I have a recovery blog that is all about brokenness and recovery. I am blogging about the HALT model of things that can halt recovery. I thought some of my spark friends might be interested in these comments on hunger.

I do we'll for a few days and then BAM! Old habits come back. I am not really sure hoe to tackle this. I will try journaling my thoughts and feelings to see if I can figure out why I do this.

    I like the journaling idea but I also like the sticker idea. Why not do both? You can do it!!!!

    Try a calendar streak? I'm putting stickers on my calendar when I stay on plan.. I do NOT like the look of the sticker free days.. lol

It was one of those Thanksgivings that smacks you upside the head and makes you remember your priorities. I got a phone call from my daughter. I didn't think too much of it. I figured she was probably going to tell me that she would be late, but it was kind of surprising that she was letting me know several hours before we were supposed to get together.

But this wasn't just another "running late" call. My daughter was standing across the street watching the apartment building she had lived in burn to the ground. She had awoken to the smoke alarm and made it out of the building with nothing but the clothes on her back, her cell phone and her purse. A neighbor (also a fireman) that came over because he saw smoke met her at the door and, bless him, grabbed my granddaughter's bike. Because Jessica had worked late the night before (she has a full time day job plus works as a bartender part-time AND goes to college), Jalyssa was spending the night with the babysitter. Already, so much to be thankful for. There are five apartments in that building. Everybody lost all their "stuff," but nobody was hurt. Five families that didn't lose their mothers, fathers, or children. And my four-year old granddaughter was spared exiting the smoke-filled apartment in a panic.

But the response of the community has just been fantastic. She is staying with her babysitter, the local car dealer made her a set of keys for her car with no charge, the furniture store donated a couch and bed. There have been so many private donations of money, clothing, furniture, that I haven't been able to keep track. Of course, Jessica is a bit in shock, but it is comforting to know that she is being taken care of.

So, on this Black Friday, give your children an extra hug and take a moment to relax and enjoy them.

    The kindness just keeps coming and so far my daughter is doing very well. I am so proud of her, she is looking out for the other families now because she feels that she ahs all she needs.

    Wow, how shocking, and devasting for your daughter and everyone involved, and you. What a great blessing your daughter and grandaughter are safe and that no one was hurt or worse. So much to be thankful for for you and your family, and how heart warming that the community is reaching out to help the victims of the fire.

    It is really horrible that your DD lost all of her things but such a use blessing the she and your granddaughter are safe!!! That is indeed something to be most grateful for!!!

    How devastating in the material realm . . . but still earth shaking as to how it affects one's life and psyche. Hope the help continues and that your daughter is able to get on her feet again without too much disruption. Thankful indeed that the value of life and family are preserved.

Thank you Teddy Bears for your kindness on my day in the spotlight. The encouragement came at the absolutely perfect time for me! emoticon

As some of you already know, I have situational depression. Basically that means I was in a tough situation a while back, didn't handle it well and let it drag on for far too long. Recovery is coming slowly but surely and I know that I will overcome this challenge with God's help and the support of loving friends.

I had a brief cold/flu bug that really sapped my energy and I am struggling to get it back. I met with a close friend/nutritional coach today and started a new eating program. I will be eating healthy, mostly pre-packaged foods. I am excited about using this program as a jump start and then gradually transitioning back to making my own food. Based on her advice, I am not pushing the exercise for about a week. I expect this to pay off once the healthier meals kick in. So, please forgive me for those missing exercise minutes until my body gets revved up and ready to go . I will continue to log food even with the pre made meals because IMHO this is an important part of managing our wellness.

My goal is to recover physical, spiritual, emotional, financial well-being over the next 7 months as I prepare for a major transition. I am trying to build a future that will leave me free to put my desk job behind me and fulfill my calling in life. It is an exciting time! And it starts with recovering the physical energy to keep this body going!

    It's amazing what implementing just one healthy habit at a time will lead to. Before you know it, you have the incentive to put your faith in the right people and reach unbelievable heights! Here's a toast de-alcoholized champagne) to good health in being able to successfully implement a few of these great changes.
