What got me up and exercising today

Saturday, August 07, 2010

I had decided that I really didn't want to exercise today. It's Saturday, it's August, it's summer, it's...I just didn't want to. But then I thought, if I don't I'm letting down my Team that I just joined the Official 10-Minute Daily Exercise Streak Challenge.

So up I got put on my exercise clothes, and shoes. I got out my mini-stepper and off I went and then I did my stretching. So here I sit all sweaty writing my blog, what keeps me motivated is the commitments I make not only to myself but to my team mates. If my commitments to myself doesn't keep going, it is good to know that my commitments to my fellow team mates does get me up and moving.

Slowest Loser

Friday, August 06, 2010

I was just reading the Slowest Loser blog for the week about how Wall Street(big business) is making us fat and of course more in debt. At the end he asked how do you keep yourself from wanting and buying more.

Well for one thing money, or the lack there of. Mostly those my big longing is usually for books, so library sales, yards sales, Walmart, and occasional splurges.

But to point of this, recently Arby has been advertising a banana split in cup shake, this sounded good to me. I didn't go and buy one but I did make a smoothie with this idea. I already make a protein smoothie with chocolate(cocoa, and sugar-free chocolate syrup), and frozen bananas, yogurt, and a little skim milk. So I added a few frozen strawberries to this, and it did remind of banana split. You know the taste from when you were a kid or adult when no one looking of sipping the last of your melted banana split. So if you have been seeing the ad for a banana split in cup shake and wanting to try it, try this instead.

That sounds really good and thankyou for sharing.OMG,do you have a book store that gives you credits for bringing in books and then you use the credits to buy different used books? We do and it's a great idea. Our local thrift stores have tons of books and they have them organized by category. The best prices I have found on books is yard, estate, garage, and church sales.I have bought hardback books for .25cents.Our oldest daughter has ordered her College books for fall quarter at they have used and new books for emoticonprices. emoticonDiana emoticon emoticon

    That smoothie sounds good!

I am a book lover too; I buy used as much as I can, and I loved used book sales; our town has a couple of big sales twice a year, next one will be Labor Day weekend for the library. There are few authors though that I will "splurge" and buy a brand new book; Philippa Gregory is one of them; just ordered The Red Queen from

Boy did I blow it

Tuesday, August 03, 2010

Recently in one the threads there was a question about what causes you to overeat or go off track. People listed things like stress, late night eating, family occasions... I kept saying while I was reading, I no longer did that or that or that; and I was feeling pretty good about it. Hubris, the gods will put you in your place. Usually flat on you butt in the mud.

I exercised like normally do and then went off to the store. As I was getting on the bus the driver had to put hand out to stabilize me, I had not had that happen in while but I really didn't think anything of it. As I was walking through the store my leg started to act up along with my back. I found a bench, I know where they all are, and rested for a bit. When back to the shopping, had to rest again, very unusual for me. The third time I had to rest the pain was getting worse instead of easy up. I decided to get what I just had to have a get home. Unfortunately one of my trips was down the frozen food section. The chocolate ice cream with fudge just leaped out and attacked me. When I got home took something for the pain and payed the ice cream back by attacking the ice cream back. When I was done attacking, it was an empty shell of itself. I would like to say it was pint, but I won't lie. Ugh, and double ugh.

Tomorrow though is another day and I will return to the straight and narrow and listen a bit harder to leg, I will not ignore and just hope it will goes away. Which is usually what I do.

By the way I'm seeing a doctor for it. I broke by femur two years ago and it still hasn't healed. I'm using a bone growth stimulator and there is improvement in it, but obviously not as much as I would like.

emoticonIf you're going to throw yourself at a carton of ice cream, have the decency to enjoy it, woman!

We all have our bad times -- trust me on that one! Keep it up, stay upright and healthy, and reach out to us for help when needed! (Heck, even when you don't need it.)

First off, it's a new day and it's going to be a better one! emoticon

Oh Trish, I'm so sorry your leg was causing you so much pain. You have been doing so well getting around and exercising and I can see why the pain and the difficulty walking would have caused you tremendous stress. I'm glad you are getting in to see the doctor and my thoughts are with you. emoticon

Yesterday was a bad food day for me as well. I just ate too much of the wrong things. My poor choices were not stress related but due to poor planning. I took my son to Six Flags and usually I pack a lunch in the cooler and we eat at the car. Then I just buy him an ice cream or something at the park later and I'm fine. Well yesterday, I didn't get up in time to pull together a lunch and I told myself it was a pain to trudge back to the car and eat lunch so we'd just pick up something at the park. BIG MISTAKE! It cost $36 for two hamburgers, fries, and drinks. I just ate the burger patty and threw away the bun but because I still starving I also ate the fries. This would have been forgivable due to all the walking but then before we left, Nick wanted an ice cream and I one for myself as well. Then by the time we got back to town it was 7:00 PM and I had nothing prepared for dinner so I picked up Panda Express and while I tried to stick with better choices. It had a ton of sodium and I ate way too much of it. emoticon I also ate poorly at a picnic on Sunday. So today, I looked at the scale this morning and it was not good. I know I didn't actually gain 6 pounds since Saturday and there's some water weight. I can tell by my rings, but I will be playing catch up all week to try and get that back off instead of losing new weight. DUMB ME! I never learn.

So let's start fresh again today and make the rest of the week better. That's all we can do and we CAN do it.

I think most of us have done it, Trish. My weakness is Haagen Daz and once I start I can't stop until it's empty. Sometimes I wonder if they don't put something in it to make us want more and more. That sure would explain a lot! Today will be a better day. Sorry to hear about your leg. I hope they can get it healed to a point where it stops being so painful.

Raspberry Ice Tea

Friday, July 23, 2010

Since I tried raspberry iced tea many years ago I've loved it. I truly hate to think about the about of calories in, since it never requires sweeteners. I missed it when I changed my eating habits, I had even give up Zero Coke in for water, green tea, and herb tea. One day last month I was stand in the store looking at the tea and a light bulb went off in my head; raspberry zinger and green tea together might be a good sub for my beloved raspberry tea.

Of course, I bought the raspberry zinger and tried it that night. I drink out of huge mug(helps getting in those glasses of water you need), so I tried it and it worked. After trying it various ways, I found for my taste that for 6 cups of water(which is what my mug holds) I use two green tea bag and one raspberry zinger bag plus two packets of equal sweetener. If your a lover of raspberry tea you should try this. Of course now I'm trying the other zingers in similar mixes. I really like the lemon zinger and green tea mixed.

Oh I shared a recipe for chicken salad with apple and lime, it is very tasty, try it. It also works well with grapes, I use about cup and half of grapes when I use them, I didn't state this at the end of the recipe because it was factored in the calorie count.

That ice tea sounds good! I can't tolerate Equal though so I will use Splenda or stevia instead.

I love grapes in chicken salad, sometimes I add them to mine.
