Breakfast- Overnight Oatmeal

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

I have decided that there are two reasons I do not eat breakfast:
I am not hungry in the am;
I am lazy in the am!

So I decided that tonight I will try to make the overnight cold oatmeal. Majority of the recipes I found are meant for a slow-cooker, but I do not have one so I will try the cold version.

I have oats, light soy milk, and some dried cranberries. (and cinnamon) I can add a banana in the morning as well.
If any of you have tried this and know of any good tricks, please share!

How did the oatmeal turn out? I looked up some recipes after reading your blog, but I've got the wrong kind of oats (instant).

I'm usually not a big breakfast person either (unless I get to sleep in late, which is rare these days). I usually try to make myself have at least 200 calories with my coffee. Lately that has been an english muffin with a little cream cheese or nut butter. Sometimes, just a couple pieces of fruit.

I eat a lot of organic oatmeal. Sometimes I just can't stand to look at another bowl of oatmeal. On my oatmeal I use a couple of loose teaspoons of brown sugar, some milk, fresh blueberries and 1/2 banana. Sometimes I will uses some chopped apples and walnuts on my oatmeal.

I also take a cup of orange juice and add some sparkling water, which stretches the OJ and satisfies my like of carbonated beverages.

Thanks, Bruce

I am lazy in the mornings as well. Cereal is the mainstay here.

There is the odd time that I will be ambitious and make banana muffins or some kind of porridge, but otherwise...Yep...I'll skip breakfast too.

As for ideas...Got nothing. Sorry

Almonds sound good- I was thinking of walnuts, but I think I will go with almonds instead. I will add them in the morning like you said for some crunch.
Thanks!

It is good. It's very European. I would add some almond slivers for some crunch and fat in the morning.

Anyone Know of a Good Lip Plumper/Line Eraser?

Tuesday, March 08, 2011

I know this is an odd question and blog, but I really need something for the lines around my mouth and can not afford to get injections (not that I want to).
So if any of you have used anything that really works, please let me know!
Thanks!

GET SOME GOOD VITAMIN B oil..(actually EMU oil is great but a little pricey) and use it morning and night. Take your vitamin B and fish oil regularly.
Whatever you use - do it religiously and you will see results.

Yahoo Finance on Weight in Women and the Work Place

Thursday, February 24, 2011

"If you're a skinny woman:
New York University sociologist Dalton Conley conducted a study and discovered that a woman's weight negatively impacts her household income and "job prestige." In fact, a 1% increase in body mass results in a 0.6 percentage point decrease in family income.

Another study by Jay Zagorsky titled "Health and Wealth" found that Caucasian women get the most financial slack for higher weight, seeing their wealth drop 12%. In comparison, African-American women who are overweight only see a 7% drop. Men weren't affected."

How sad is that? After my last interview I decided that I may not get the job because of how I look- the other women in the office (that I did see) were both really thin and gorgeous. It seemed to be the type of business where only the pretty would make it, I may have been correct! I do find the result between Caucasian and African-American women a bit interesting.
Though- I think the male v female result has been know for quite some time.

Is this another reason to lose weight?

I've always known this to be true. I grew up with my mom constantly telling me that "you must be thin and beautiful in order to be successful." She was only stating the fact but in my young mind, I interpreted that to mean that if I wasn't successful I must be fat and ugly which then created a huge amount of issues I had to work through. Even though that is the way society works, I wish they would do more newsworthy pieces on the importance of self acceptance and that beautiful is all perspective. If someone feels beautiful, they tend to act that way and get a better response than someone who thinks they are ugly.

I don't think my weight made a difference in my earning power. I know my drive and enthusiasm did! However, I received some very good advice about deportment and dress that worked for me!

I was first hired in my profession at my highest weight, 280+lbs!

It shouldn't have to be another reason to lose weight...

You have a beautiful smile and personality and I'm sure it shined right on strong today!

Oh boy... that's rough news for me. I'm short (5'2 - not even average) and overweight. I haven't been wearing much makeup and I've been dressing more casually lately (because nothing fits). I need to smile more (since I'm stressed all the time) and improve my posture. I really don't know where I fall on the attractive/symmetry scales.

Guess I better stick it out here, where I am now. emoticon

That is interesting. I have not really thought of that. I also think that your personality should shine through. I would think that that would also have an impact.

I also think that a person should lose weight for themselves and if you have a greater opportunity? If you think that is another reason? Then make that another goal for yourself and see.

In any case, I do hope that you get the job. You never know until that phone rings.

Take care.

Kettlebell Workout #1

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Holy cow. This was the hardest workout I have ever done in my life! I could barely do more than 5 reps of each exercise without feeling like I was going to pass out. I mean, this was seriously hard. I did realize that I truly need to work on my arm strength considering I couldnt life the thing over my head with my left arm. I guess I need to start at least using my left hand to hold the leash for my crazy dog...my right arm is SO much stronger.
Hopefully soon I will be able to do the workout in its entirety. the one bummer is that while my
HRM finally worked inside, it didnt actually track my calories.

Ps- if you have a dog and do this work out at home, watch out for the dog! He got pelted in the face with a 15lb kettlebell!!!!

Carla that's right- for some reason I was thinking we had the same.

I was first thinking 15 was too much, but 10 may have been too easy after a few tries.

I don't remember that we do. I have a Garmin FR60-pink of course, LOL. Mine came with the foot pod and the wireless transmitter to auto sync to the computer. I know mine will only track indoors (unless it's a really open area with tons of windows) with the foot pod on.

Hope your muscles are better tomorrow! I want to go buy a bigger one now. I should have never thought 5 pounds would have been enough!

And I was already sore from the day before! I guess I will double up the potassium tonight!
I think we have the same HRM Carla- but I dont have the footpod.

Ahh, kettle bells... Yeah, they can be brutal. I've been working with them for about 6 months now and still get walloped by them regularly.

    Aw, poor doggy!!

I have heard that the Kettlebell workouts are brutal. I'm pretty sure I remember Louisa saying she couldn't hardly move the next day.

My HRM works inside fine, but my particular watch only tracks calories and such inside if I have the foot pod on. I just know mine works just fine at the gym and in my house for tracking everything, including pace on the treadmill.

Great job trying your first work out. I am sure they will get easier!

I try to not get in trouble, but I don't succeed. If I'm not careful, I get in trouble with the scale, the better half, the kids, and HA HA, even the dogs.
