Final Decision Sorta

Monday, December 03, 2012

After encouraging others to Do Hard Things, equating long run training to Having a Marathon Baby and even considering whether or not I Am Ready it's almost time to make a decision about whether or not I'm cut out for the full 26.2 miles of joy or if I should stick with my Pikirmi.

I have already plotted my mileage and races for 2013 (hush) and realized that none of my races were a distance that I hadn't done before. I'm fond of saying that your goals should scare you just a little bit, or they aren't quite high enough goals. I can't go an entire year playing it safe.

I have planned my training and I think I can do it. It will be humbling to have to s.l.o.w back down after pushing myself to run faster and faster this last year or so. But I think it will be good for me. It also seems to fit in. I've done an Oly Tri in a little over 3 hours. I want to do a 70.3 in 2014 and anticipate that to take 7 hours or more. If I throw a Marathon in there in around 5 hours, it will be a good stepping stone on the endurance highway. Right?

My Master Plan

Thanks to NoMeatAthlete and his Marathon Road Map, I have a great training plan. I can register on December 8th. Which is this Saturday. And training will start December 30th.

Okay, I think I'm sufficiently scared now.

Eep!

You are right about making goals a little scary. It does get you farther down the road.
2013 is yours!

Fall Sticks Around

Sunday, December 02, 2012

The first day of winter isn't until December 21st. Nebraska has taken it to heart. It was 65 degrees when we came home from church. My little blue Trek couldn't stand another moment indoors.

Another "thumbs up" pose! I only rode a few miles outside of the city to get these fantastic shots. I last rode this stretch of highway when it was much hotter...I like this better. :) I went very slow and still coughed a little, but the time on the bike was the most important thing.

I went home from my ride and hubby left for his run. It sure will be nice when the kids are a tiny bit older and we can do some of our runs and rides together. The time training together would be great!

I was honored to be invited to a CHRISTmas celebration at my BFF's church. She's so good about inviting me to things and making sure we get together. She's my oldest and dearest friend and I don't tell her enough how wonderful she is.

The celebration included worship music, which I just love! It was by listing to K-Love and Air1 that I really heard God's word before I even owned a Bible. We have great music at our church, but being a Mom I don't always get to sing *ahem* uninterrupted. :)

There was, of course, amazing food as well! I was practicing extreme restraint, so don't laugh at my plate. I tried to focus on my time with my dear friend and the presentation. The ladies of the church each decorate a table. It was so fancy, I felt like a princess at a Royal Dinner.

I drove home afterward feeling enormously blessed. While I wish that I'd had more time with my husband, I feel blessed to have friends. You know you haven't seen your hubby enough when you start yapping about something and he's lost...you think you were talking to him about an idea earlier, but it was someone else. Eeep!

Have a super week, and be nice to yourself!

Good for you to get out on the Trek. I just bought a new Trek and can;t wait for warmer weather now. I may have to take a vacation south just so I can get some good miles in.

Sisterhood and Running Joy

Saturday, December 01, 2012

My day started out so wonderfully.

Well, wonderfully early anyhow. It seems after a week of basically being inert, my body decided that it didn't need any more rest! I couldn't fall asleep until about 12 and was up and at 'em before 6. :) Who needs sleep?

My sweet friend, Diana's, bridal shower was today. Thanks to some hardworking ladies, I was able to go and enjoy the festivities, snap pictures and be supportive without any work. Since I have known her, Diana has been such a blessing to me. She is an inspiration to strong, intelligent, hard working women everywhere and I look up to her and respect her very much. I pray that my daughters will be as successful as she!

My sister and I.
She will be soon married. And in May she will graduate and move back to Kenya. I pray for her. I pray for her husband to be, for her future children and for all the wonderful things that I have to be hers.

I'm so happy to be a part of the age of technology. I can stay in touch with her through the years and see what she's like after she's an old married lady like me.

What an immense blessing!

After the girly-girl thing at the shower, I came home and went for a...do I dare say it...oh yes, Virginia, I went FOR A RUN! My legs were so excited, they just wanted to sprint to the music. With every foot fall, my body was so happy to be out in the foggy, mild, December air. I had to hold myself back from just going all out and coughing like crazy. My lungs were not impressed with my legs love of the sport, today. As an ex-smoker, I'm used to that.

Thumbs up for a grrrrr-eat run!

Up close, just in case you didn't' get it the first time.

Ha, ha, HAAAA! You KNOW I love a good run!

I would say that I'm done being silly - but I try not to lie. Thinking about a swim or a bike ride tomorrow...and clearly some porch painting and board replacement. Note to self - take pix elsewhere... Have a great Sunday!

On the Mend

Friday, November 30, 2012

Phew! Baby, I think I might be coming back.

I haven't had a good bout of bronchitis in a long time. Years maybe! I started coughing at the gym last week on Thursday. My swim on Saturday was full of sputtering and gagging and by Sunday I was down and out. I spent the week trying to do the barest minimum to ensure the survival of the children and relied on my husband as soon as he walked in the door from work.

The up side to being so sick is that I got more rest in the last 5 days than I probably have had in the previous 5 months. I went to bed as soon as I could in the evenings and only moved from the couch to change a diaper, fix/serve a meal (used the crock-pot a lot) or break up a fight. I laid on the floor of the toy room a lot, "participating" in the daily play. Unfortunately, my Kindergarten child did not get through her assignments this week.

Today I feel about 50% better. I even did my hair and makeup. We got through the reading lesson and the Bible lesson and I'm going to try to get her to do her math after lunch. It's so hard to get them back to a routine once you pause for a few days.

I'm sure that an entire week of not working out has done me some good. I really can't recall that last time I went a 7 day stretch without even taking a walk. Of course I did what any clinically insane person would do and immediately stepped on the scale this morning. Ugh. Ouch. Doh. Pooh. Up 3 pounds. I'm sure it's fluid retention from all the hot tea and water I've been pushing, a bit of sluggish tummy from a steady diet of carbs and narry a vegetable or fruit in sight, and the lack of movement. Did I really gain 3 pounds in a week? Probably not.

I'm hoping to try a slow run or ride tomorrow. If the weather is nice, outside in the fresh air. I've considered walking some to ease back into things. I was really sick and I don't want a relapse! I'm already planning my attack for the month of December. I'm not one to pass up too many goodies this time of year, so I'll need to burn some extra calories to compensate.

The best part so far is that my family has been spared for the most part. David has been coughing and sniffling, but insists that he feels okay. I get 10 shades of guilty when I'm sick, glad that I don't have to add "Infecting the Family and Friends" to the list.

Plans to decorate for Christmas this weekend and a bridal shower to attend. Also, stay tuned for another video from me. This time, I will explain the joys of the indoor bicycle trainer. Looking forward to that! :)

What's Up Monday

Monday, November 26, 2012

I'm whining today. Not to be confused with "winning."

I have a bad chest cold and can't workout.

So...what does a girl do when she can't train?

Yep. I do my nails. I even put on acrylics...haven't done that in almost 20 years. Apparently, I painted these at 2:22pm by the look of my watch. :) I did Susan's as well, and Kyler wanted his little hand in the picture too.

I made sure to have my green (looks purple with blueberries!) smoothie this morning. Between all the vitamins and moisture, I should be well by tomorrow. We hit the library after work and Miss A said that I was easy to find - she just waited a sec til I coughed and could locate me.

A stop at CVS to fill my medical needs rounded out the day.

Chocolate and nailpolish also. Hey, I'm sick. I get what a want. And they were $1.99. ;o)
