Every morning I wake up with a new bite of some sort, almost all of them are on the right side of my body- so weird. They itch like mosquito bites, but are in places covered by the bedclothes. I toss & turn all night so they should be everywhere, right?
Haven't done any official exercise this week. The first 3 days I helped my mom set up her classroom, lots of shifting of furniture & boxes, putting things on shelves, dusting, etc. Less than exciting but necessary. Yesterday ANOTHER MRI for my knee, trying to find out what happened to it. It was healing so well, and then ... Oh well, I'll deal with that as it happens. After that, I did the grocery shopping & a few other errands, headed home to meet our handyman at the house. He was fixing a few things around the place that were in disrepair..and found a nest of what we think might be termites. UGH!! Just a gazillion ants & some flying things -- YEECH! I HATE insects! Creepy crawlies!
So that wasn't good to see, they'd eaten the wood frame around the garage door, I think the paint was holding it together.
I'm hoping to get some swimming in over the weekend. Today the RA is in full swing, very stiff and sore, plus low-grade fever. It was 99.8 when I woke up, so I'm going to take it easy today.
The cheese comment? I ate too much cheese last night - LOL - like a slice of each type I bought for my parents' sandwiches - yoiks! I'm a cheesehound, I especially liked the white cheddar horseradish! LOL So much for sound eating principles. Last eweekend I ate TWO SLICES of BIRTHDAY CAKE, Oy!
Oh well - moving forward!!! Good days to all!

The hotel well, motel, was a laugh. Clean, though, and safe & quiet & that's really what I ask for. At $55 it was a steal, and minutes from the doctor's offices.
I took plenty of pictures and will post some here when I get a chance. Walked a TON in "historic" Frederick, it wasn't at all what I expected. Much for ecclectic and a bit upscale here & there. Head shops next to the upscale dining establishment ... a shop devoted to selling Brit foods, spirits, and other sundries, day spas, tea rooms, outdoor goods (a hometown store & an Orvis), plus all the great architecture I could stand (lots of Victorian era houses - my favorite!)
Saturday my brother and his family are coming for a belated birthday celebration (his) and I've been asked to make my "famous" (in our family anyway) marinara sauce & meatballs. It takes me 2 days & besides the sauce has to rest for at least 24 hrs before it's really good anyway! I have whole wheat pasta for myself.
I'll be going back to Frederick MD on the 9th of Sept for my first infusion. I have to be there at 9AM - UUUUUGGG. It's a 2 hr drive (min!)
At present just trying to motivate myself to get started on the sauce. Also have to beat it over to the post office to mail something I sold on EBay (yaay, small amt of income!) Plus, swim class tonight - haven't been in forever, d0n't feel like going now -in spite of the big hoo-ha over M. Phelps. LOL I thought goggles filling w/pool water only happened to me - now I don't feel so bad.

Hey! I put the new battery in my iPod & it WORKS! LOL - AND I got my Otterbox (Better than the other waterproof case I had), I still need waterproof earphones & an armband. Then I'll be all set for my own tunes whilst swimming! No offense to anyone, but they blast country music at the pool in the mornings & I HATE country music!
I'm taking a "vacation" - I'm going to Frederick MD & staying overnight. Tomorrow is my initial visit with the rheumatologist working on the study for the new RA drug. It's 2 hrs from here & I'd have to fight my way through some DC traffic to get there .. so I decided to have a "vacation." Will leave a bit later this morning to get there w/time to see a couple of old house & gardens listed as "attractions."
Did great swimming on Sunday BTW. I think my kicking has really improved. I'm still slow, but definitelly making progress! Hoooraaay! Not much exercise yesterday, unless you count all the weeding I did.
Surgeon thinks I've damaged a ligament, but we're waiting one more week before doing anything -just because of my lack of insurance. I have not lateral stability, and not much front-back stability though I don't know what that's called. I wear my brace, but sometimes I still have probs. **SIGH** I'm weary of this whole thing.
Also the cough I developed after biking on Sat has decided to only come on at night. As the day develops, it goes away. We've been sleeping w/our windows open & I think it's the damp night air that does it. As long as it's gone before my appt tomorrow AM - or they might not accept me as a patient!
I'm going to get some swimming in at the hotel pool later today. Don't know what to do for food, I think I'll pack an ice chest. Cheaper that way! And healthier!

Watching the swimming has been a big help, especially when they show the underwater views. I can really see what the correct form is for each stroke. This will be gret when I swim tomorrow.
I bicycled today and HATED it. The bicycle seat was gawd-awful uncomfortable & chaffed, the handlebars/grips made my palms hurt, the angle of the handlebars made my wrists hurt & we haven't got a single flat surface anywhere around here. I was either moving at a turtle's pace (while also having a near heart attack trying to keep moving) going uphill, or wearing out the breaks to keep my speed down coming DOWNhill. And it aggravated my EIA (exercise induced asthma) and in spite of multiple hits on my rescue inhaler AND 2 neb treatments I'm still wheezing and coughing. OK, so I don't know that I can blame that directly on the bicycling - but I definitely don't care much for bicycling.
If there were more flat places to ride it would be better. But I live at the foot of mountains, there's not much flat space out here. So what do I do? Get a new & more comfy seat, buy padded gloves & appropriate britches, and just keep struggling along until I get fit enough to climb hills properly? It's a super nice bike, but ... I really didn't have a lot of fun. Still, I managed to get in 30 min -even if I only covered about 3.5-4 miles.
Also, it didn't hurt my knee - but the quad muscles all around the knee are complaining a bit!
Aaanndd, I didn't scarf out at dinner. Of course, it helped that my parents had eaten practically everything by the time I got showered & downstairs. LOL
I'm trying to work out a plan to go & stay somewhere for a couple of days. I got some more free hotel nights & could use a short vacation from home... But where to go?

First, swimming, then errands. I have a number of things to do today and I'm hoping to get them all accomplished before it gets beastly hot outside.
Have been doing well nutrition-wise, but not moving much. Now that I have my knee brace again I think I'll be out moving around a lot more - even bicycling! It's very cool in the AM and dry, so it's the perfect time for a bike ride. Just hoping the brace is going to be the answer to the knee pain. We'll see today & I'll edit my post tonight with the answer...
8/9/08-I'm just getting a chance to add to this post from yesterday! Time got away from me & before I knew it I was snoring in my bed!
I went to the pool, it took a lot of effort to drag my lazy bones out of the house, but I made it! And I swam for an hour. First doing kickboard, practicing my kicks, then backstroke, then crawl, some water treading, and then just general swimming about any old way.
After, I always hit the whirlpool and relax plus stretch a bit in the warm water.
It's getting much easier to kick properly and to swim more quickly from one end to the other. So my next goal is to swim out & back again (100yds or 100meters depending on how they have the lanes put out that day) without stopping for a minute or 2 in between. My thighs, quads, and glutes can feel the difference between swimming from the hips & kicking w/my knees. My KNEE certainly appreciates the difference!
Now ... to work on that consistency issue I have..
