The best thing

Saturday, November 20, 2010

Yoga has been the best thing to happen to me in recent years. It's been 8 weeks of 2.5 hours a week, and I feel 10 years younger.

My instructor Jeremy is a real inspiration. He knows how to encourage the class but at the same time, push us to go beyond what we've done before. I feel so thankful for the community Y and instructors like him.

Yay for yoga!

When I am able to get up off the floor unassisted, I may give Yoga a whirl. I'm glad you are loving it and it is doing likewise.

I agree wholeheartedly. I've started doing yoga less than 2 months ago and I only do 1 session a week, but still, I can feel the benefits. For me it's definitely the missing link. (Or at least one of them... :))

settling in

Saturday, October 16, 2010

I feel like I'm finally settling in to a new fitness routine:

Monday: swim, weights, walk.
Tuesday: yoga, walk.
Wednesday: swim, weights walk.
Thursday: yoga, walk.
Friday: walk.
Saturday: walk.
Sunday: nothing.

The flexibility and strength are slowly building. Feeling good! :)

Sounds like a winning mix of cardio and strength. Did you put into your fitness tracker? Mine helps keep me honest. I look my steps, Wii cardio and my upper, lower and core strength for the week.

Sounds good. My fitness routine got totally blown out of the water this month. I'm in the process of re-establishing this and making a new plan. Starting slowly. So far only my Saturdays and Sundays are set.
Keep it up.

So I've been going to the Y several times a week now, mostly to swim, do weights, or yoga. I'm loving the variety of exercise I'm getting with the Y membership. Having all drop-in classes rocks! I've been giving everything a try.

Last night I tried out Zumba. The instructor was fantastic, smiling the whole time, and obviously having fun. I was hopelessly uncoordinated and not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. Some of the moves were a bit hard on my ankles. Good workout though. I got a good sweat up. I don't think it's quite my cup of tea. I may try the belly dance class out next.

After Zumba I went to do my regular lap swim, and as I finished I had the worst calf cramp I've had in years (it still hurts a bit today.) I think the zumba and the swimming left me a little dehydrated and caused the cramping.

I walked home after, and my Spark fitness thingie said I did almost 1200 calories in exercise. I find that hard to believe. I bet it's closer to 800.

I stopped by Target after work and picked up a couple tank tops and another pair of capris for yoga. I had a nice leisurely half hour walk home, and that will be it for today. I figured I should probably take it easy after last night's extra long workout.

Looking forward to my next yoga class. :)

Wow, you are so really active. Congratulations.
I've done nothing all month except for walking and a couple of yoga classes.
Keep up the good work.

Did my first ever yoga class tonight: 90 minutes of every muscle screaming, sweat pouring off me. I thought I would give up, but the instructor was great, he suggested modifications for less advanced students, and I managed to make it through. Had a little swim afterwards to cool down.

I feel flexibility in areas that were mostly seized up before: my hips and back. This yoga thing is good.

@Kricket, I bet her class was either the vinyasa class or it is an Ashtanga teacher. That is WORK!

Hey, I took my first ever yoga class last Sunday and I really liked it. But, it was nothing like you describe. It was pure relaxation.

I love my yoga class - I barely make it home, I'm so limp and relaxed.

Much better

Sunday, September 12, 2010

First off, thanks to all of you for being so supportive. I really needed it, and you guys were there for me. You are much appreciated.

Last night I went to my friend T's birthday party, and managed to keep it together: I sampled a little of the snack crackers and cheese, and I logged everything. I drank half a glass of red wine. I ate a normal portion for dinner, and selected the lower calorie options. I DID have a piece of chocolate cake, but I reduced it to a sliver, AND logged it.

In addition, they have a pool, so I brought my bathing suit and had fun swimming for half an hour.

It was a great, sane evening with friends, and we all had a really good time.

Off for a small walk to the store now to pick up allergy meds. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. I plan to watch football shortly. :)

Do you do football watching without munchies? From what I hear that's part of it...
Excuse my ignorance; I've never watched a football game in my life.
Be good and enjoy the game.
