Beautiful, pristine Waldo Lake Oregon...

Yummy food...

A friend mixed together three kinds of organic squash: pattypan, zucchini, summer and garlic, onions, sea salt, etc and sauted them up into this lovely dish. Super YUM!!

Another treat: Pretzel Buns

We had a great time. Wonderful friends. Lots of laughs. Beautiful, magical scenery. Fresh, sweet air. Great campfires and tasty camp meals. Who can ask for anything more.

I grew up in Oregon and we lived in Lincoln City, Coos-Bay, then move into the valley south of Eugene OR in the small town of Cottage Grove. Love you pictures! We will have to but some pretzel buns and warm them over the fire like that!. They are so good! Thanks for sharing!

Where I live, the just-picked, luscious organic heirloom tomatoes and peppers are only available at the Farmer's Markets. I just love them. During the summer (and, hopefully, into the Fall), I've had a tomato and pepper sandwich each and every day. It is so good that I look forward to savoring it as long as I can. I'm glad you have other sources of fresh, organic, wholesome food than Farmer's Markets. That's great.

More Gratitude to Shout Out...

Sunday, August 26, 2012

I would be remiss if I didn't mention how grateful I also am for my stalwart companions on the Walk to Rivendell Challenge on the SP Message Board. We walk together with the Hobbits, Aragon, Frodo through magical places/situations from the Lord of the Rings. It's a fun way to share our journey and to give and get wonderful support to each other.

Also, I mentioned previously how much I love the Virtual Walk Across America team. I also enter mileage and it gets logged on an accurate map of the USA that shows how far I've walked on my first walk across America. I'm in Missouri right now. It feels like it's taking forever, especially at my very slow pace right now. On the site, you can see a photo of exactly what it looks like at the place you are on the walk. Amazing. I want to again acknowledge and thank fellow Sparker Monty (now in heaven), for introducing me to this wonderful site.

Enjoy this day. Enjoy this journey.

I used the Walk Across America before and enjoyed it but with arthritis flares it was so hard to keep up. It is a wonderful team with great scenes of the places you are going. The Walk to Rivendell also sounds like an awesome. challenge and great fun! emoticon

I'm not on the "walk across America" maybe because no one mentioned it before. I'll have to search for it. I used to walk four miles every day, but my feet gave me problems, and now it's only two or two and a half miles most days. I take days off on Sunday and whenever I cut the grass, but I still could make some progress if I started now. At two miles per day it's still more than four years to cross the continent.

Update and Gratitude...

Sunday, August 26, 2012

This is a post I made on my Shooting Stars 5% Challenge Team. I'm copying it here for others to see. This is where I am right now. From today...Forward.

"I appreciate this challenge. I look forward to gaining insights into what worked (my health numbers are still good according to my many checkups lately. So that is still a positive to celebrate. However, my walking has become more difficult because of what my podiatrist identified as neuromas on the bottom of my left foot. He believes the painful lumps on my foot are benign. He provided circle like adhesive backed pads to use around each painful lump to keep the weight/pressure off the areas. He said it could be up to 3 months for them to heal, if they do. I have an appt with him in 6 weeks to see if this is actually helping and if I need an ultrasound to see what is going on. He did say that sometimes surgery is required...that I don't want to consider. So, long story not any longer, I have had trouble walking, I didn't stick to my food plan as much as I have in the past, I regained some weight that I had previously lost. I take heart in moving forward and making positive changes in those areas that I can control. I commit to keeping a positive focus. And, to keep on keeping on. I am grateful for Sparkpeople. I am grateful for this challenge and, I am especially grateful for the Shooting Stars.."

don't give up , I'm sure you'll find something to work . don't say you don't want to consider surgery . I did the same with the gallbladder and after 10 years of torture I did it and it was SO easy and SO good after that . but maybe it won't be necessary . my back is still not healed and my activity is not stellar, I cleaned the house yesterday cause I'll leave again for a month and I couldn't stand the dirt and the mess and this morning is back to unbearable pain again.I am considering surgery but I hope I won't have to do it cause I don't have anyone to take care of me . I hope you can find a solution that works ad don't give up on you.

Rest in Peace Monty 66...

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

I was saddened by the news that our fellow Sparker Monty 66 had died earlier this month. His illness was quickly terminal. Because of Monty, I found out about the Virtual Walk Across America team and URL. Because of Monty's great encouragement at "just the right time", I've continued on my first trek across America and am currently counting the miles through Missouri. Monty is an inspiration to me and I will continue to take him with me on our shared journey. Monty will be missed by many and, he will be missed by me. Hold him in your thoughts and in your hearts. I am grateful to have met him and grateful to Sparkpeople for making it possible.

He has blessed all of us to keep our friends close.
