Yesterday I took a walk...

Saturday, September 25, 2010

Actually, it was a Hike! I know I wouldn't have been able to do this even 6 to 8 months ago. The hike was to Drift Creek Falls in Oregon. It was a beautiful day. I walked/hiked with three friends.

The Forest Service designates the trail we were hiking on as "Moderate." It had elevation changes and we had a climb UP, UP on our way out. The trail had some obstructions like tree roots and rocks and some muddy areas. There was a part of the trail that had fallen away so we had to be even more careful when we passed this area so we didn't go tumbling down the hill/mountain side.

Drift Creek starts here in the Coast Range. Drift Creek Falls is 75 feet high. You reach the area via a 240 foot long suspension bridge at the end of the trail. The suspension bridge sways a bit when you walk across it. The suspension bridge is 100 feet above the bottom of the falls. Very Indiana Jones.

All I can say is: It Was FUN!!

New BP Machine to try...

Thursday, September 09, 2010

My doctor and I are working together to get my blood pressure a little lower. The prescriptions I was on, my weight loss up to now, and my attempts at relaxing, all seemed to bring my diastolic reading down very well. However, my systolic reading didn't come down like it needed to. My pulse got too low and I was feeling pretty tired too. So, I am on different, more appropriate meds(less dosages too): my pulse is up a bit, I'm feeling a lot more energetic, but my systolic pressure isn't cooperating yet... So, my doctor let me borrow a BP cuff to use over the next two weeks. I have been using a wrist pressure machine at home. I guess this isn't very reliable or consistent. So, I'll be using the cuff both AM and PM and then...we'll see. I'll let you know what I find out.

Have a great week. Be well! emoticon emoticon

Many years ago I had a blood pressure monitor that worked on your finger. It was wildly erratic, to the point that I threw it away. The arm monitors are very good, and I even had to take it into the office once. It match the nurse's numbers very closely.

Aerobics for the Heart and Soul...

Sunday, September 05, 2010

Today the village where I live held a memorial/tribute for my friend who died on August 13th. She was so loved and cherished by so many people. Hundreds gathered to share their memories and heartfelt thanks for having been gifted by her presence in their lives.
Her spirit must surely be buoyed by the profound outpouring of love that was expressed today. It was a perfect day. The kind she would have loved to be part of. And, I believe, she was part of. It was such an open-hearted expression of feeling, love, emotion, and acknowledgement that she is gone to her next big adventure that I feel like I have participated today in a Marathon with my heart and with my soul. I am grateful to have had this day.
