P90X- Day 1 and Day 2

Saturday, March 14, 2009

So I finally did it. I sucked up my fear and popped in that first P90X DVD. Chest and back is the first workout. Man, that kicked my butt. I thought I was in pretty good shaped, minus the excess weight, but I was completely wrong. I admit that at first when I couldn't do one single military push up or a diamond push ups, I wanted to quit. I wanted to just send the 'stupid' dvds back. But as Tony kept saying, 'No saying I can't... replace with I currently am struggling with." This crept into my mind; I then told myself that it is good I can't do anything right now. It gives me something to aspire toward! So, all in all, I finished the workout the best that I could and put the rest away. Then came the ab ripper.... man once I can balance on my butt like that, I will be an ab machine! Ha... I couldn't really balance, so I was having a hard time. My biggest realization was that I am not as strong as I would like to be or should be for that matter. BUT! P90X is going to help me, no matter what.

Day 2- Plyometrics
Hardest cardio I have ever done and I was a competetive swimmer for 14 years. It was the mix of getting my heart rate up and giving my muscles a run for their money. Granted, I have had 3 knee surgeries and the high impact/low impact jumping wasn't entirely helping that, but I am getting stronger! I will be able to do more as the time progresses. It is only day 2. I have 88 left to go before I am ripped, ready and roaring to fight!

Ha.... so I guess my overall analysis is yes, I can barely move my body; yes, it hurts to even sit up because my ab hurts, but that is a sign I am changing. That is a sign that my body needs to change and this is going to happen. More P90X journey to come!

Retched Stepmother

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

I was your fairy-tale Cinderella. Growing up with two step sisters, a step mother, and add in a father and brother. But it was all a complete lie now that I look upon it today.

My stepmom, Sue, has an undiagnosed case of bipolar disorder. I am no psychologist, but I know enough about my own family history and depression and manic-depressives to make my own assumptions. Anywhos, there was always a high period, followed by a complete low period. In these low periods, Sue was extremely emotional abusive. Telling me I looked like a little boy, that because my mom was a lesbian I should not love or be around her... things like that. As a little girl, growing up half time between parents, who am I supposed to believe. Yes, I have animosty toward my parents, just as most other do; however, this is unforgiveable. I cannot forgive Sue for the thoughts that she put into my head.

I guess my point is that Sue is still doing this today. My dad and Sue are FINALLY getting a divorce after 12 horrible years. Who knows, maybe my dad was happy, but his children were not. Anywhos, she tells her lawyers that my brother and his dog are ruining my dad's house. (She gets half of a $500,000 house when the divorce is final. Greed anyone?) Therefore, my brother is forced to leave. She then procedes to tell her lawyers that my belongings are scattered throughout the house, making it look like a pigpen. Did I mention that she moved all my stuff out of my bedroom when she took over my room? She made the mess, I did not. I live in Madison, in my own apartment, with my own job and life. Why would I be making a mess at this house?! It is just extremely frustrating that now on my day off, I have to drive an hour and a half to clean the mess up that I did not make.

She is retched and I do not feel bad for calling her that. I did not know that such a horrible human being could be made; however I give her that title. I am sorry if anyone is offended by this, but I cannot begin to explain the damage that woman had done upon my family.

I'm sorry to hear about what a hard time you've had with your stepmother. It sounds like you'll all be better off with her cut out of your lives. My little sister is bipolar so I'm very familiar with that emotionally abusive streak you mentioned. To this day, I still think her mean comments about my weight growing up (when I was a bit on the chubby side and she was tiny) contributed towards my bouts of anorexia. I love my sister and she's doing better these days with the right medication (though she'll always be a little "off" I think) but you can't underestimate the damage her illness has done to the whole family. I'm sorry you have to spend your day off cleaning of after your stepmother, but perhaps it'll help give you the closure it sounds like you need. Good luck.

It is such a tragedy that impressionable children have to suffer through this stuff. And it takes a long time to come to terms with it. So sorry that you have to give up your day off. Thank heaven that your father is finally going to be free of her once the drama of the divorce is over. My prayers go with you.

New love of water!

Friday, March 06, 2009

So was driving in my car, had an empty cup in my cup holder. It was from a lemondae I had early from Panera.

I was extremely thirsty and had a bottle of water in the back. I decided to pour it into the cup so it would be easier to drive and drink (water that is!!!). The cup had a left over lemon inside. Lone and behold, I have found my new favorite drink. Water with lemon!

It adds a taste to the water that is satisfying and fills my sweet tooth! I now get well over my recommended 8 glasses of water! It is a big motivation booster because I am now drinking less soda and have quite a bit more energy! Yay for new discoveries!

Being Honest with Myself

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

So, I had a really bad weekend (eating and exercising wise.) But the thing that I realized is different is that I am ok with that. I had SO much fun this weekend, that when I sat down to enter in my calories for the weekend, it barely even phased me that I was over 3000 calories on Saturday. (Booze and pizza add up quickly!)

I mean I know that it cannot be a regular thing; however, I got back on track today (Monday). I ate 1,300 calories and ran 4 miles! I didn't let an awesome weekend get me off track because that exactly what it was: an awesome weekend! I have learned to just be honest. If I am honest with myself and my nurition tracker, I think that I will get a lot farther in my journey with my weight. I cannot put in that I didn't eat three pieces of pizza and just say I did one to feed my ego. I need to also be feeding my soul, and the number one way to do that is to be honest with what is going in my mouth and then allow myself to be ok with it. I had a great time, I will just chalk it up to that rather than a failure.
