I saw True Grit yesterday...

Sunday, February 06, 2011

I really thought it was one of the best Westerns I've ever seen. There were many challenges, many lucky synergistic moments, and much fierce courage to go around. I've hit a rough patch this last week. I'm having some difficulties with joint pain slowing me down. While I won't be biting the reins with my teeth so I can fire the six-shooters in each hand while I charge alone into the many guns charging at me (Yes, a reference to True Grit), I will be gathering my strength to start again while holding onto an optimistic attitude. Take care all. Be good to yourselves. Keep on smiling and spreading the Spark!

I enjoyed True Grit (John Wayne) many time! I didn't know there was a remake?

No matter, great movie!

Shucks, I was hoping to see you "biting the reins and firing six-shooters at the same time"!

It was a wonderful movie! I also wanted to share with you information on a product that I use for pain in my lower back. I have two deteriorated disks and this is the only product I found that takes that horrible pain away. You can buy it at a chiropractic office if they carry it. It's called Bio-freeze, great stuff for the joint pain. Good luck!

Information on sodium/salt and health is so important...

Sunday, January 23, 2011

I've had blood pressure that needs medication to be in a healthy range. And, my systolic pressure didn't want to cooperate even WITH meds. Since Sparkpeople and my healthier lifestyle and shedding 60 pounds, my blood pressure meds are the least amount I need to take and both systolic and diostolic are good. The eye-opener for me is my growing awareness that sodium/salt seems to have an impact on my readings. I'd like to not be on any BP meds at all. So, being aware and reducing salt on a day to day basis is important. I'm on a Spark Team that has a focus this week on sodium/salt and its impact on good health. Sparkpeople is awesome for so many reasons. This is just more.

emoticonThanks for sharing your experience with salt. It is a real eye opener. I use to think it was only important to watch your salt if you had high blood pressure. Now, I am starting to realize that is not true.

Have a healthy week and thanks for all you do for our team.

I've definitely reduced my salt intake, but I'm not as careful as I could be. Thanks for the reminder of how important it is. I've weaned myself off the taste of sugary sweet and oily....I can surely do salty. Yesterday I was over on my sodium tracking and I noticed it, but I didn't think about why until now. I'm sure the can of soup I ate did it.
It's the prepackaged foods that gets us in trouble every time!
Thanks T!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hope you are warm and well...

Saturday, January 22, 2011

I am fortunate to be visiting my daughter, her husband, and my three grandchildren. They live across the country from my partner and me. So, while there is sweet joy in the visit, I must say I am freezing from cold weather that I haven't experienced in 25 years! Where we live it is a temperate climate. Muddles through between the 40's to 60's most of the year. It does occasionally get hotter or colder, but that's a rare exception. I know it is January, but still, I am totally frozen in teen and subteen temperatures while visiting the Northeast. I am keeping bundled up and not making too many forays outside. I hope you and yours are warm and well wherever you are and wherever your travels might take you.

I feel the cold much more without my insulating fat but thermal clothing does a great job and I;m definitely not complaining!!

Not that I live where it's warm...but I really don't like cold....Blah! I do hope you are enjoying your visit with the family! I wonder how many calories shivering burns off?

Meet the newest member of our family...

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Sophie Cuddles is a 3 year old Lhaso Apso/Miniature Poodle mix sweetheart who was surrendered to our local humane society when her elderly companion could no longer care for her. Sophie Cuddles is just a joy. She and our dog Smokey are getting along just fine. She is house-trained and eagerly goes to her crate to sleep through the night. Did I say "miracle." What a dog! My partner and I are feeling really lucky. Which reminds me, I should probably buy a lottery ticket. Who knows, my luck might extend to a jackpot or two.

Have a great day/week. Always remember to Enjoy the Journey!

So glad you were able to give Sophie a new home. We adopted twice (1 dog, 1 cat) from rescues this year. The dog was surrendered to a TN Pet Sanctuary when her owner was terminally ill and could not care for her. Unfortunately he passed prior to them accepting us as her new caregivers. The cat was a stray captured with her litter. Her kittens were adopted then the rescue saved her from being put down. I hope Sophie brings you lots of joy as payment for sharing your home with her. Hugs, Keke

I changed my Weight Ticker on my start page to...

Saturday, January 08, 2011

more accurately reflect my journey. When I joined Spark People in March 2009, I weighed 254 pounds. In the months proceeding, I had started my weight loss journey from 270 pounds. (My doctor's scale read my highest weight as 269.) I actually weighed more than 270, but I believe this accurately reflects my weight as I began this journey to where I am on this day. So. Here I am at 209.5! I am very pleased with the progress. My health measures are all very much improved. My blood pressure meds are greatly reduced...my blood pressure (including the pesky systolic pressure) is finally very well controlled in a healthy range. My aches and pains are very much reduced in my knees and ankles which means I can physically do things I haven't been able to do in decades. I am preparing and eating healthy foods. I swear I feel more energetic from this food. I have better balance. Better everything really...In looking at the numbers, I am more than half way to the number that I've set as a target. 60 pounds shed. 55 pounds to release on the way. This is a celebration of sorts.

I have been sidelined with a pesky cold for much of this week. I am feeling better now. I think by Sunday that I'll be exercising again and getting back in the swing of things.
When I thought of this journey I've been on, I took heart for the journey ahead. So, this is the State of the Tudi4480 as of January 7th, 2011. I'm having a lovely time. I hope the same for you.
