Was off to a great start....

Okay so I was off to a great start. I joined on Jan 29, and officially started my healthy journey on Jan 30. It seemed like things were looking up. I was tempted a few times to splurge on some junk food but I didn't give in. Unfortunately, Saturday evening I was tempted again and gave in. I first said okay I will allow myself a few fries, then that lead to more fries, pizza, ice cream, etc. Well, now it is Monday, and I have been struggling today as well. The morning started off good, but before the evening time rolled in I was back into the unhealthy junk. I was just sitting here and I began to replay all the bad food choices I made this weekend. How did I get here? What am I doing? What was I thinking? Do I really want to change? These were some of the questions that ran through my mind. I decided to come here and blog about it. It seems like it is so easy to fall off the wagon. I am just going to try my best to start fresh tomorrow. I knew I would have struggles but it hasn't even been a week....

    You have rec'd some great advice. Never give up, even after you give in, never give up completely. Just get back at it again.

Each time it will get easier. And then when you are many days and weeks free of the junk, you will be at a real turning point. It takes a while to get all the cravings out of your system. And the only way to do it, is to cut it all out for a period of time.

    It happens. Seriously, we all have the same struggle, sometimes well into weight loss. Just start fresh and keep going, and expect many more of these bumps along the way. It is a lifestyle change, and it takes time, trial and error.

    You have to remember that this is a journey! I've been doing this for years, and I still have days like the one that you are describing. It's all about getting back on track and not beating yourself up. You've got this! Goodluck on your journey!

  You say it hasn't even been a week -- but the first week is the hardest. Especially if you kick off that first week by trying to be perfect -- it just doesn't work that way. Every so often you'll read about someone who quit all his bad habits cold turkey, but most people simply don't work like that.

Especially if you are trying to make a major life change, I would recommend starting in stages. Maybe for one week make sure you eat a healthy breakfast every day. The next week do that and also have 4 servings of fresh vegetables/fruits a day. The next week add limits on eating out. Etc. Over time you will get to where you want to be health wise but you will be more likely to maintain the changes if you make them gradually.

    hey girl, havent heard from u in awhile! thought something happened to ya! anyway, i totally understand what youre going thru.. i cant seem to lose any weight at all since i joined WW then wuit after 5 days! I was having a rough time. but then last night i had a strawberry spiinach salad, man was it ever good! and then last night before bed i had apples with some non fat vanilla yogurt. yummo!

anyway, i hope things start looking up for you! i miss hearing from you!

    It's never easy when you first begin but you've made the largest step of all by trying to do something about your eating habits! You've got the right attitude in saying tomorrow is another day and you'll start over and try again. Good luck!

    The fact that you came to SparkPeople and are trying to figure it out instead of just completely falling off the wagon proves that you do want to change. There are so many times that I started and fell off the wagon completely the same week, and sometimes even the same day.

Change is hard. But when you want something, you pick yourself up and keep going. You don't throw in the towel just because you slipped. You can do this, and I PROMISE, it gets easier! The longer you are on plan for, the less it seems on plan and the more it seems like the new normal.

Make sure you aren't trying to do too much... being too restrictive with food and pushing yourself too hard with exercise is a good way to scare yourself off. Make small changes that you can live with your entire life, then you'll find success!

I found that quitting eating restaurant/fast food was necessary for me to change my lifestyle. I was addicted, and eating out was my trigger. I would allow myself a reward meal for doing so well on my diet, and that one meal would turn into days/weeks/months of binging. Figure out what your triggers are, then just say no.

There is a quote I've seen around Spark People multiple times and it says (basically), "Fall down 5 times, get up 6."

Your health and happiness are worth fighting for! It is so easy to just eat whatever you want, whenever you want it, but being overweight or in my case, obese, is not easy. You just have to decide, what struggle do you want to have: watching what you eat, or all of the sickness, pain, hurt, embarrassment, etc. of being overweight.
