To There and Back Again...Light the Way

Sunday, December 23, 2012

emoticon emoticon Take good care of you and yours my fellow Sparkers. This is the darkest time of the year. And, this particular Winter season it has been especially dark. But, in the hundreds and thousands of years for those who came before us, they celebrated with bright lights and bonfires on the shortest day/longest night every year. The darkness was lit with joy and the celebration of good across the land and warmth and kindness was visited upon all people and every sentient being everywhere. I propose we do the same. Gather the tribe together and figuratively, if not literally, let's light our way through this dark time with love, laughter, kindness and joy. I wish you and yours peace, safety, and the surety that goodness will always overwhelm evil. Always. Let us continue our walk. Let us keep on keeping on. Remember to Enjoy the journey!

The Mayan Apocalypse is "a fairly unremarkable day on planet Earth...

Friday, December 21, 2012

Just as the Mayans said all along. Today is the start of the new long count Mayan calendar and also the first day of the rest of our lives. How cool is that?!

We are hosting a "Party Like There's No To-Maya" party tonight at our house. We expect about 20 folks and look forward to being with our friends and finding the things to be positive about and grateful for in our lives. While it is a potluck, I do think it will be very appropriate to eat dessert first! You know, just in case...

Remember to enjoy the journey and Be Kinder Than Necessary.

My thoughts and prayers are with the youngsters, families, neighbors, friends, brave teachers and staff, the survivors and the ones who did not survive the senseless massacre that happened in America today. Yet again. Not again.

It is so difficult to lose people like this, some who were working to provide loving school environments, some who may have grown up to change our country for the better.

Here are some of the Holiday decorations...

Saturday, December 08, 2012

we have at our house.

I have Department 56 Dickens Christmas Village buildings and accessories. Not everything...just enough!

My grandmother used to set up a little village on top of her buffet in the dining room. When I was a child, I used to love to look at it during the Holidays. My grandma made a ceramic Christmas tree which she painted, fired and completed with little, multi-colored bulbs that shine the light through so that it looks like a "real" tree. I have her tree as the heart of my display. I loved it then. I love it now.

I think...no, I know that I love my village because I so loved her village from so long ago...60+ years ago.

I hope you enjoy it too.

So pretty! Love your pictures. Thanks for sharing your decorations with us. I have put up the bare minimum this year as we will be away for Christmas and I love to put the decorations up but hate to take them down. The bare minimum is my compromise! We have been enjoying our fireplace this year. It really adds to the Christmasy feel.
