Summer Almost Over, So Far....

Saturday, August 23, 2014

Summer 2014 is coming to an end.
The unwritten rule is after Labor day, summer 's over.
It probably seems like that. With kids back in school. Most summer vacations over.
It's really the time I like to vacation. Crowds down and weather comfortable. The extreme hot season passed. But all likely hood i'll stay close to home.
Not as interested in flying anywhere these days. Too complicated.
Wouldn't mind taking a train trip.

When I was in grade school the teacher on first day had us stand up and tell how we spent our summers.
I went to a small country grade school. They could do things like that back then.
Counting all four grades there were probably 24 children.

Most kids talked about what was happening on the farm. The swimming hole. catching bugs. maybe a trip to Grandparents.

I got to tell of a train trip to Nebraska to visit relatives with my sister and Grandmother. We rode for three days, had a sleeping car and told of all the buffalo and animals we saw. And the rattlesnake hunt we went on. Oh the boys were interested in that. The girls not so much.

And of course the country fair, but the biggest and best was and still is the State Fair. All the rides and food and carnival games. .

Living in the State capital, we have a big State Fair, started yesterday, runs through Labor Day.

Back in my days, the State Fair was even bigger and better then it is now. Of course back when I was a child everything seemed bigger and better.

My friend and I are planning to go next week. Maybe catch who's performing, all depends.
We like to walk around see the animals, eat some (Once a year) fair food. Usually split some over fried, no nutritional valued, loaded with empty calorie food. Oh well what can I say, It's the fair.

I missed out this year , by not knowing the added category of contests. "The Bling Contest.". You know I love my bling. I have or can create a very over the top bling item. Next year, if the good Lord is willing, I will enter that. think ,might enter the chocolate cake contest. I'll keep you informed. Smile!!

This summer I planted a container garden, have it crowded on my patio. I plan on planting more next year. Can move the small dog fence out a few feet and make more room.
I want more Japanese eggplants. Only have two this year and it's not enough. I realized one cuke plant is enough. I'm not making pickles, so don't need too many cukes.. Tomatoes are good. I have cherry and Early Girls. Need more peppers. Plant some real hot ones. And of course all the herbs. Always plant some flowers. They attract the bees, who pollinate the veggies.

I though with all the hot weather the tomatoes would ripen too fast. But just read tomatoes ripen best at 70 to 75 degrees. Too hot they don't. So with the temps getting cooler, looks like I'll have plenty of tomatoes. I have zucchini everyday. But still plant a few more next year. try for some butternut squash too.
It is work to have a garden, but the rewards, the fresh food, can't get any fresher, is worth it.

I wrote earlier about the Art Fair. Posted some of my jewelry. Well I have been working on more, here's a few of the latest.

I loaded these photos on the computer, did a sideshow and they looked pretty good. One a little out of focus. But when I loaded on to Spark they seem dark. I might have to get a new camera, or set up some better lighting. I need good photos for Etsy, and my jewelry page, Panache Designs by Tisha. Will be up soon.
Busy writing descriptions on all pieces. I loaded these on to my photo page too, can see larger images there.

Leaving for a Italian Festival today. plan on doing a lot of walking. maybe a little eating too. Then we will drive to the coast for a few days. Friends doing the Hood to Coast race and they will be staying, big outdoor party tomorrow. Hope the coast weather is reasonably nice.

The dogs are clamoring to go. But will stay home till we leave for the coast. then they can run on the sand. So much fun.
All in all the summer has been pretty good. Weather beautiful, if not a little too hot for me. Don't know what happened to the "Original California Golden Girl", used to worship the sun. If I didn't lay out an tan I didn't want to be seen. But now it's A/C and shade. Not sure if it's age or I'm wiser now. Smile!1

Take care everyone.
Enjoy the rest of summer.
I'm going to try, but looking forward to getting out my Fall clothes. Do a Fall Thrift Fashion blog as soon as Fall arrives.
Peace and Love,
Tisha

When I was going up, we always went to the Ohio State Fair, for at least one day. It was one of the real high points of the year, and I remember that the radio always had "The Monkey Wrapped His Tail Around the Flagpole, and other special Fail band pieces. I haven't been to a state fair for years - and I think I will watch and go next year. The Florida State Fail didn't seem as big when I did go once, but I recall reading once hat the Ohio fair was the largest in the country (if that was true). It's too far away for me to go back now.

I hope you had a great time. emoticon

It's horribly hot and miserable here but it feels like summer is already over for me. August has always been a very depressing month for me. I am loving my A/c and shade too!

A vacation in cold weather to a warmer climate is my kind of vacation.

One of our state fairs is on right now and it is too hot to enjoy it. I love the salt water taffy.

I loved your container garden!

Your jewelry is beautiful!!

    Love this blog! Very interesting!
I, too, love the Fair, but DH who is a "farm boy" doesn't like to go. And we live in state capital where fair is very big, but I have never gone.
Daughter lives in OH state capital where I loved going to fair with her. Always remember the year John Denver entertained us. What a show he had!!!
We don't have much luck with container gardens, not sure why, but envy you having all the fresh veggies.
Your jewelry is exquisite, I must say.
Hope you have fun at the coast! (I loved the Oregon coast when visiting there.
I'm like you, would like to take a train trip, but not sure when or where!

Tisha, an enjoyable blog, as always. The yield from your garden sounds delicious. I am making eggplant lasagna tomorrow, in the crockpot, from Sparkpeople cookbook. Your jewelry is lovely - I am particularly attracted to the pieces with pearls. Enjoy all the good times coming up with your friends, especially Hood To Coast, the original, and biggest, of all the crazy relay races. I watched a documentary on Hood to Coast a couple years ago - it was really entertaining. Take care.

Tisha, your garden is cute! We've tried growing a few things in containers in the past, and I don't know if it is because we get so terribly hot or lack of a little shade, but things don't produce well at all. We may try again next year. We have a nice sized patio we could easily put pots on. Love the pics of your jewelry, too. Have a great weekend and enjoy the Fair!!

Summerfest Art in the Park 2014

Tuesday, July 29, 2014

Some of you might have seen my comments in friends feed about my working to create more jewelry for my Art in the Park show.
It was this past Sunday, July 27, 2014.
This is the seventh year I have been admitted.
There were a few years I didn't apply.
There were a few years I never thought I would be able health wise to participate in doing a show.
I was so obese, it was impossible for me to get around. Since I am single, there was no one to help me set up and tear down, load, unload, give me breaks.
Those were some bad, depressing years.
I really like to do these kind of shows.
Even though selling on line has got to be the way most people go these days. Almost every artists, craftier I know still likes to get out and have personal contact with the potential customers.

Outdoor shows take more preparation and supplies than indoor ones.

First and most important is the large fold up canopy. I've had this one about 10 years. It's the heavy duty steel kind. It has served me well and I'll keep it as a back up and for the coast, where it can with stand the windy conditions that sometimes hit the Oregon coast even in the Summer.
I'm going to buy a lighter aluminum double fold up canopy. Besides folding up vertical, it fold in half, compacting it to a four foot bundle instead of a six foot.
It will be easier for me to handle and load and unload.
On asphalt one can set it up by there selves. But on grass you need another person to be on the other side to open or close it up.
At this show my friend Jerry was next to me, he always helps me..

I have a van that I use for shows and hauling around some of my treasured thrift finds.

You need tables, covers. Displays. supplies, like packing paper, boxes. I use an outdoor carpet , encase a piece of jewelry falls on ground, i can see it and doesn't get lost in the grass. I have to have some kind or risers to make a second tier on table to show the jewelry.
That calls for some shelve boards to sit on racks.

I pack the van the day before the show.

On the morning of show I load the jewelry and a cooler with water and snacks. I don't eat vendor food.

Once I arrive, usually by 6:00am, they like to give vendors 2, 3 hours set up time. Plus it depends on location . I had number five location so early arrival, unload, then move van to parking area so others can get in and do the same.

At this show all vendors are set up on both sides of a winding walkway that goes through the middle of this lovely park. There are huge trees that provide shade.
There is a stage, music and many people picnicking . tables and fire pits provided.

This was only a one day show so took three light fold up tables. If it had been a three day show, like the one I'm doing in a few weeks at the coast, I'll take four heavy duty tables.

Tables set up, risers in place, covered tables and all with black cloths. With white ones on side. Sometimes in Spring I do an Easter show then i use pale blue cloths. But jewelry always looks good on black. After all it's the jewelry you are showcasing. No other distractions. But you still have to make your booth look attractive. Make sure all boxes and junk out of sight.

I set up in a horse shoe shape. Those pictures are right side, front and left side.

Here are some of the pieces that sold.

The last photo is my Boho necklace, i make 3 or 4 all different stones but same design. I sold all. So for sure will be making more.
I had one on with turquoise as as the dominate stone, a women wanted it and even though I had thought i would keep it as my own, I sold it. I can always make another.
There were bracelets and a few earrings sold too.
I always provide a $1.00 basket of assorted bracelets and necklaces. That basket was very popular. The young girls , boys, and women love to rummage thru and find something they just can't pass up.

It was a very hot day , i was sticky and really couldn't wait to pack up and get home. I have a pool, I knew i would jump in as soon as i could change clothes.

Finally 4:00 came i had started to put some things away a little earlier. i always do. all the jewelry got wrapped in to the trays, packed in the bags.
Cloths folded, displays wrapped and store till next show.
Jerry helped me fold up canopy and insisted in loading it into van for me. He's a real sweetie.
I got everything else loaded up and headed home.
Dallas is half hour drive from Salem.
I was tired, didn't get much sleep night before.
I stopped got a roto chicken and some salad.
Home at last.
Titan greeted me with kisses. He thinks any time I'm gone is forever.
I had carried the jewelry in with me. Left the van packed. Might stay that way till i go to the next show. I looked at the loading, it's good. So much trouble to unload only to load again. I have a secure place to park it. Just won't be doing any thrift buying, or at least any big pieces for a while.
I'll use my Porsche to run around town.

I was so tired, I didn't feel like changing into a swim suit to hit the pool. took a shower, got into some pj's and picked at my dinner. Can you believe a person can get too tired to eat? Well I was.
Tried to watch TV. I just wanted to sleep.
Set the Genie to record all the show that come on Sunday night and went to bed.

Woke up Monday morning stiff and achy. I took the day off, did nothing. Oh I finally did go to the pool. Messed around the house a little. looked at the jewelry supplies and covered them up, I'll be ready to work on more pieces later this week.
Today I have to go to the grocery store and bank, few other stops to make.
It's another hot day, getting into the 90's all week.
I'll get out, do what needs to be done and home in the A/C before the heat really hits.
I don't take Titan in the small car. His doggies seat doesn't really fit as good as the van.
Well Spark friends, this blog gives you the low down on a day at a craft, art show.
Have three more out door ones to do. Then it's inside for the Xmas shows.
Those are easier as they usually have tables to rent, no canopy needed, just your displays, and supplies, and the jewelry.

I will start to make more ,later this week. I need a few days break. I defiantly know what I need to work on.
Got a lot of positive feed back from customers.
Surprisingly even some men stopped to compliment me on the composition and design of some pieces.
one that got a lot of attention.
A couple looked at this and husband mentioned he really liked it, she did too. Later he came back and passed me a business card with a note saying he would contact me about getting it to surprise his wife.

Back has been acting up. Too much sitting and lifting. Even though during the day I walked around a lot and tried not to sit too long. Sitting compresses my spine and the injured disk making it hurt. Could hardly walk yesterday.
Once it even locked in place, caught me by surprise. Thanks for some muscle relaters and pain pills.

So I'm off for a walk. Be sure take my phone with me, encase i have to call for a ride.
Everyone enjoy the reminder of the Summer.
Stay focused but be flexible.
You want to enjoy life.
Peace and Love
Tisha

Hi Tisha, What beautiful Jewelery you make and I love every necklace you shared with us but like June also especially love the one the hubby wanted to surprise his wife with, has to be my ultimate favorite piece. Do you have a website where people can buy your jewelery, if so please give me your website's name. . .They would make very special unique gifts for my friends and family and of coarse myself. You sure have a lot of energy as it would be too much for me to be in those Art Shows. It goes to show you (me) how all those strength training exercises you do have given you the strength and stamina to be able to do these outdoor shows. You live such a good rich life and I'm so happy you do. You're always going to be an inspiration for me as honestly Tisha you got it all, talent, beauty, health, happiness, etc. I don't know if you now have a BF or now but if you don't you'll have one eventually. You're just too cute and so much fun to be around, I can tell that from your wonderful blogs and things you put in the friend feed. Keep smiling and enjoying life to the fullest. I'm so happy you're on a Team with me and I wish there were other good role models but you take the "cake" my friend. Continue to take very good care of Special You.

Hugs & Love,

Jill

emoticon YOUR JEWELRY IS BEAUTIFUL!! I did craft fairs for many years, my last major craft being wood burned items. My little grandson spent many Saturdays helping me set up, minding the table and folding up at night. It wasn't always too profitable, but always fun, always hard work, but worth it! Meeting the people was the best part, as you know. Wish you all the best. enjoy! emoticon

Tisha, What beautiful jewelry, you are so talented. I would not even know where to begin to pick the one I liked the best. I do like the one where the husband wants to buy it for his wife. It is so different and just beautiful. You must be exhausted after all of that. I relax after coming back from visiting Emma and taking things into her, stopping at restaurants and then the drive home. I am glad that you listened to your body, as I know with lifting heavier items you are going to feel it. I know that I do. I would leave the van packed so you don't have to unload and load again if your van is in a safe place. Health Risk Assessment, And A Few Thrift Finds

Wednesday, July 09, 2014

A couple of times a year, I have to fill out a Health Risk Assessment. It gives my insurance company a better understanding of what care I might need.
It starts out with :"In general what would you say your health is?"
Excellent...Very Good...Good...Fair...Poor.
July 2014, Very good.
July 2009, POOR

Compared o a year ago:
Much better...Slightly better...About the same...Slightly worse..much worse.?
July 2014, Slightly better
July 2009, MUCH WORSE.

Here are some common activities I might do during a normal day.
Do you need assistance in any of the following. Answer YES or NO.
1. Shopping, preparing meals..NO.
2. Cleaning home? NO
3. Showering or dressing yourself/ NO
4. Getting up or down or in, out of chair or bed? NO
5. Eating or drinking? NO.

Back in 2009, the answer would have been YES on 1 through 4. Eating came too often. I could still eat, But I was starting to choke on food. My throat was getting too fat.

I have to answer questions about my stability, My activities. Am I able to exercise? YES. Do I exercise. YES. Do I maintain a healthy weight. YES. If not am I trying to have a healthy weight. YES.
Do I smoke, NO. Quit 24 years ago.
Have diabetes, NO. In 2009, YES.
Have an annual blood sugar test. YES. It's Normal. In 2009, it was HIGH.
High Cholesterol, NO. In 2009, YES
Hypertension, high blood pressure, NO. It's 110/75 . In 2009, 150/95

In comparing my health after losing 189 lbs, it's changed my life. FOR THE BETTER. How many women are in better health and fitness at 72 than they were at 66. The truth is I'm in better shape now at 72 than i was at 55. That's saying something.
Everyday I get up in the morning, from grooming myself to walking outside, getting in my van. I feel and move like a different women from the crippled, obese one I was back in 2009.
I do want to thank all my Spark friends for the support you give me on my exercise minutes. In the way I take time, make the time to exercise in some way or fashion everyday, I am able too. Which is almost 99.9% of the year. Smile!!

There's no secret to doing it. You just have to make up your mind that it's important. Let nothing deter you from doing it. After a while it becomes as routine as brushing your teeth. You feel like something is off if you haven't walked or exercised ..
I used to go to the gym five and six days a week. Sometimes twice a day. I don't do that as much anymore. I love going for walks, hikes. Sometimes by myself. If I want to make good time. Then It's Titan's time to walk , He likes to sniff and stop, smell the trees. It's more exercise for me and time for us to inter act with others, who are also walking their dogs.
Sometimes I think having a dog, is a good way to get you up and out. Just a stroll around the neighborhood is better than laying around the house.

Throughout my obese years, with numerous aches and pains, I knew every excuse NOT to exercise. Now I know that even if I do have some aches , there is something that I can do. Maybe not as vigorous , but there is no more excuses.

Have discovered that many times some exercise, moving around will reduce the stiffness and pain. I'm not saying there is never a time that I could be in so much pain, any movement would be too much. Never say Never.!!

I do have a bad back. But the doctor encourages me to exercise. Last time it went out, I was moaning around here, and thinking of just laying in bed or the couch and taking it easy. But I knew that wasn't what was called for. So took a deep breath and went through the movements, the therapist had set up for me. It hurt for a few minutes, but gradually felt better. All in all, the recovery time was shorter than when I used to let the pain rule.

I have been working on some new jewelry pieces for a Art fair later this month.
I spent a few months, not doing any designing. Just didn't feel it. Then I started to have dreams of new pieces. It's fun to have an idea and see the end results.
Later this week will post some pictures of what I have been making.

It's been a few weeks since I went thrift shopping. I really don't need anything.
Had a couple of customers who had me redo their closets, weed out unwanted, unworn clothes and find pieces that they could add to what they had.
I just got a call from one of the women asking me to get some fall/winter things.
So that's something to look forward to.

I have bought a few nice pieces for myself. More tops ,skirts, and leather beige jacket. I love leather too.
What I do love shopping for is shoes and handbags. I guess you could say I collect them.
After spending 5 to 6 yeas wearing these two ugly pair of shoes during my obese years, I wasted no time getting get back into fashion.
Here a photo of the UGLY shoes.

The following photo shows some of the latest heels and hand bags. Also a couple of belts. love belts. Never wore them when my waist was 58 in. But now at 33 in. belts look good.

These are some of my latest finds. love the high heel suede boots and snake skin blue print heels.
The four black leather NEW Men's jackets, got for $2.00 each. Very lucky day.
The item that cost the most is the red/black snakeskin D&G handbag. $12.00
Everything else was mostly $2.00 , couple of $4.00 items. The New Nike's $8.99
The baby blue bike was FREE. Am I lucky or what???? Got it from Trash area.
Well it's time for more unique designs to emerge from my creative mind. Back to work.
Hope everyone is enjoying the Summer. Even when things don't go as we like, it all evens out in the end.
Take care,
Love and Peace.
Tisha

Like others somehow I missed this awesome blog. You've added years to your life Tisha and are younger and more active than most people half your age. Gosh I kind of forgot how much weight you've lost and OMG it was almost 200#s, you're an amazing woman for that accomplishment and seem to have little problem in keeping it off thanks to your now healthy lifestyle. I'm going to have to commit to this WL Journey instead of just wishing and hoping as that just leads me to further disappointment as well as no weight lost. All this year it seems all I've been doing is "spinning my wheels" and I just need to exercise more, no matter what and eat healthier with the right portion sizes, etc. I have to make this Dream of being a normal weight again come true, but it's all up to me to do it and I will. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

What was your defining moment into losing weight? My friend told me hers was when she looked at herself in a store front window, she stopped & could not really believe it was her, my other friend is when her Mom passed away from obesity at a young age , and it scared her that she did not want to leave her children . You can be so very proud of yourself, thank you for posting

What a blessing to be an example of what you can do when you put your mind to it. That weight does cause a lot of health issues. Some people really don't realize that. I know I feel so much MORE energized since the weight came off. I also changed my way of thinking. I used to think there was no hope for me. Yes this Christian thought about my body like that. I'm SO glad He led me here to Spark. Now I can glean on successes like You Tisha. You are always an inspiration and I thank God for putting you in my life. You always make me smile. I definitely have to check out these resale shops while I'm in Bay area in CA. They are all around. Thanks for sharing your GREAT health with us and your finds. You ROCK!

What do you think is the healthiest food to eat?

Wednesday, June 04, 2014

"I think the healthiest food is a humongous, homemade sandwich because it's healthy and delicious. Mostly because it's good." Grade 5.

The question ,"What do you think is the heathiest food", was asked to grade school children , Pre-K through 6th grade.
One wonders if it reflects what they eat or just think is healthy.

"I think chicken nuggets because you dip it into sweet and sour sauce." Pre-K.

"Cantaloupe" Grade 4.

"Broccoli, cabbage,veggies, fruit." Grade 3.

"Meat, it has lots of vitamins and oranges because they have vitamin C and that's good for you." Kindergarten

""Jelly beans, Every kid can last on jelly beans," Grade 3.

"Green food." Grade 3.

"I think it's broccoli." Grade 1.

" Vegetables are healthy because they give you strength." Kindergarten.

" I think the healthiest food is the one that tastes the worst. I'm not sure what it is because I haven't had all the foods there are. But I wish it was ice cream." Grade 4.

"I think the healthiest food is fatty bacon because it has protein." Grade 4.

"Pickles because they are juicy, green and healthy." Grade 4.

"Banana cake. Bananas are good and healthy." Grade 4.

"Spam and eggs. They keep my body ready for the next thing that happens in life." Grade 6.

The healthiest food is ribs." Kindergarten

"Grilled cheese sandwich." Grade 4.

"Vegetables are healthy because they give you strength." Kindergarten.

"I think the healthiest food to eat is bugs, but I would never eat them." Grade 4.

"Healthiest food is a salad." Grade 4.

"French fries and ketchup because you get two healthy vegetables in one." Grade 6.

"A salad or some Mexican food because it has many vitamins. Or a sandwich made with organic foods." Grade 5.

"Candy because I can run three miles." Grade 3.

" An apple, because an apple a day keeps the doctor away." Grade 4.

"Apples and fish." Grade 4.

"Fruit, vegetables, meat and V8." Grade 6

"Carrots are the healthiest food because they help your eyesight so you can see through walls." Grade 4.

" I think it's cucumbers with lime and salt because lime is a fruit and cucumber is a vegetable." Grade 5.

" Taco salad because it has meat, fruit and vegetables." Grade 4.

" The healthiest food to eat is everything from the food pyramid because no one food is healthy alone." Grade 6.

Some of the children mentioned strawberries, cherries, raspberries, blueberries , rutabagas, and celery.

All in all they expressed what they felt was healthiest and most of them got it right. Even the ones who thought fatty bacon or fries and ketchup didn't have to be totally wrong,
A little bit of all food groups can be OK. Even the occasional piece of candy. The child who answered "candy" knew it gave him a boost of energy. Just didn't realize what happens when that boost wares out.

Hopefully getting the children talking and thinking about what are healthy foods will continue to motivate them into healthy choices.

Hope you enjoyed reading what's in the minds of young children,

Cheers!!
Tisha

What surprised me was no child said "pizza'. For me that is a total food group. You get a little of everything.
Maybe pizza has became an adult food.
I really think the kids put a lot of thought into their answers and tried to mention a food they really thought was healthy.
Of course there are always those "Kids say the darndest things." The Art Linkletter's show.

Dress For LESS and Have FUN!!!!!!!

Monday, April 14, 2014

With age comes wisdom. Or at least that's what we hear.
I have come to believe it's true in how much I spend on fashion.
Or maybe it's the fact that I can't afford to spend thousands like I once did.

I really believe it's because I have come to realize that you don't need to dress in designer clothes. Most people can't tell, after all the label is on the inside.
Unless its a designer handbag, and then it could be a fake.
Women feel the need to ware designer clothes for their own insecurities.

From my own experience, designer clothes or having more clothes than I could ware gave me a sense of being important. Of having arrived, never being looked upon as the little girl in the hand made dress.
What we carry with us from childhood to our adult life can shape how we feel and live our lives.
We know that from many of us struggling with being over weight.
Obesity that we started out with, or that we developed . Usually brought on by feeling of loneliness or depression. A feeling of not being worthy.
I don't want to knock our families, but many of us carry baggage that started with someone or some event from our formative years.

So now you want to know where am I going with this?

My life in a nut shell.
Country girl, not much money, poor. But did have all the elements I needed to achieve.
Broken home, raised by Grandparents.
Smart but naive. Felt my back ground , where I lived wasn't as good as the rich city girls..
Worked hard to over come. Got top grades, always trying to be the best. Wanting to be the one that fitted in.
Cheer leading, modeling, still didn't fill the void.

In a miss guided way thought material wealth would be the answer.
After two failed marriages, knew all the material wealth would not give me the inner peace and confidence I desired.
I had to find my own way. Couldn't rely on someone else or some article of expensive clothing to give me happiness.

Ditched the corporate job , expensive clothes.
Started my own business. Moved to a relaxed , laid back beach lifestyle. Found I was comfortable in shorts, flats, jeans and t shirts.
Maybe I was just a country girl at heart.
I still enjoyed fashion, but it wasn't as important. Gradually I came to enjoy the fact that I didn't have to dress to impress. When the occasion arose, I knew I could pull it together.
My daughter and I found the outlet stores. Some of the consignment shops. looking for pieces that could enhance our wardrobe.
The fact that I could find a $300.00 dress for under $100.00 was thrilling..
Of course today for me to spend #100.00 for one item would be outrageous.
But back then I had handbags that cost over #1,500.00. I probably had a small house sitting on the selves of my closet.

Jump ahead to early 2000, weight was piling on like long lost relatives after you win the lottery.
I had no interest in clothes. While wearing 1X all the way to 5X, I dressed just to be covered. It might has well have been a blanket. fashion was the last thing on my mind.
That changed in 2010. I embarked on a weight loss journey.

By the fall I had to buy smaller sized clothes. These were to be transition clothes, until I reached my goal weight. I then planned a huge shopping trip.

I went to the Goodwill, found some lovely clothes. As I continued to lose, I would need a smaller size. I would return the ones I no longer needed.
I started to wonder why I would want to spend department store prices for clothes when I could dress in the fantastic items I was finding?

In some of my earlier blogs I have pictured some pieces, believe
me they are very nice. Some items I find, still have new tags on the,. By buying most of my major pieces at thrift stores, I am able to shop Victoria Secret and a few other places to buy something the thrift store doesn't have.

In early February this year, I started to think Spring fashion. as much as I love the fall season, I had had enough boots, sweaters, bundled up in coats, hats, scarves. I wanted bright colors, light fabric's. New styles.

I started to look through my fashion magazines, check the designers for what te Spring/Summer colors and looks were trending.
Here's what I read:

The top 10 fashion trends,

1. Pretty in Pink. Number one color for Spring 2014 is pink., blush, radiant orchid , all shades of pink, but no neon pink. Unless you are a small child, or it's a stripe on your athletic shoe.
Seems there is a shade of pink flattering for everyone. Whatever the age, skin tone, hair color, when in doubt go pink.
But there is also orange, pale blue, green even yellow, the usual pastel colors.

2. Everything coming up floral; The flower trend is everywhere. dresses , shoes, tops, pants.

3. Mix patterns. just stay in the same color range.

4. Mules rule. Open toed mules freshen up a summer look. Gladiator sandal's, canvas espadrilles, any wrap ankle or buckle shoe, hot.

5. Go sideways. Horizontal stripes are hotter than ever.

6. Sparkle, shine. Metallic are major. mixing metals , like gold, silver, very in.

7.Fringe, used on purses. Some trim on clothes, but don't over do.

8. Black and white . Never gets old. spice it up with bold accessories. Zebra is hot.

9. Animal prints, still trending. but more subtle. one piece, blouse, pants, shoes. not an entire outfit.

10. Maxi skirts, dress. Angle hemmed, or straight. Not too full, no broomstick skirts.

I did an inventory of what I had for Spring/Summer 2014, quite a lot. But tired of some pieces, so donated back to Value Village.

Here are some fashion trends :

The maxi skits. Black white tops. Pink clutch bag, cost $695.00 Blush pink heels, cost $165.00 .Orange pants, yellow, pink, orange sheer top. carves, hats, bags, in Spring pastel colors, of blush, pink. green. blue.

Here are some of my thrift fashion buys.

Pink Orchid leather jacket. Cost was $359.00, I paid $15.00.
Pink bag, $.99, blush wedges, $2.00. hot pink sandal's, $2.00. pink shoes, $3.49
Jewelry , Designs by Tisha.

Pink leather vest, $3.99
Pink floral dress, $5.99
Dark pink top.,$2.00 worn with skirt I already had bought 2 years ago for $3.99

maxi blk/wh skirt, has polka dot edge at bottom, found a polka dot top to ware.
Skirt $3.49, top $2.00. Of course can ware a multitude of tops with skirt.
Skirt with a print top. Mixing prints, stay in same color's.
A group of black and white items . Bag was new, original cost over $100.00, I got it for $2.00. Shoes anywhere from $2.00 to $4.99. My jewelry.
Mules, 2.00, orange, #5.99, Kenneth Cole metallic wedges, $2.00. Chinese laundry brown heels, $2.00, red Guess heels, $2.00, bright red wedges, $2.00.
I posted the red high heels and bag before but here a better photo

Black with blue/green floral is lovely at $4.99. Paired it with a white Dress Barn jacket, $3.99. To change it up paired it with a black jacket I had.

The black white zebra print top.

Orange denim skinny jeans, brand new, $3.99, tee, $1.99, jean jacket had cost me $ 4.99
lands End swimsuit, still had tag, really nice, $5.99
Sketchers, shape ups, Fantastic to walk in. $4.49
Animal print tops, anywhere from $2.00 to $4.49. Green clutch, $2.00.
White heels, $2.00.
Gorgeous sheer coverup. $2.00. Can also be worn over a tank with jeans, to go out. Make great resort wear.

And last but not least the beautiful red Jones of New York leather jacket that had a tag of $399.00. I got it for $15.99.

It's nice to have a good choice of clothes to choose from. Nice to separate the seasons so when you do want an item it's easy to find.
You can dress in the best of clothes but you have to feel comfortable in what you ware. .
Find a style, build on it. Keep items in good condition.
Nothing looks worst than ripped seams, pins holding something together.
Keep all your accessories in good shape. no run down heels, scuffed toes.
Don't have to match handbags with shoes, so get adventurous.
Clothes don't make the person but how you present yourself says it all.

I am wearing the maxi skirt tonight to a ladies night out dinner at Outback.
The floral dress will wear on Easter. If cool. black jacket. Warm day , white.
I hope you all have as much fun as i do shopping and experimenting with fashion.
Most of all my fantastic thrifty buys are found at Value Village. They have a colored 50% off tag every week. on Thursday the color of tag changes. Any items that was 50% off and still not sold can be bought for $2.00. On every Wednesday there is 40% seniors discount. Sometime it pays to be 72. Smile!!
Peace and Love.
Tisha

Tisha, Loved your honest blog with all your interesting background information. I would never have guessed you had issues as a result of or during your childhood. To me, if anyone has it all together you seem to. I appreciate all the fashion information and I bet no matter where you shop you are the best dressed Lady there. You've been blessed with a fantastic sense of fashion and know what's good for you to wear. I loved all the pictures you so kindly shared with us. You sure purchases your clothes & accessories at a small fraction of their original purchase price. You're going to look great in your pink Easter dress as it's so pretty and stylish & it'll show off your great figure. I'd love to be out of the plus sizes as my fashion choices wouldn't be so limited & I would look so much better in regular sizes. I've not given up on myself being a normal/healthy weight in the near futre. The last few months due to circumstances I lost my focus but I'm gearing up slowly to start losing weight again with more exercise and eating healthy with fewer carbs, sugar & junk food. Thank you for writing such a terrific fun blog.

Thank you for my lovely Easter Basket & "Girl Scout's Honor" I didn't eat the chocolate Easter Bunny all by myself. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

wow love your clothes and the choices you bought. Most of our thrift stores are not tidy and I honestly cant be bothered to go through bins. If it is hanging then sure.
But have to say love the necklace you made in the picture with the white purse. the one in the center that has the round pc at the bottom.

I have never wanted to really shop even as a teen, I wasn't into clothes and if I ever have money to spend I just wouldn't ever let myself buy anything costly. Most expensive item I own is a leather jacket tthat hubby insisted I buy for myself, and was on sale for 199. lol. Guess it is a good thing I don't want expensive stuff as sure cant do it now! LOL

love your wardrobe and I just may go bargain hunting soon.

WOW Tisha, I have been waiting on this blog. What a fantastic wardrobe you have put together. I need to come shopping where you live LOL I just can't seem to find many items as great as yours. Of course I am in a larger size too so that is going to account for it. Tisha, I love everything especially the pink dress at the top, all your outfits look fantastic. I know the Maxi dresses and skirts are in style, you see them everywhere and so is lace, cotton, nylon, all kinds of lace. You know I am jealous of those heels you are wearing especially those red shoes!! I hope you have an enjoyable evening. You will be the talk of Outback tonight! Have fun tonight! emoticon emoticon June
