Weekly Weigh-In 12.02.2012 (The Good News is.....)

Sunday, December 02, 2012

** Note: My weigh-ins are usually on Saturday, but I forgot to weigh myself before eating breakfast yesterday. So today......(Warning, this blog contains a lot of exclamation points)**

I finally broke the 212.x/214.x holding pattern!!!

Goal: 195.0@15%
Last Week (11.24): 214.6@24%
This Week: (12.02):215.2@24%
(+0.6 pounds)

For the next 4 weeks my goal is to go below 210 by the end of the year.

I've decided to approach this two ways:
- Eat out as little as possible
- fast from chocolate and junk food

I'm not being religiously restrictive about this. I'm simply tired of waking up dehydrated every morning from all of the salt and then feeding an all day sugar crash. I basically want to detox from my usual habits. I want to have the energy I had 6 months ago. I will deal with a weekend of early afternoon sugar crashes to get there.

209.x by the end of the year. Hello, HELLO118. I'm going back to the challenge. Sorry for being absent this week.

TD Out!!!

That's the Spirit!!! (note the exclamation points :) Way to Go! Glad to hear that you are back at it! A note on the junk food - I've found that I can include an occasional one ounce bag of baked chips in my diet and still stay within my daily calorie goal. The baked chips have half the calories of the regular oil fried ones. It took a little while for my taste buds to adjust to the change in taste but now I enjoy them and it satisfies my salt/crunch cravings. Go for it!

Whatever happened to your eating more F&V goal?
I really think that would help you a lot.
Even pick one you like- say apples, and eat 3-4 a day?
Give it a try.

I love the idea of a Detox! Want to try one together? Dr. Oz has a three day one that I really want to try but have been afraid to do on my own. Here's the link that you can copy and paste into your browser.

Let me know if you want to try this. I would love to!

Anyway, my goal by the end of the year is 145. Let's do this!!! emoticon

Weekly Weigh-In 11.24.2012 (and again.....)

Sunday, November 25, 2012

So as has been the case for the past few months (OK years). I've reached a certain 2 pound weight range and a gain is inevitably followed by a near equal loss and vice-versa.

The numbers:
Goal: 195.0@15%
Last Week: (11.17): 212.0@25%
This Week: (11.24): 214.6@24%

(+2.6) This is soooooo different from the 3.4 pounds I lost last week and the 2.4 pounds I gained the one before that and .... well, you get the drift.

I did some heavy workouts and now am sick.

This is pathetic. Really pathetic.

If exercising makes me sick and eating more vegetables and less junkfood makes me gain weight.... really why bother?

This isn't even annoying anymore. It's just an endless boring cliche.

I've joined a team challenge that is to lose 5 pounds by the end of the year. I wonder how I'm going to do.

The method to my madness is as follows
- Exercise upper and lower body rotationally (This will make me sick and sore)
- Continue to taper my junkfood calories (down to about 1200 calories a day now. This will end up doing nothing to help my weight loss)
- My motivation is for my clothes to fit better (when they don't at the end of the year, this will make me disappointed)

Psychic prediction: I will weigh the same 212.0 pounds on January 1 as I did last week. I'll even bet on the .0 at the end. *yawn*

**For those who might say that I'm being negative. This has been my life for almost four d*mn years now. I have the blogs to prove it.**

Really bored by the monotony of trying to get healthier by eating better and living healthier and getting fatter and sicker. This is stupid.

- TD Out.

I'm praying for you homie! I know you can do it! I agree with the upping of calories and trying to cut the junk for just one day or one week. Treat it as an experiment. Are you drinking enough water? My problem was stress and as soon as it disappeared aka went to jail the weight came off.
Love you!

Oh I really DO sympathise **SI-I-IGH*

It's so disappointing and so hard to keep going at it in the face of so much disappointment. I admire you for sticking at it and not giving in - irritated with it all is a lot more positive than caving in which, I'm afraid, is more or less what I've done for the moment - not proud of that.

There is good advice here from people more positive than I am at the moment and I hope it helps you. All I can offer is empathy - but I do so wholeheartedly.

Just know that I'm thinking of you and hopefully we can re-connect in better circumstances. emoticon emoticon

Honey, I have the same problem as you. emoticon
A question for you:
Are you having enough cals? At one point I decided to raise the cals. to try to increase fat burning, if it isn't enough your body will stop burning fat, and I'm afraid this is also happening to you.
Or maybe you're as perfect as it can be, already.
And you haven't noticed yet, but Mother Nature has!!

After reading your blog, I can totally get why you are so very frustrated. It's like you just can't get a break. I will have to read your other blogs to see how you are sick (stomach, colds??) ...that just doesn't make sense. I can see how determined you are!

    Two Thoughts:
1. Muscle is heavier than fat. Is it possible that with your workouts you are gaining muscle and losing fat? That kind of progress wouldn't show up on the scale but might be seen in waist and arm measurements. Maybe you're making more progress than you are giving yourself credit for.
2. I was stuck for a long time too. I was doing almost everything right but not quite enough to see success. One additional small change tipped the scale for me and I started seeing progress. You obviously love junk food (who doesn't!!!) but 1200 calories of junk food per day is a lot. That might be what's holding you back from your goal. Could you go "cold turkey" for one week - cut out all the junk food - and see if that starts you on the path to success.
I weigh almost exactly what you do and I want to get to 210 by the end of the year. It would be great to make it. Let's see if we can do it.

I so understand where you are coming from. It's the space I was in when I gave up... so from someone who did, I ask that you please don't. Not that you were going to, but a gentle reminder from one Sparker to another.

I think (well, at least for me) when we have mastered X, Y or Z everything going into homeostasis. You lift weights? Great... now you have to do that much more to see 1/4 of the progress.

I am working on being happy where I am in the moment, but I tell you that's the biggest challenge of all.

Hang in there. We are here for you.

Is it possible that you've become a victim to the scale? I notice that when I cycle as such that I begin to focus on the scale even more.

"My motivation is for my clothes to fit better"
Let's focus on this for a change. Pick out a pair of pants that are snug or just downright tight. Focus on those pants fitting you instead of the scale.

Willa have a V-50

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

When you break down my diet, there are two basic problems
* I don't eat any vegetables
* I eat massive amounts of chocolate and junk snacks

Since last week, I've been tapering the junk food (had a couple of off days, but will start tracking again today)

As far as vegetables go, when I say I don't eat any vegetables I am not exaggerating. I've gone years without eating any. Fruits? Lean proteins? Dairy and skim milk? Sure. Vegetables not so much. I will literally buy only 3 servings of vegetables that would last a week and will end up throwing all 3 out (usually a bag of spinach)

So I've been toying with an idea for a quarter by quarter new years resolution regarding this.

Then I thought, "Why wait?"

So last week ,with 50 days left this year, I decided to set a goal to eat 50 vegetables by 2013. I am rewarding myself with $1.00 for each vegetable (along with 25c per fruit). I limit those rewards to 3 veggies per day and 4 fruits. I'm not looking for big numbers, I'm looking for consistency.

So far it's going well. I've been frying onions and peppers, mixing with brown rice or red meat and been bringing a serving of celery to work with me each day. I'm down to 37 servings. We'll see how it goes.

If it works, I will set increasing quarterly goals over the next few years, until I'm up to 3-5 per day.

    Do you dislike most vegetables?
Can you find 3-4 that are at least ok and make them a habit and then try new ones?
I agree w/the poster that said preparation is key- I used to hate Brussels sprouts until I got turned on to oven roasting them- I used to boil them until they got stinky.

I got to a point this fall where I could not eat another salad. I ended up throwing away a lot of produce. My former coworker of mine is a big fan of smoothies. He mixes up fruits and vegetables in a juice machine and then just drinks them. Have you ever tried putting fresh broccoli and cauliflower in a glass bowl with a little bit of water and microwaving for about 4 minutes. (Cover the bowl) Vegetables can be very good if prepared properly and a lot tastier than raw celery.

Weekly Weigh-In 11.17.2012 (Don't Get Me Wrong...)

Saturday, November 17, 2012

Goal: 195.0@15%
Last Week: (11.10): 215.4@24%
This Week: (11.17): 212.0@25%

-3.4 pounds
+1% BF (Scale always adds 1% when I lose. No clue why)

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy that I lost the weight and I know that the body fat percentage will correct itself.

At the same time, my weight 4 weeks ago was almost exactly the same (Yes, I do have the right to be frustrated by this. Being frustrated by this type of thing fuels me to do better. It allows me to figure out why).

I am optimistic that I am whittling down my junk food calories by 20-30 per day. Yesterday I ate 1280 (down from 1550). By the end of this week, I hope to be down to about 1150.

Veggies are going well too. I'll blog about my plan (*) to eat more

My short term goal is to be below 210 by the end of the month (December 1st weigh-in). Two pounds in two weeks is doable I think. I hope.

Your goals are almost identical to mine, except that you are slightly ahead of me. I want to be at 210 (short term goal by Dec. 31) and 194 final goal. I also had a slight set back during a work trip. So I've got to get from 214 to 210 by the end of the year. The holidays will be a challenge. If you're interested let's keep in touch and motivate each other to get there! Thanks for the motivation you have provided.

I have always loved vegetables, so it is hard to imagine NOT eating them for me.
Maybe every time you WANT a candy bar or some fritos, toss a dollar or a couple quarters in a jar. A reward for NOT actually eating them.. at the end of a month, see how rich you made yourself and buy something you want!! Hubs and I did it to quite smoking: went on a two week vacation!!

Trentís Up For the Count

Thursday, November 15, 2012

My eating overall is pretty good. 2-3 servings of low-fat dairy. Lean proteins. Getting two servings of fruits and vegetables is not a problem. I bring my lunch to work most mornings. Sure I eat out a few times a week, but my choices have been more sensible in recent years.

So why have I gained 15-20 pounds over the past 6 months? As I thought about it, it became clear. Two issues:
- I eat absolutely no vegetables to speak of.
- I snack on junk food all day at work (chips, candy, etc.)

The vegetables issue is straight forward. I need to eat more and Iím working on it. I will blog about it next week.

I had a real eye opener about 3 days ago. I decided to track my actual caloric intake of junk food. Just junk food. I assumed a large number, but had no idea.

1550 calories!! Again, just sugary and salty snacks.

So for the past couple of days, Iíve been trying to take in a few less calories each day. Today I finished at 1330. I will continue to try to go down 20-30 calories every day or so until Iím at the 500-600 calories a day. 2-4 ounces of dark chocolate is healthy and a small bag of chips every other day or so wonít kill me. High as 600 calories of junk sounds, that was what I was eating when I was below 200 pounds.

For now, we taper. So far so good. Weíll see how it goes.
