Great news...we have a paved road and our driveway too...

Sunday, November 06, 2011

For some people this wouldn't be as exciting as it is to us. But, we've been waiting since 1994 for our gravel road to be paved. Our road district surprised our neighborhood last week with a brand spankin' new paved road. AND, since they were here and had enough extra asphalt, we were able to pay them to do our bit of driveway too. This summer was the absolute worst in terms of dust from the road. There are more and more people living up the hill and, while most take there time so as not to raise the dust, there are always a few who drive like bats out of hell. The dust clouds are as high as the tops of the very high evergreens and pervade everything. We enjoy taking care of our landscape but find it difficult to breathe with the dust. No open windows are possible on the road side of the house either. However, in one day, that all has changed. Lucky us.

While it seemed like 67 years at times, it was actually more like 17 years. emoticon emoticon

That is pretty exciting I must say. I also once lived on a dirt road and every time I hung washing out, it smelled dusty when I brought it in.

So glad you have eliminated the dust problem. You live in a beautiful place. I think, except for the road dust, I'd keep it exactly as it was when you moved in. It reminds me of places in my childhood.

Back to Trip Photos...Seattle 9/12/2011

Saturday, October 22, 2011

We were in Seattle the day after 9/11. We went to Pioneer Square where there is an installation that honors the fallen firefighters of Seattle. On it's own, this is an incredibly moving tribute to those firefighters whose lives were lost in doing their jobs. What I hadn't expected though were the US flags that were left at the memorial by those who had come the day before (9/11) to remember and mark that day. I was so moved by this. I wanted to share the photos and the background with you...

A memorable quote I'd like to share...

Sunday, October 16, 2011

"The optimist expects the wind. The pessimist complains about the wind. The realist adjusts the sails." The School of Sailing & Seamanship/Orange Coast College

Hope that through rough seas, smooth sailing, or whatever else comes your way, you hold this simple quote in mind and retain the balance within...

R.I.P. Steve Jobs...

Thursday, October 06, 2011

“Remembering you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked; there is no reason not to follow your heart."

Steve Jobs 1955-2011

Thanks for your passion, creativity, and all that you have done to make this world a better place.

He has made such a great contribution to our lives. So many innovations. His creativity has been tremendous. It will be so sad to have him gone. The Iphone, Ipod, etc. His ideas, his inventions have changed the world and how we deal with it.

It is so sad to die so young.
