Been a Long Time...

Saturday, August 31, 2013

I just realized how long it has been since I have written a blog. I do not really have much to say, but figured I would write anyway:-)
Working a retail job to get by, school is almost full-time, trying to find a decent job, helping out my broken dog. Nothing fun! And I have no social life! So, really, I guess I should NOT be writing since I have nothing positive going on, but oh well.
The one good thing I have to say is that I get in between 3 and 5 miles of walking each day that I work, so that has added up some miles for the month. Thankfully! Because now that the dog is broken he isn't allowed to walk for more than 10 minutes per day (except for potty breaks) and I feel too guilty to go without him. (Sammy herniated a disk in his spine several months ago and seems that he will never fully recover).
I hope that all my Spark friends are doing well!
talk to you again soon!

KAILYNSTAR, I do have a job which is great, but knowing it will end in January is stressing me out! The store in which I work is closing down, I was actually hired on a temp basis, and the stress of still looking for another job is getting REALLY, REALLY old!
Trying to have positive energy, but it is hard!
Yes, Sammy has some seriously sad eyes these days! I just wish he would get better!

Ahh, your poor Sammy. I bet he just looks at you with some sad looking eyes.

As for not being positive. You're so wrong.

You have a job. You're getting somewhere with your schooling and you're even managing to get out and walk.

That's great!

I realize that you're probably tired. I'm sure I would be too.

Take care of yourself.

Thanks Looseitforgood! Yeah, it has been hard to take care of him, but the vet said that I have been doing a better job than most people that have had the same issues with their dogs, so that made me feel good!

You will make it further than a mile in no time! It is hard to do at first, but once you do you cant help but want to go further!

Good luck to you!

Sometimes we just need to vent on here, and its ok that you feel you had nothing positive to share. Walking 3-5 miles is fantastic and very positive!! emoticon I can barely make it 1 mile...but I am working on changing that!

I am so sorry to hear about your dog emoticon Dogs are family and I know it must be heartbreaking to see him like that. I am glad he has you to care for him.

Hang in there, Teresa and I look forward to reading more of your blogs!! emoticon

Checking In

Wednesday, February 01, 2012

Just a quick blog to check in...I haven't been blogging very often, but I know I should be!

Trying to find the energy to exercise even though my job physically exhausts me has been difficult, but I really need to be doing some extra work on my body. I know that exercise will also help with my depression and keep me from sleeping away the day when I have a day off. I also need to get back into the habit of walking my pup every day, the poor little guy suffers when my brain is feeling wacky. I have promised myself that I will do some yoga every day, even if just a couple of poses, so I am hoping that will keep me motivated!

I didn't get my 1000 exercise minutes in last month- but today the new month is starting and I MUST meet my goal! Plus, I turn 42 in a couple of weeks and would really like to start my year off right.

Hope all is well for those of you that read this!!!!

    You're still here! Yay!

I know it's hard to fit everything in a person's schedule, but you MUST walk your dog. emoticon

If anything, have longer and faster walks with your dog. That should help.

Have a great weekend that's coming up!

I'm looking forward to being able to exercise again when I get the dr's ok. You really do feel better. It is worth effort in your outlook and does make a difference with depression. Even if its just 15 minutes. Good luck. Soon spring will be upon us and we'll be able to get outside again.

I cant wait for daylight savings!!!!! I love the longer days!
I also just switched back to a different anti-depressant and I think that has been having a strange/negative reaction to me as well. Though I am almost a couple weeks in so I hope to be feeling better soon.

Welcome back - I was wondering what happened to you but have been so busy myself, haven't had time to check in with you. I think a lot of people go thru the 'blahs' right about this time of year - there's all the momentum and excitement from the holidays followed by New Year's and the associated energy but it wears off fast and the second half of January thru the month of February seem to lag. We'll have Daylight Savings Time in another month and that will give us new energy again. In the meantime, maybe we could get together to walk the dogs around Back Bay this weekend - let me know!

New Year, New Ticker, New Goals

Sunday, January 01, 2012

I have had my Spark 'ticker' set on a weight-loss goal for ages (years and years) and it never moves more than 2 lbs up or down. So, I have decided to start the year with my ticker set for fitness minutes rather than weight loss. I figure that if fitness is my goal, then I will have an easier time reaching my goal. All I have to do is get out there and walk, do yoga, anything physical at all.

I wish all of my Spark friends and family a wonderful new year!!!!
emoticon Let's go kick in the new year!

Me and My Muddy Butt

Monday, May 02, 2011

Woke this morning with some energy so I decided to use it by going on a hike.
I must say that Great Falls Park was gorgeous today! I have never seen the Potomac rush over the falls like it was today and it was really quite fascinating.
I parked my car a bit further up the river than Great Falls just because I didnt want to pay and wanted to walk along the river trail since I had not done that. Definitely worth it! The only problems: forgot tissues (duh...allergy season), forgot "doggie bags" (which was ok because I wouldnt have needed any), REALLY need new hiking boots (which I figured out half-way through), forgot bug repellent (and there were lots of strange creatures landing on me), and I took a pretty good fall in the mud.

This last part was actually humorous at the time...I had the dog leash in one hand and the water bottle in the other and just slipped and landed on my left hand and butt. Unfortunately I landed harder than I thought on my hand and now my wrist and elbow hurt, so does my left thigh and calf (not to mention my rear) so I must have twisted or something on my way down.

At least my dog was good- he is getting really great at going down rocks or whatever and then actually waiting for me. He also was kind enough to wait for me to pick myself up out of the mud! Unfortunately he did find some horse poop to roll around in for a second (and goose droppings as well) which is obviously not the best thing!

The only other bad part was that my HRM only picked up 60 minutes of my 90 minute hike. I did do the math to figure out my calorie burn, but that wont work for mileage considering there were rocks and detours and such that would be inaccurate mileage-wise. Since we will be doing some hiking in CO and UT this summer I want to be able to easily do a four mile hike and figured today would be a good day to see what my current distance is that I can do easily, but that didnt work out so well.
That is ok though- the day is gorgeous and it wasnt crowded...and oh the scents of spring in the air! And now Sammy (the dog) is sleeping away and I have washed the mud off of my body (and out of my hair) and will now be taking some Tylenol and potassium so that I do not become even more sore than I am!
And oh yeah, I realized while trying to step out of the shower that I forgot to stretch! Oops!

Check Out These Recipes!!!

Sunday, May 01, 2011

Ok, I have to put the link up for these recipes:
www.healthytippingpoint.com/recipes/
lunches-and-dinners

I had not been to this website before reading the Spark email today but, oh my goodness, I can not wait to make some of these!
I have already put a pot of brown rice on and made hummus (sort of) so that I can get started on some of them.
Thankfully I have some leftover tempeh in my freezer (plain tempeh is not my favorite- at all) because there is a sloppy Joe recipe that I can use it for. I also have some frozen egg whites that I can take out and use for a couple of the casseroles.
Looks like I will be eating healthy this week!
