New Plan

Monday, December 30, 2013

I decided to change my routine. Pilates on Thursday and Yoga on Monday wasn't very much cardio. I have an elliptical on my porch, but don't seem to have the energy to really get on it now that school has started.
For the cost of my weekly Pilates class, I can buy a fitness membership at the Holiday Inn. This will let me swim every day after school. My son is running track and doesn't need to be picked up until 530...So my Christmas present for the family was a fitness membership. Maybe my husband will even take up swimming on his lunch hour, too.
I have decided to not focus on the food tracker. For the most part all it does is give me justification for extra snacking. I am just going to concentrate on getting the 30-60 minute of swimming each school day and see if the weight starts to come down.

Fall- A Time to Reflect and Renew

Saturday, November 09, 2013

As a teacher, Fall has always been an exciting time for me. A new set of students, a new schedule, a new year. This Fall, I found both a Pilates and a yoga class weekly. I have dabbled in both and have always done at least one weekly. I am really enjoying the Monday yoga, Thursday Pilates routine.
Last Christmas, I joined Weight Watchers online. I thought it would give me a new perspective and help get me off the plateau I was on...Well, I am happy to report I did lose 8 pounds. But I found the community support lacking in their online site and the advertisements for things to buy much worse than here...and there is a monthly fee.
So I have decided to come back to old friends on Spark People and lose the rest of my weight here...

September Goals

Saturday, September 01, 2012

This has been a long summer for me. Between a trip to South Dakota with my daughter the beginning of July, surgery the end of July and aspirin desensitization the end of August, I haven't had much free time in the summer.
My goals in September are:
Good habits to continue when I go back to work:
Continue going to the gym Monday, Wednesday, Friday evenings
Do weight training and cardio there
Eat 4 servings of vegetables a day.
Eat 4 servings of fruit a day.
Bad habits to try to get rid of:
Eating baked goods, pasta, etc. too much
Eating too much dairy.

Diet Guidelines for Busy People

Thursday, January 19, 2012

I was given this 2 page article from my acupuncturist. Thought I'd share it's main points for anyone interested.
Food- minimize pork, white and refined sugar products, artificial sweeteners and white flour products.
Drink- Minimize sodas and cow's milk.
Breakfast- 1 or 2 eggs (2 or 3 times a week) Skip traditional orange juice it conatins too much acid and sugar.
Eat as much fresh fruit as you can between meals. Avoid breads and cereals.
Eat most of your calories in the morning. Try to eat very little after 3 pm.
Avoid microwaving food.
Drinks- Drink between 4-8 glasses of water a day.
Snacks- Try to use fresh fruit only
Cholesterol- Stress and lack of exercise are two of the major guidelines can help you maintain a normal cholesterol level.
Lunch should be your main protein meal. Eat fast food only in emergencies and try to avoid the deep fried foods. If you crave seeds, eat fresh fruit or unsulphured dried fruits.
Dinner- The evening meal should be mostly vegetables. If you don't know what to do to get a variety of vegetables to make a meal, try a German cookbook.

By following these guidelines, your skin will start looking healthier and you will lose your excess weight without going on a harmful diet.

Finally some success

Saturday, January 07, 2012

I found a website that suggested you eat a half of a grapefruit before each meal to help with weight loss. That sounded like a good idea, so I tried it. It did seem to work. I lost 5 pounds this week. The website says to not use the idea for more than 3 weeks...I guess your body gets used to the lower calories and weight loss stops. So I am going to try to keep doing it for the 3 weeks.
Was able to get to the track and walk most days this week. I will try to get there more often next week. I am trying to get 7 miles a week in or an average of one mile/day. My thought is to increase that each month until I am at 10 miles/week...I am hoping come Spring I can start adding some running in to the equation.

You might try incorporating that in with some of the meal plans here. It's about a healthy balance, not just eating grapefruit.
