Lost in Translation

Wednesday, November 26, 2014

Wong Chow calls into work and says" I can't come in, sick, got headache, stomach ache, legs hurt, I no work."

The boss says," You know Wong, I really need you today. When I feel sick like you do, I go to my wife and tell her to give me sex. That makes everything better and I go to work. You try that."

Two hours later Wong calls again.

"Boss I do what you say and I feel great. I be at work soon. Boss ,you sure got a nice home.

The End.

Hope no one is offended by this story. I thought it funny.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
If you're traveling, take care.

Peace and Love.

A Dog's Story

Friday, November 21, 2014

A guy is driving around the back woods of Virginia and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty style house:"Talking Dog For Sale." He knocks on the door and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

" You talk." he asks.

"Yep," the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says, "So what's your story?"

The Lab looks up and says, "Well I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping."
"I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in. I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. "I got married , had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asked the owner what he wants for the dog.

"Ten dollars," the owner says.

"Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?"

"Because he's a liar. He never did any of that stuff."

I don't know where this story came from, someone sent it to me a long time ago.
I thought it funny. I still laugh when I read it.
Hope it gave you a laugh too.

Cheers, Tisha

It's Never Too Late.

Friday, November 14, 2014

Here I am at 68, 335 lbs, . 235 lbs, after 100 lbs loss. Then goal 135 lbs.

When I embarked on this weight loss, some women I knew thought I was wasting my time. I should lose a little, but don't try to go back to who I was before the weight gain. After all the time had passed. I should accept that women change, we get old. gain weight, hormones change. I would only make myself miserable when I realized I was fighting a loosing battle.
One women even said, "There are women dying at your age, so just be happy you're still here and enjoy what time you have."

These well meaning women had bought in to the stereotype that at a certain age or time in our lives we have to become what society, the media, clothing manufactures have perpetuated for years.
Women get old, gain weight, become matronly or more like an 1900 grandmother image. Start wearing polyester pants with stretch waist bands, wear tops that have cats, dog, birds on them. Skirts with matching sweaters, or vest sweaters. Usually with flowers.
I worked in a women department store, I know what we sold and what the biggest sellers were.
You don't have to fit in to anyone's stereotype . Not till you are ready to assume that persona.

I was never anxious to disclose the image of me at 335 lbs. I am a vary private person, and also vain. I hated the way I looked. The way I felt.
I didn't know the person I would see reflected back at me in the mirror.
In my mind I was still the vivacious, energetic, attractive blond of past years.
It was like the Body Snatchers had taken over. The Tisha I knew was just waiting to be released.

It did take me a little time to adjust to the fact that 15 years had passed and my life was going to be different. But it was going to be a life. One filled with enjoyment, good health and a purpose of reaching out to other senior women, and men with the message that it's never too late in life to make changes for the better
In 2012 I did apply for People magazine weight loss issue. But I didn't fit the demographics. They are looking for young to middle aged women.
When I researched there was hardly any women past 60 shown in a weight loss /health magazine.

So I was limited to my local area, a few weight loss seminars I attended as a speaker.

A month or so ago was asked if interested in submitting my story to First Women Magazine.
I sent them pictures, brief bio, and a message that I wanted to reach out to others in my age bracket and give them the hope and motivation that even in your late 60's it's not to late to make changes that enhance your life.

A few weeks passed and I heard that they were interested. needed more info.
By that time I was involved in some thing, didn't get back right away.
A week went by and I got an e-mail telling I had been chosen. It was green light.
All ahead go.
I had been ready to tell them take me out of the running, I was too busy in other parts of my life.
I am a firm believer in fate and destiny so, I feel comfortable doing this article.
I feel it was meant to be,

I just got a email telling me about the photo shoot.
There will be a photographer, a stylist, makeup artist and hair stylist.
I'm too chose two outfits , minimal jewelry. No dark colors. They sent some pictures of what would be good clothing choices.
They wanted to know if I had good light at my home they would come here to do the shoot. Will take about 4 hours.
I don't, small apartment, medium light.
But my sister in law has a gorgeous place with lots of light, she offered it as a location, so that's it.
take place next week, or before Thanksgiving. Need to have photos in to the editor by Nov. 30.
The issue will be out 2/9/2015.

I used to model. Was a Clairol model. Janzen , and White Stag to name a few.
I was still doing some modeling in my 40's. Here's a picture

That Tisha is long gone. But I'm very happy with the one that I am right now.
Looks change, mind grows, we adjust and hopefully we are better people as time goes by.

Just remember if it's 10 lbs or 200 lbs, you have to take the first step.
And if it is 200 lbs, just keep on taking those steps. You will be so glad you did.
I never said it was easy, but it's so worth it.Celebrate 73 next month. Life's Good!!
Peace and Love Tisha emoticon emoticon

Congrats on getting picked for the magazine. You deserve it. You are a role model for all of us older ones, as well as the younger ones! You are so right--we might not be as young as we once were, but we are enjoying these years without the burden of added weight and the limitations that imposes upon us. Sometimes I wish I had lost weight when I was younger, so I could enjoy looking better more, without all the wrinkles and loose skin, but I am so grateful for feeling better, and being healthy enough to do everything I want, I don't mind so much not being as young as I once was. Keep us posted on the magazine and when it will come out. I will be first in line to buy a copy!!!

Tisha, as you know you are quite an inspiration to me! Congratulations on being chosen, I am so happy for you! I agree with you about the age, it seems that everything you read or even if you want info on make-up or anti-aging products, it seems like they tell you up to the 50's. I guess they think you cease to exist after the 50"s. This is a stand up and cheer for us 70's girls! You will do us proud! We show a new look to the 70's woman! Tisha, I understand how you feel. I didn't gain weight until I retired from nursing. I always looked good in my clothes and could always turn a head. I have done some changes and am really serious about the weight loss at this point. No more playing around for me! Tisha, you look fantastic. I cannot wait to read "your story". You will feel like a movie star with all the staff fussing over you. lol Enjoy and let everyone know life continues after 70 and that you can lose weight even as a senior woman! emoticon June

Tisha you give me hope! emoticon I'm 64 and been in the obese category for almost 20 years...before that I was in the normal range most of my life, but then went into overweight and finally stuck in obese. I was never a model at 5 feet tall nor a beauty queen so I have no old glam photos- but I looked cute and would never have dreamed I'd ever be heavy. Lately even though I know better from being here on Spark I think at my age maybe things won't change. You are an amazing inspiration and so positive. I would love to know your entire story some time or what you feel you can share about how you gained it and what all you did to lose it. The timing for the magazine sounds perfect- meant to be. I can't wait to read it. emoticon

Your friends years ago sure were discouraging and weren't concerned about your health, etc.. Maybe they were heavy themselves and didn't want to see you lose weight and look far better than they did? I have a very overweight friend and she's\so heavy she has to get on some kind of commercial scale to be weighted. Her whole life has become centered around food and every time I call her it seems she talks about the latest Restaurant she's been to or a food item she bought. I guess you'd say she has OCD when it comes to enjoying lots of food, eating out and talking about every time we talk.

I'm so proud of you as you're still young looking and youthful thinking. You look fabulous and I'm sure everyone thinks you're a lot younger than you are. You always inspire me but right now due to my home Life with my son who has a severe mental illness this year has been horrible and very stressful for me. I pray by next year he will improve enough that I feel more motivated and can focus again on losing weight and being healthier.

Wow, how exciting to be a model again and tell your story in a magazine. I definitely will get a copy of it and put it up on my fridge and it will remind me that even when I'm 67 years old I can and will do this for myself. Thank you for another wonderful blog.

Hugs & Love, emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Congratulations on a great story - and a great weight loss. I did it in two steps - about 90 pounds, then two or three years gaining 20 pounds back, and then another 100 pounds. Now I'm 10 years older than you, at my high school weight, but definitely not at my high school composition. On the other hand, I'm still walking on my own knees and several medical problems have corrected themselves.

You will be an inspiration to other women.

You are a big inspiration for me. I am 68 and need to lose 140 lbs, I have started the SPARK program twice and dropped out but this time it feels different and I know I will stay on track

I too have had people tell me to just live with the way I am and embrace it! and that when your my age it is impossible to lose weight and that I am not realistic. While I do not expect nor want to win beauty contests again, I do want to be able to go off my Blood Pressure med AND have more energy. The icing on the cake (oops, must get my mind off of cake) would be to be able to wear a tucked in shirt.

You have truly given me inspiration and hope. I can't wait until the magazine comes out. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Summer Almost Over, So Far....

Saturday, August 23, 2014

Summer 2014 is coming to an end.
The unwritten rule is after Labor day, summer 's over.
It probably seems like that. With kids back in school. Most summer vacations over.
It's really the time I like to vacation. Crowds down and weather comfortable. The extreme hot season passed. But all likely hood i'll stay close to home.
Not as interested in flying anywhere these days. Too complicated.
Wouldn't mind taking a train trip.

When I was in grade school the teacher on first day had us stand up and tell how we spent our summers.
I went to a small country grade school. They could do things like that back then.
Counting all four grades there were probably 24 children.

Most kids talked about what was happening on the farm. The swimming hole. catching bugs. maybe a trip to Grandparents.

I got to tell of a train trip to Nebraska to visit relatives with my sister and Grandmother. We rode for three days, had a sleeping car and told of all the buffalo and animals we saw. And the rattlesnake hunt we went on. Oh the boys were interested in that. The girls not so much.

And of course the country fair, but the biggest and best was and still is the State Fair. All the rides and food and carnival games. .

Living in the State capital, we have a big State Fair, started yesterday, runs through Labor Day.

Back in my days, the State Fair was even bigger and better then it is now. Of course back when I was a child everything seemed bigger and better.

My friend and I are planning to go next week. Maybe catch who's performing, all depends.
We like to walk around see the animals, eat some (Once a year) fair food. Usually split some over fried, no nutritional valued, loaded with empty calorie food. Oh well what can I say, It's the fair.

I missed out this year , by not knowing the added category of contests. "The Bling Contest.". You know I love my bling. I have or can create a very over the top bling item. Next year, if the good Lord is willing, I will enter that. think ,might enter the chocolate cake contest. I'll keep you informed. Smile!!

This summer I planted a container garden, have it crowded on my patio. I plan on planting more next year. Can move the small dog fence out a few feet and make more room.
I want more Japanese eggplants. Only have two this year and it's not enough. I realized one cuke plant is enough. I'm not making pickles, so don't need too many cukes.. Tomatoes are good. I have cherry and Early Girls. Need more peppers. Plant some real hot ones. And of course all the herbs. Always plant some flowers. They attract the bees, who pollinate the veggies.

I though with all the hot weather the tomatoes would ripen too fast. But just read tomatoes ripen best at 70 to 75 degrees. Too hot they don't. So with the temps getting cooler, looks like I'll have plenty of tomatoes. I have zucchini everyday. But still plant a few more next year. try for some butternut squash too.
It is work to have a garden, but the rewards, the fresh food, can't get any fresher, is worth it.

I wrote earlier about the Art Fair. Posted some of my jewelry. Well I have been working on more, here's a few of the latest.

I loaded these photos on the computer, did a sideshow and they looked pretty good. One a little out of focus. But when I loaded on to Spark they seem dark. I might have to get a new camera, or set up some better lighting. I need good photos for Etsy, and my jewelry page, Panache Designs by Tisha. Will be up soon.
Busy writing descriptions on all pieces. I loaded these on to my photo page too, can see larger images there.

Leaving for a Italian Festival today. plan on doing a lot of walking. maybe a little eating too. Then we will drive to the coast for a few days. Friends doing the Hood to Coast race and they will be staying, big outdoor party tomorrow. Hope the coast weather is reasonably nice.

The dogs are clamoring to go. But will stay home till we leave for the coast. then they can run on the sand. So much fun.
All in all the summer has been pretty good. Weather beautiful, if not a little too hot for me. Don't know what happened to the "Original California Golden Girl", used to worship the sun. If I didn't lay out an tan I didn't want to be seen. But now it's A/C and shade. Not sure if it's age or I'm wiser now. Smile!1

Take care everyone.
Enjoy the rest of summer.
I'm going to try, but looking forward to getting out my Fall clothes. Do a Fall Thrift Fashion blog as soon as Fall arrives.
Peace and Love,

When I was going up, we always went to the Ohio State Fair, for at least one day. It was one of the real high points of the year, and I remember that the radio always had "The Monkey Wrapped His Tail Around the Flagpole, and other special Fail band pieces. I haven't been to a state fair for years - and I think I will watch and go next year. The Florida State Fail didn't seem as big when I did go once, but I recall reading once hat the Ohio fair was the largest in the country (if that was true). It's too far away for me to go back now.

I hope you had a great time. emoticon

It's horribly hot and miserable here but it feels like summer is already over for me. August has always been a very depressing month for me. I am loving my A/c and shade too!

A vacation in cold weather to a warmer climate is my kind of vacation.

One of our state fairs is on right now and it is too hot to enjoy it. I love the salt water taffy.

I loved your container garden!

Your jewelry is beautiful!!

    Love this blog! Very interesting!
I, too, love the Fair, but DH who is a "farm boy" doesn't like to go. And we live in state capital where fair is very big, but I have never gone.
Daughter lives in OH state capital where I loved going to fair with her. Always remember the year John Denver entertained us. What a show he had!!!
We don't have much luck with container gardens, not sure why, but envy you having all the fresh veggies.
Your jewelry is exquisite, I must say.
Hope you have fun at the coast! (I loved the Oregon coast when visiting there.
I'm like you, would like to take a train trip, but not sure when or where!

Tisha, an enjoyable blog, as always. The yield from your garden sounds delicious. I am making eggplant lasagna tomorrow, in the crockpot, from Sparkpeople cookbook. Your jewelry is lovely - I am particularly attracted to the pieces with pearls. Enjoy all the good times coming up with your friends, especially Hood To Coast, the original, and biggest, of all the crazy relay races. I watched a documentary on Hood to Coast a couple years ago - it was really entertaining. Take care.

Tisha, your garden is cute! We've tried growing a few things in containers in the past, and I don't know if it is because we get so terribly hot or lack of a little shade, but things don't produce well at all. We may try again next year. We have a nice sized patio we could easily put pots on. Love the pics of your jewelry, too. Have a great weekend and enjoy the Fair!!

My favorite fair food is the Funnel Cake...and of course it's even better with ice cream, chocolate syrup and whipped cream! emoticon

Your patio garden is great! It's difficult to tell from photos, what containers do you use?
Your jewelery is stunning! Thank you for sharing. Your travels sound like lots of fun!

Always enjoy your posts, Tish. Your jewelry is just stunning. My son (who is in fashion) tells me grey and black are the colors this fall paired with neutrals... LOL
