Tuna Salad - Packed with glutaine, an amino acid that helps step up your immune system's efficiency, tuna is a great pick when you're sick. Know What To Drink----and What Not To

Saturday, January 30, 2010

There are many ways that alcohol can get you into trouble. It doesn't make you feel full or decrease the amount of food you'll eat. But it does encourage your body to burn as much as 36 percent less fat and make you store more of the fat you eat. And it can inhibit your production of hormones that help burn fat and build muscle.

Okay, so water isn't exciting, but drinking about 8 glasses of it a day has a lot of benefits. It helps keep you satiated (often what we interpret as hunger is really thirst). It flushes the waste products your body churns out when processing protein or breaking down fat. And it transports nutrients to your muscles to keep your metabolism clicking. Otherwise, the best drinks you can have are low-fat milk and green tea (or, if you must, no more than 2 glasses of diet soda a day).

I drink my body weight of water and have my green tea everyday. It do work.

I will note one positive benefit on alcohol, that I found very surprising. I will underline that the research I read was NOT talking about drinking alcohol RATHER getting natural alcohols from ripe fruit or consuming a very small amount (.5 oz).

Small amounts of alcohol early in the day cause the pancreas to start producing more insulin and to continue so for the rest of the day. The research showed what very small amounts of alcohol early in the day could ward off type 2 diabetes.

This research use to be on the American Diabetes site, but I notice it has been removed. The closest I found of reliable source was this...http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/h
ealth/1988884.stm which is not the same info, but intros the same concept.

I'm guessing it was removed as probably the message could be turned to mean "guess what I get to drink!"

I agree with you that drinking late in the day is a sure fire way to end up eating more. I've been using it to help fall asleep, but have stopped for that very reason.
