. Instead of that chocolate eclair I will choose strawberries and grapes. Instead of Dr. Pepper, I will choose Unsweetened Tea or even better, Infused Water. Instead of waiting to pick up the mail as I pull as close as I can with the car, I will walk to the mail box. I will be dedicated to improving my life one healthy choice at a time. I will make my commitment before you all to cherish my life and to honor my God by respecting this body He has blessed me with and living my life to the fullest with that breath of Life He has granted me. Will you join me? Just a healthy choice away from a new life. A health choice away from freedom from the bondage of over eating and the emotional ups and downs of being obese.
I am enthusiastic about becoming a “Nutritarian,” as coined by Dr,. Joel Fuhrman. But, I have lacked engaging this plan fully. Do not get me wrong, I have started making those healthy choices and I do blow it. I am resolute about my goal and I will achieve it. But, just an interesting note; Though I have not been 100% committed I am still seeing benefits. Today I woke up and I checked my vitals and here they are:
Blood Pressure: 111/71
Oxygen: 99/98 (Set Free From Smoking closing in on 100 days Now, Praise God!)
Blood Sugar: 105
I can not wait to see what my body will be like when I am 100% on track!

Greetings friend, thank you for reading my temporarily boring blog. I promise if you do not give up on checking back now and then the reading will become more interesting. Recently, through a family member exposed me to the teachings and diet plan of Dr. Joel Fuhrman.
I decided not to weigh myself all the time and count calories all the time and be subject to the emotional mountaintops and valleys of that adventure. Instead, I will make healthier choices and follow the basics of Dr. Fuhrman’s teachings. In addition, I will put to use, finally, my Nutribullet and start drinking a detox drink every morning. The only hindrance to my plan is the fact that I am on a very low-income form disability. I know, if I am serious then, NO EXSCUSES!
Thus, here is the basic idea on what to eat from the plan daily.
½ Cup of Beans
3 Fresh fruits
1oz. Raw Nuts & Seeds (1 tbsp. Seeds daily)
1 Large Salad as a main dish
1 Double Portion of Steamed Green Vegies
Mushrooms or ½ Cup Onions
The whole idea is to eat raw and get away completely from processed foods!
There are recipes that Dr. Fuhrman provides with various other ingredients. He also shows you how to make your salad dressing. As for me, I found something that is very simple that I love very much on a salad, which is Fresh squeezed Lime Juice! Mmmmm… soooo Gooood! I am drooling now!
As for my Nutribullet Detox project:
Something new that my beautiful boss recently exposed me to, thank you Jonda Marshall, is Infused water with fresh fruit. Does not that sound delicious?
Here are their benefits to help with detoxification energy and hydration.
put as much fruit in water as you like and let the water sit for at least 30 minutes before drinking
Green tea, mint, lime-fat burning, digestion, headaches, congestion and breath freshener.
Strawberry,kiwi-cardiovascular health, immune system protection, blood sugar regulation, digestion.
Cucumber, lime, lemon- water weight management, bloating, appetite control, hydration, digestion .
Lemon, lime, orange- digestion vitamin C, immune defense, heartburn.
(drink this one at room temperature)
Do not keep longer than 48 hours you can put more water using the same fruit, but discard after 48 hours.
Now, I must point out she shared this with me off a post from her Facebook. In other words, thank you to who shared that and to its creator. Ms. Marshall nor do I accept any credit (or Liability) for the above recipes concerning the infused water drinks.
On that note, I so plan to use the recipes to boost immunity every day along with the congestion recipes since fall and winter are knocking on the door. I had pneumonia about a year ago and I refuse to get it again! I am already ahead on defense against that because, thank God Almighty in Heaven, He delivered me cold turkey from cigarettes!
I must note that after only two days of somewhat following this, well 95% following, my blood pressure, that usually was 130+/88+ was 117/77. I cannot wait to see what is next!
I plan to start using resistance bands and then when I am less than 350 pounds I will start riding a bike again, I am so excited about that! I have a dream to actually ride one day from Houston to Austin and then from Houston To California, where I was born. Then my ultimate goal is to cross the United States on a bike. Hey SPARKS! Do you want to sponsor me? LoL.

Here are some changes that I have made recently. I am told that you should make small changes over time so you are not burned out. This was reinforced when I listened to Doctor Fuhrman who stated something to the effect of, “Make only changes you can stick with for life,” (not an exact quote).
An Interesting side note: here is that I have done this diet, well not perfectly, for two days and I already seen results. My blood pressure ran on average 130/90 and I took it today and without meds it was 117/77!
Here are the photos of some recent changes,
From poor choice…
A healthy choice…
Large Salad once a day, Mmmm…
Carrots, Strawberries, Romaine Lettuce, spinach, Baby Carrots, Olives, Garlic and Oregano Seasoning, Salsa, Tomatoes, and Red Onions.

Houston, Texas Thursday November 15, 2012: I have been watching what I eat now since Halloween day. I have come to the conclusion that it is not always pretty! My biggest failures tend to come at night when other family members are present and accounted for, and then I eat what they eat. Sadly that is not always a good thing. On nights that I am alone my eating habits are good, not optimal, just good. I understand and realize this must change in order for me to improve beyond what I am already feeling and seeing. Now it is time to put what I know into an action. Knowing seems to be one thing and doing is the big step that some never take or put off and off… and off… and off. BUT, I do not want to be one laying in the ER in fear and panic because I may have just had a heart attack and wishing I WOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE! Fact is that now is the time because later, after a major medical incident it makes the road back harder, steeper and full of potholes ready to take you down. Not to mention if we are six feet under, exercise will not help. So Now is the time, whatever city you’re in, is the place and YOU are the reason to make a change; even small ones.
I make Healthier food choices, which I hardly ever, if never, would eat. For example, I try to get two serving of fish in a week, beans, lettuce, chicken, no more hamburgers or unhealthy tacos, I choose corn tortillas over flower, minimal salt intake now. A banana a day, more water, shooting for no soda (I’m hit and miss on this one). I use things to kick metabolism up, such as, lemon and pepper etc.
I move more. I do calf raises when standing around, I found a seated cardio program (which I cannot do it all, but I am working up to it). I use resistance bands to tone. I stretch more and move more in general.
I have a goal. I want to reach 300-350 and buy a bike and ride again. As a kid I loved to ride and even road my bike about 8-10 miles to my cousins and in the city of orange California that is a big deal at the age of 11! I want to get to the place in health that I can actually travel from Texas top California on bike to visit my Mom and dad’s grave as a way of saying Look mom and dad I made it and I am healthier and stronger. I have been fat all my life and I remember how excited and proud my mom got when I lost some weight as a child. We lost her to cancer when I was 13. My dad died in 2010 suddenly, well after a week in a coma, my brother took his ashes to California and so I thought as a goal It would be nice to finish my fight against obesity to pull into that cemetery on a bike, ride up to the grave and thought they are not there, just a shell left behind, I am sure in spirit they will rejoice with me, their sons long time battle ending in his victory not only over fat but over disease and sickness and early death that could have resulted from that lifestyle.
Thus, I work toward that goal and one day… I will Arrive!
So what have my changes done for me since 10/31/2012?
My Blood Pressure is perfect!
My Blood Sugar is under control!
Looking for all meds to be reduced soon!
I feel better
I sleep better
My self-esteem is growing!
I’m sexy and I know it!
Nope I do not know how much I lost, but clothes are looser and pants are falling!!!
To end this blog post I say DO IT and DO IT NOW!
Make a change, even if a small one.
My new motto will be Arrive Alive! I fully intend to arrive at my goal Alive, not just breathing alive, but Alive as in full of life, energy, excitement, kicking, screaming, laughing, loving, and living life – ALIVE!
